There is definitely a link between warlords “hand in the bag” gaming mechanic and my “hand in the wallet” life skill. Research needs to be conducted on this, as it is getting harder and harder to explain to my girlfriend where all my money is going……
Sooo good. This is such an exciting project that to finally have the hard back book and plastics and all the other treasures… Not felt like this about a game since about the 1990’s!
I like the idea of weapons and abilities that impact the contents of the dice bag. There were also rules in the Beta test that allowed for vehicles and other large models that have multiple order dice in the bag that would allow them to act multiple times in a turn. It’s a good twist on a good game mechanic.
Not seen a faction that i’ve fallen in love with yet but I am admiring it from afar. The models and game components all look very well done and the rules themselves seem well thought out and interesting (well par for the course since it’s Rick). It’s great to see Priestley’s dream game come alive like this though! Since the “humans” look as weird as most other games actual aliens, I have high hopes that when they do introduce aliens to this game they will be properlly alien-looking and bizarre as aliens should be! Since you said it is hard… Read more »
Even in the Beta Rules there’s a good bit about how space travel and nanotech/IMTEL works.
Oh that’s VERY cool! you may have tipped me 🙂
I have to agree… I think the Algoryn and Concord look OK, actually it’s the Algoryn that caught my eye when this thing started showing up on the internet. But the Boromites look like deformed mutants begging to be put out of their misery. That’s too bad because the art is really great for them, they’re supposed to look like rock hard beefy guys, not mishappen lumps of whatever. The Freeborn suffer from bad color scheme for the studio painted ones. The models I think would look quite good if you paint them in earth tones. The Ghar big robots… Read more »
Great vid, thanks guys! Incidentally I also just got my tracking ID for my pre-order 😉
I love the enthusiasm in this unboxing video – Warren in particular is weakening fast. Soon he will become a productive member of the Concord… err, I mean an Antares player. Nope, nothing Orwellian to see here. Move along… 😉
I hope for more plastic box sets… The ghar look cool, maybe used for a “spider tank”..!!! or used with Warpath too…!!!1
Battle report about the rules next please
Warlord have said that they have another 6 plastic box sets planned for release over the coming year. I think I have heard mention of a vehicle(s).
I’m pretty excited for this release! Needless to say, I’ve pre-ordered a copy. Hopefully delivery to Australia is quick and I’m not left waiting too long!
Incidentally, anyone else noticed the similarity to the Rogue Trader cover?
Does anyone know if more plastics are planed ala Bolt Action or more metals? Would be keen for Concord Jetbikes.
I think they pretty clearly nodded to Rogue Trader cover when they mention, homage for players from 30 years ago…
Crimson Fists defending the farm!
Wasn’t that image used for the 2nd ed rule book as well?
Just got the shipping notification on my pre-order, can’t wait for it to arrive!
Same, shipping to Australia though, so I probably won’t see it for a few weeks yet.
This looks like a really good starter set, I’m excited for mine to arrive. The rules sound interesting, with some depth. I haven’t loved all of the GoA metal miniatures released so far, but these plastics look very nice. Love the concept of the Ghar – spiteful little monkeys who turn into the most brutal race in the universe when inside their battle suits. And I like the creepy, insidious ‘good guys’ of the Concord as well, taking over the universe for its own good. Rick Priestley certainly has a knack for creating compelling settings as well as fun rules,… Read more »
Tempting ^-^
That’s a really impressive starter set – and a lot of innovation on show. I love the weapons messing with activations, multiple firing modes. So many great ideas!
Bravo Warlord. Bravo!
Great starter set.
Damb it this looks good
@Warzan – when do we get to see a battle report with the painted armies?
Outstanding unboxing, time to stalk the mail lady 🙂
My Box arrived today very excited for my day off tomorrow, going to get my hobby on haha.
While the game looks good. Who went back to the 80’s. Man its 2015. Where did the models hide all these years
My preorder arrived this week, but I finally got to open it today. What a great set! Really looking forward to learning more about this game.
Just ordered my starter box today – can´t wait until it arrives. Does anyone know, what the standard tablesize is? I just have a 4 x 4 table by now and I fear, I have to build a larger one, right?
@mkus you’ll be okay to start off with. the rules say small games can be played on 4×4 although they assume that ‘normal’ games will be played on a 6×4. And with larger tables as you increase the points/
I’m waiting for my box set to arrive now that the shipping notice is out. In the meantime, I’m wondering if there are any affiliated ARmy Building Apps under construction for iOS?
