happy new year
I’d like to see the net cast wider to include different scales and more stand alone rulesets for both historical, fantasy and sci-fi for all of which there is an abundance
I think it would be interesting to get a conversation probably on Skype with the guy from Tabletop Minions, in fact some video conversations with people who do various video gaming blogs would be pretty good
didn’t that fellow start here and fuck off?
Dunno. Must have been before my time
aye about 4 years ago, before Dawn and Gianna.
Ok So that idea probably won’t happen
never say never, I’ve no idea why he fucked off
We still chat with Adam 🙂
Would be great to get him on the show for a chinwag.
We’ll see if he fancies a spot on the weekender sometime
happy New Year everyone. it is an extra special new year. I become grandfather within a few months.
Maybe this is the 3 generation wargamer in the making.
thank you for a first fantastic year. on to the next fantastic year with you I’m sure??
Congratulations @postcardpaul!
Congratulations @postcardpaul, you
ll have a blast and make the most as the little buggers will run rings round you. Me and the misses have two more grandchildren due this year (Feb and Apr), to go with the seven we already have. So that
ll be 4 granddaughters and 5 grandsons, some if not all will learn of “Grumpy`s Hobby” and fingers crossed want to play. So, a Beast on the Wall?
soft focus; drunk focus
ehh, I’ve heard it both ways.
Random ideas :
– Return of the Hobby Lab with (cheap) small scale stuff for (war)gaming
– more vlogs/plogs detailing yet another epic table or army
– articles about upgrading boardgames
– a series similar to ‘FoW:For the win’ and ‘Bolt-Action’ that is aimed at getting the newbies started in this hobby as well as teaching experienced players new tricks. I’d suggest Age of Sigmar and Killteam for starters.
Also : winning the lottery … because this gaming addiction is expensive fun 😉
With Late War v4 FoW launching in June, I’d like more FoW FTW! 🙂
(Decided to hold off starting my FoW adventures until then)
+1 on the Hobby Lab. I always really enjoy those.
I didn’t catch all the weekenders or XLBS episodes last year, bit I did notice there seemed to be a lot less of Lloyd on them, always fun to see him pop up on a vlog. Desires for 2019, to pick up more models, play more games and be more productive with regards to building and painting.
But @warzan it is impossible for you two to look any more beautiful than you already do… mwah!
More scales, more historical stuff, maybe explore Sam Mustafa’s work (I am an armchair fan but like with most of my collection it’s hardly seen the fog of war!)
How about special guest appearances of backstagers on the weekender? (wink wink nod nod)
I hope 2019 brings more of the same with hopefully a sprinkle of Bootcamps, lets plays and tutorials.
All the best in 2019 team, Hopefully, I stick around for the ride!
maybe they can stream the webcam watching their shop and we can play ‘spot the beasty’ 😉
One thing I would like to see is some 40k let’s plays. Especially with some of the armies John has created over the past time, like the Prussonians for example.
Hey guys, so many great upgrades to the site in 2018 I am not sure how you’re going to better them. I would love to see another Hobby Boot Camp, maybe if you have the energy with the larger team a Friday to Monday event. I would love to see a push using the site to find more local hobby clubs and communities as well as a calendar focussed on tournaments and company event days/weekends. I haven’t seen Warren lick a mat in far too long, just seen the new Deep Cut feature ones and feel these would fit perfectly… Read more »
What questions do you wanna know from the team?
What board game stood out most to you in 2018? What card game stood out most to you in 2018? What tabletop miniatures game stood out most to you in 2018? What new foods did you try in 2018 and did you like or dislike them? What was your favourite event of 2018? What was the hardest part for you in the process of rebranding from BoW to OTT? Who inspired you in 2018? How you relax when your not making the hobbying world a better place? What was the best place you visited in 2018 and why? In your… Read more »
Welcome to the New Year. What I would like to see – I know this is a miniature focused site, IMHO, board games are far more approachable and easier to get to the table so I hope we see more board game playthroughs. Vault of Dragons seems interesting. – Many people are intimidated by RPGs, how about a series of getting started to having a one shot campaign. I would even love to see the BoW crew play My Little Pony RPG – BoW community war game. Perhaps an East vs West type of thing? Have a contest where everyone… Read more »

NEW YEAR
I think one of the things i’d Like to see is some “quick hit” video’s. What I mean is for select a topic such as painting miniatures. In about 5 to 10 minutes demonstrate a particular technique. I know some of this is covered in vlogs and i’d Like to see mor of those too but I would love a catalog of short video’s (ideally in the 5 minute range) that I can look at for a particular technique. This can be done for terrain as well. Table set up. Lighting. Etc.
This is my plan for painting guides in the future.
Solo games! Becoming more and more popular for many reasons. I play at a club but I still often play solo at home because I can play what I want, how I want. Also carrying a game like Shadows of Brimstone anywhere without a car is impossible.
More Lloyd terrain tutorials for a starter, coverage of smaller rule sets like some of the Osprey rules.
For me 2019 is a big year because Irregular Magazine is 10 years old in July. So we’re looking at trying to do something special for the Summer issue.
Happy new year folks I agree with @turbocooler and would like to see a few more board games covered. I would also love a few battle reports or maybe even a campaign of something. I know there are a Demo games and lets plays already on the site but what I am talking about is maybe a game all of you guys play and know well, be it Warhammer 40K, Saga, Bolt action. I love the banter on the weekenders and XLBS and I think this kind of thing would be great to see while playing a game. Maybe a… Read more »
I think it must be hard for the crew to find a middle ground as I would like to see less card and board games unless there from Avalon Hill or GMT and more what I shall call independent wargames rules and figues covered. But you will never be able to please everyone
100% agree
Off topic – behind Warren/over his head is that a lasgun pointed at the shop door? Is that how you guys deal with shoplifters in Ireland? ?
As for what I’d like to see from you guys, how about a Tale of Four Gamer’s type thing? And considering how diverse your team is now, maybe make each one be of a different experience level? Eg you could have Cass who’s the newcomer, Sam who’s the (relatively) returning gamer, Warren who’s the old grognard and one other. That way you could compare and contrast the varying levels of experience each has and how that influences how they approach things. No idea what system you’d do that’d appeal to all four participants though.
That is a great idea. Tale of four games always got me going when they appeared in White Dwarf.
Its a nerf gun
Reactivated Nerf gun ?!?Lol
Happy New year.
A Song of ice and fire boot camp or themed week.
This game looks fun. And maybe he good for boardgames to switch to wargaming.
And I hope the new Imperial guard infantry kit will come this year.
John could do a nother army painting vlog for that.
Hobby labs are always beneficial, cheap, cheerful and flat packable as lets be honest storage will always be a bane to the hobby
When you next lock John in the basement … “give him an army box/project” round it out with a couple of recorded games, if you already do this and im missing something.. oops
otherwise keep it up, you guys are ace
Happy New Year
Overall I think the balance of content is very good between wargames and card/board games. The focus is clearly on miniatures based content which is as it should be. I’m very happy to hear you are planning for inovative content in 2019 and I look forward to enjoying that too. Favourite things from last year were (so more of these would be good too): – Weekenders and the discussion based XLBS – Con coverage, especially Salute, UKGE, GENCON and Essen (who doesn’t like all that new shiny in one place with hordes of prizes too 🙂 ) – Anything with… Read more »
I’d really like to see John at work with a live hobby challenge of random crap that the other cast members drop in his lap. Say limit it to an hour maybe one and a half as a fill in for Hobby Hangouts along the lines that he had the live paint for Reichbusters. I know this earns me no love but he’s come through with full table builds that were awesome given time. Let’s put him on the spot and apply the screws to his creativity! Time is definitely short for everybody but just seeing a little of what… Read more »
And of course we need Gerry to become head painter, chief hobbyist, the lead Let’s player, the Grand Poohbar of box openings, the Main interviewer and presenter and most importantly head of sarcasm
Really want to see @Warzan lets plays!
Happy New Year to all the hard working OTT gang, looking forward to the mayhem which will as we all know will not be long in coming.
