Metal models on plastic bases…if you are struggling to not damage the model debasing them, throw them in the freezer for an hour and the superglue “should” go brittle, basically this due to the two materials reacting to the cold at different speeds.
Plastic on plastic, I would just do what Lloyd suggests, take the clippers to get rid of the bulk, then file rest away. I’d also spend the time pinning them after that.
Just use square bases . Life’s too short
also square are naturally better
Of course
Couldn’t have said it better. As long as the army is uniform, you’re fine.
Very excited for this game ^^
Great content fellas – Saga just isn’t on my radar atm, but this was very interesting and has made me think that perhaps I need another system in my life ?
Swapping square bases for round? Sacrilege! ? ? I think you should keep them on the squares, that way you can still use them for WHFB (just because it’s not supported doesn’t mean you have to stop playing 😉 ), Ninth Age or KoW; as Gerry says, square fits into skirmish easier than round into rank ‘n’ file. If Warren is so set on 3D printing and so set against squares, how about he prints something that clips into a square base or a square base can slit into that will convert them into rounds, that way you can have… Read more »
I like your sphinx sir
It’s good isn’t it. Just to need to find out when they reopen their shop post kickstarter to add some other bits. But no rush there
Tart them up and get them killed! If he must then print round bases at 28.2842712474619mm Dia. and put rocks etc. at 3mm high leaving a central square void. But I say again play with as is, before Version 3 is published.
“that belly” is the fabled “Dadbod”! There is only one rule. Do not dis the Dadbod!
Also meant to say a CD is about 4.5 inches, I even got the tape out to check!
I have dim memories of it matching the old warhammer large blast template
8 cm (CD single) or 12 cm (standard CD) in the kind of measurements real people use 😉
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_single
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_disc
wiki speaks truth 😉
As Huey Lewis and the News sung “Take it from me…It’s hip to be square!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LB5YkmjalDg
Very cool. Well Warren has armies now for Saga.
He can start a Night’s watch army for A Song Of Ice And Fire now.
Very easy to paint and can be used for Saga as well. 🙂
Liking the dino list. Now where did I put those Foundry T-Rexes?
Gerry, do you hold some more old confrontation models that you want to get rid off?
Hahahaha.
Seriously though, not enough for anything more than a painting project for one or two minis
“slightly abandoned” Brilliant!!
If he is bound and determined to print things and to rebase the whole thing, then why not print out ’round base adapters’ that can just glue onto the square base making it round. i.e. “if you want this done, then you do the hard work.” 😉
The Shaggoth is miles better than that “World’s Weediest Giant”
For re-basing the metal minis on plastic bases, you can do it very effectively by putting them in the freezer overnight and then the glue bond will break down making separation, so very quick and simple.
You know @lloyd for the whole “the knife suddenly goes through the mini and stabs you in the leg” thing, o_0 the knife won’t stab you if there is a table between the knife and your leg. 🙂 A little Pro-Tip there for you. 😉 😛 😉
Could you not get circle bases with square sabots so rather than re base properly keep the old but let them become circle on demand?
This is an awesome project. I really hope you follow through on this initial burst of energy. I’d love to see these emerge sometime during the summer and would love to watch a few Let’s Plays. That sphinx is an amazing model. I’m off to the interwebs to track one down somewhere.
It’s made by cadwallon but their shop is closed while they finish fulfilling their kickstarter…well not closed but most stuff is out of stock.but you can get an email pinged to you when it comes back in
Going through a similar exercise at the moment. Got all the goblin tribes from Knightmare Miniatures for Saga specifically, plus a High Elf force from Last Sword and the medieval demons from Antediluvian. On top of that, all my Rackham and Warhammer Fantasy Battle forces. The possibilities are endless. While still working on all those armies for their original systems, getting them ready for Saga is a good stepping stone, painting 4 – 12 of a unit when I feel like it rather than committing to 20+. Also gives me the opportunity to use some figures that were languishing in… Read more »
Can’t wait to see the project log for them. Sounds like a home away from home.
It’ll all go into my general fantasy log, my whole life is really one big wargaming project. Though I am starting to run out of time to get all the armies finished…
9h that’s alright then I’m already subscribed to that ?
Nice work Gerry and Llloydy , think small table will have to be cleared and have to get out old Mage Knight figures to sort , remembered I had the hill giant with Dwarf cannons on it and Dwarf tank.
The army of bug you mentioned means my boxes of £1 shop ants can appear again (probably the figures that have had most use) Think I see a project coming!!!
It is kind of odd to see the difference between elves and chaos being reduced to visual aspect of an army.
Or is there something that gives an army extra flavour when using the same battleboard/army list in Age of Magic ?
Maybe this because other companies force loads of special rules on to armies to make them seem different. Fantasy gaming for me has always just been ancient/medieval gaming with magic added
That definitely is true.
And it’s probably because ‘chaos’ in particular has been such an uniquely flavoured ‘evil’ army.
However as a result it feels a bit too generic (to me).
It may be something as simple as a set of spells with a more specific theme to add a bit more character to the army.
Nice vlog chaps.Don’t rebase, there’s no need, just put some tufts on them if anything, that will bring them ” back to life “.Also,so a few games will be able to be played ? A couple of @warzan introductory games followed by a slug-fest ( or two ) between @avernos and @lloyd ?
Debasing, hard plastic on plastic try standing them in Methylated spirit (just enough to cover the base to the feet) just recently soaked some minis to take old paint of them and glued parts came off to, which made repainting easier. Obviously try on a mini your not that in love with before going into full on production.
I’m quite looking forward to this ruleset. I’ve got quite a few random models rhat I’ve picked up because they’re cool, this will give me a chance to use them!
@avernos @squirrellord @gerry You really need the old Goblin War giant from Grenadier for your Orc army
I had one, I should pick up another
You might as well get the giant dwarven cannon while your ordering the giant
always loved that bombard.
I like their range of lovely inexpensive dragons
Have you thought about putting them of sabot bases. Dont cut them off bases print some 30mm round base that a 20mm square base will fit in.
You could simply glue the 20mm square bases to 30mm round ones. To work out the diameter of a square base multiply the width across the flats by 1.414 (20 x 1.414 = 28.28). This would save a lot of injuries to modellers and soldiers having to miss their next battle with a broken leg! Just in case your wanting some more maths to work a diameter for a hexagon, thats six sides Warren, multiply the across flats measurement by 1.154. By the way thanks for the Youtube and Backstage content. I really enjoy the Let’s plays as i don’t… Read more »
