Get Involved! Spring Clean Hobby Challenge 2023
June 7, 2023 by brennon
It's the return of the Spring Clean Hobby Challenge. It's Springtime, a period of the year all about renewal and regrowth. We're asking you to crack out your old, broken, badly painted (yet still awesome) projects and give them a new lease of life.
Get Involved Here
All you have to do is delve into the Project Section and get building yourself a new entry that shows us your progress as you turn something old into something new.
How To Get Involved
Here's a rundown of what you need to do to be involved...
- Create a Project
- Click on the Drop Down Menu for Related Contest and choose Spring Clean Challenge 2023 (it's important you choose 2023!)
- Start by showing us what you began with, an old model, piece of terrain, army or something more esoteric like a diorama!
- Fill in your entries throughout the period of the contest showing us how you turned something old into something new
We can't wait to see what kind of projects you bring together for this one.
Prizes
Of course, it wouldn't be a challenge without some prizes thrown into the mix.
- The challenge runs from 20th March through to 21st June (which just so happens to be all of Springtime!) so you've got about a few months to develop your projects
Prizes for Overall Winner and Runner-Ups will be given out to...
- Best Skill - The most skilled work, be it painting or overall finish.
- Best Tutorial - The person who shows us, in detail, the steps from start to finish
- Best Idea - You don't have to have finished your work to be able to produce something which showed great skill in the planning
- Best Junior Member - Someone under the age of 16 will also win themselves a prize!
- A Breath Of Fresh Air - Take a beautiful picture of your finished work in an awesome outdoor location! (New Category For This Year!)
All entries will be judged based on the number of votes received in each of those categories and our own personal choices from here at the studio.
The prizes will be...
5x £75 Vouchers For The OnTableTop Store
5x £25 Runner-Up Vouchers For The OnTableTop Store
So make sure you delve into this and get stuck in. We as part of the OnTableTop crew are most certainly going to be getting involved ourselves and showing off work we've been doing on our own armies.

Spring again? Damn!
Yes… the Spring Cleaning Challenge is back! A great motivation to get those projects finished (or started)! Having started with ‘The Reborn’ https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1801201/ to bust those Winter blues, I’ve already got a few more mini projects in mind… ???
If you are looking for a bit of inspiration… last year somehow I won the category for best idea https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1723806/ I was totally gobsmacked and humbled to receive such an accolade from this fantastic and supportive community.
So I encourage everyone from beginners to old-timers, please do give it a go…
Here we go again *blows the dust off the 54mm Sgt Artemis*
Oh boy was that another year of failure.
I want to see the OnTableTop staff Spring Challenge projects. Have another award added as voted by the community on the Best Ontabletop Staff project. Ben dusting off an old lord of the rings project, Warren finishing that dungeon wall display, all those conquest armies you did not finish leaving it to just Gerry to see it through to the end. Brother Lloyd finally doing his Kroot army !!! At the end have some voting system where the community chooses the one they like the most they are Crowned OnTableTop Spring Challenge Lord / Lady 2023 and get to choose… Read more »
I might suggest that as a fun unofficial one for us to throw into the mix 🙂
Hi Ben, I have decided to dust off my Middle Earth collection, get painting and playing again. I have grand plans for this project (which is already no1 on Google UK for “Middle Earth Mega Project”) and will be in danger of “Dwarfing” (see what I did there??) my “Stalingrad Mega Project”!
Do we need to start new projects, or can we tag and add to existing projects?
Yeah, I’ve just picked up and done some work on stuff I picked up in 2016 as part of my own tidy up and solo play, seems good to tie the two together
If you have an old project that you would like to continue using now, you should be able to edit your project and pick a new “contest” from the drop-down menu.
Heck, I just decided yesterday that I’m going to try to make time for painting one evening in the week (or two weeks) again. So I might do a tiny Spring Cleaning project?
Can but hope I don’t get side tracked by something this year.?
Time dust off some old minis and get painting!
I am having so much fun with this!
Do we have to close down the blogs after the spring clean ends? Or is it okay to leave them open & carry on updating just for fun?
Hi there, I enjoyed my “Stalingrad Mega Project” so much that I have re-entered it every year!
