I wonder what the post-pandemic(ish) situation will do for expos like this one visitor wise. Will everyone thunder towards them, rushing for the limited tickets, desperate for some good ol’ convention vibes. Or will there be fewer visitors, due to people still being nervous? Perhaps we will see a rise in hazmat suit cosplay?
I won’t be attending any events. Wait and see how effective the vaccines are.
Don’t forget the plague doctors …
Already had the virus back in March; not worried about attending any big events in the future.
great news fingers crossed everything works out for the show.
I’m by no means an expert in any relevant field but i think that a non-virtual convention in the UK any time this year is … not likely to happen (without a lot of people getting infected).
As they’ve said in the interview, if it becomes a risk then they won’t do it. They do have everyone’s safety in mind first off.
The current Pandemic has demonstrated that we have a significant number of people who live amongst us and are generally just ignorant and selfish. Unwilling to do even the simple task of socially distancing and wearing a face covering. The bigger the event, the more of these covidiots you are likely to encounter.
Once we eventually get the jab I will be happy just to get back to gaming with a small group of close friends.
Wish them all the best but I think any show this year is overly optimistic. That being said the virtual expo was suprisingly good.
I wish them luck but the way things are I am dubious it will go ahead.
Yup I think in this day and age even if the government allows such conventions to go ahead that attendance will be WAY down (as people will shy away from any large event). It’s not just going to be wargame conventions, but also concerts, cinemas, etc. Sure people will still be going to such things, but if 50% of us stay at home then things are going to be financially unviable. It’s going to take the venue circuit YEARS to recover after this. It’s not about if the event is allowed to go ahead, if it’s medically safe. rather it’s… Read more »
Most of the rented space at these events is also pretty expensive. For a lot of companies the initial outlay might be too much for them to attend
Pretty much, although not many know (unless you’ve organised a show) that the rental for the table and chairs often cost more than the rental of the hall itself (and then we’ve got to talk about the insurance). Quite often (usually with local club run shows), these are run at little or no profit (the club usually makes the profit on the Bring and Buy, but with losses from theft on the day (we always paid out on those) it can be a double edged sword). Add in the free labour from Club members in manning the door, setting up… Read more »
I kind of doubt we will be seeing the smaller events return at all.
The big ones may have a buffer to cover one event for one year, but not with this much uncertainty about wether or not it will be allowed.
And based on what I see in supermarkets … most people are already behaving as if the pandemic has run its course and we are back to ‘normal’ already.
