Community Spotlight: Stalwart Space Marines, African Soldiers & Shadespire Stormcast
October 20, 2017 by brennon
Come and join us for another awesome looking into our Hobby & Painting Forum as we pick out some of the neat projects you've been working on over the past week or so.
Let's get stuck in as we take a look at what you've been doing.
Primaris Space Marine by brushbashingbiscuit
We're kicking things off with a little bit of work in progress. Community member brushbashingbiscuit is working on an Armies On Parade board for Warhammer 40,000 and it will centre around his own chapter, the Pillars Of Fortitude. Well, one of his Primaris Space Marines was finished off and it looks ace.
The choice of colours across the model looks fantastic and I really like the clash between the cool blue/grey and the yellow on the shoulder pads. The weapons and accessories have also been blended nicely into the scheme as a whole and don't feel like they stand out too much against the model.
This fellow has even done some sterling work on the shoulder pads and the icon as you can see here. That is a rather nice looking stylised pillar that almost has a bit of a 'wing' quality to it actually as well which is neat. As well as this chap he's been working on some other pieces too including a Chaplain.
Whilst this model is far from finished it's looking great already and it will be fun to follow this project through to its conclusion over the coming weeks I don't doubt. What do you think of his work so far?
Spectre African Militia by tonysilvey
Taking a bit of a turn away from the far future we look to more immediate and modern conflicts with these African Militia soldiers from Spectre by tonysilvey.
The bright colours were the first thing that struck me about these models and it's nice to see that while each of the soldiers has an individual feel they are tied together by the yellow which no doubt is present across all of the models planned for this force.
There's even a 'behind the model' shot for Lloyd here showing off more of his ace work as he highlighted and shaded the shorts and brought out the details on the models.
If I had one thing to say, it would be that there could be some brush or other foliage on the base just to bring it to life a little more. Otherwise, these are looking fab!
Shadespire Stormcast by erion
Last but not least, with Shadespire coming out it seemed apt that we feature someone who painted up the Stormcast Eternals for his FLG. Take a look at the work from erion.
I love the glow that erion has managed to get in the eyes of Steelheart here and the golden armour has been painted up in a simple but effective way. The model actually has a strange artist quality to it I think.
The superb painting, shading and highlighting continue across the other models as the rest of the warband have been brought to life. I think the painting on the bases has also got to be highlighted, especially that ruined face there in the rubble.
I think that your local gaming store are going to be very happy with how these models have turned out erion! Maybe we can get you to come over and paint up our Shadespire models so we can give John a bit of a break!

Once again all are very well done. Congratulations!
Excellent work! Congratulations to this weeks buttoneers!
Wow, cheers Ben, I’ll wear my button with pride!
I’ve already added some brush and just updated my PLog with a couple more militia and a step by step of my first attempt of MTP. I’m afraid that the yellow will not be a theme but there will be plenty of bright colours and am also planning to attempt some football shirts.
Without a doubt wear it with pride! I loved seeing these guys man, and yellow not being a theme yeah I get that, but the football shirts made these guys seem all the more real I think you did fantastic work as I said in the video glad to see you getting a button for your efforts.
Congratulations guys 🙂
Congrats to all the winners, that’s a lovely contrast between the orange and blue-grey on the marine. The militia look great, particularly the one in the yellow wellingtons 😀 .
The chaplain’s head was even painted with invisible paint, awesome!
fabulous paintwork on the models folks.
Wow excellent work everyone. Can’t wait to see that Chaplain finished.
This is all nice… I will, however, not condone mould lines in any shape or form ! This is the only real flaw on that marine, but it’s a beginner’s mistake. It does spoil the effect, even though the colour hamony is bold and the gradients are very smooth.
@brushbashingbiscuit has just started getting back into painting I think he is just learning how to get back into it I think the painting looks amazing, I know exactly what your mean but his a slow painter his aiming for 2018 for his display and I think perhaps it may be that he thought that they were part of the design…
(not a good look when people think mould lines are part of your design GW ha ha)
Well done everyone!
Your buttons are more than well deserved, I really love that we have a community that has an extremely new user who has sincerely entered the forums able to come to the top of the front page and that we have pirates and the latest products from GW on the same page that is a lot of variety.
Well done everyone and I hope you guys feel proud for your achievement 🙂
Very well deserved everybody. I particularly like the freehand on the marine’s shoulderpad.
Thanks everyone. I certainly never expected to see my Liberators here.
Army Painter method for the win!
Wahey!!!! Been away for the weekend and just seen this :0)
Excellent paint jobs @erion and @tonysilvey! I really wasn’t expecting to see any of my marines on here as I’m a new user but i’m really chuffed. Thankyou everyone for your comments.
@elromanozo………your right, mould lines are terrible. i’m just getting back into painting and I do seem to miss them a lot nowadays, (my sight ain’t what it used to be haha) i’m hoping as I get more into it again i’ll be missing fewer lines!!!
@caladors I’ve always flicked in and out BOW over the last few years and now I have the starter set for 40k and am getting back into painting (hopefully the whole starter set will get done…………………eventually haha) I thought it was about time 2/3 weeks ago to go full bore and sign up backstage. Really loving all the extra content and the casual chat of the XLBS
