Have you been waiting to hear what's next for Dropzone Commander?
Well, get ready! Dave from Hawk Wargames has been in the Beasts of War studio to give us all a taste of what to expect in Dropzone Commander Second Edition.
Are you as excited as we are?

As a relative newbie to DzC, looking forward to this (only bought the starter set earlier this year and didn’t really progress much further). Disappointed with 8th Ed 40k so looking for other games to get properly into and this is high up on the list! (Mainly due to the smaller storage requirements! 🙂 )
I want that Saber-tank poster size to put up on my wall! Its great to hear about a 2nd ed as we had been talking about exactly this during the summer, a true wish come true! The game is great as of the moment but it has grown much during the past years and need an update, just as the armybuilder app 😀 Keep it going Hawk! Looking forward playing more Dzc/DfC battle and campaigns!
Looking forward to getting my hands on this
No plans to introduce a new faction?
Best of luck with the new edition. Hopefully can get my group into this as it is a little easier when there is hype around a game.
Great news! Can we assume Resistance will be in the rulebook?
I am also curious what, beside of the new rules, will be in the new rulebook.
Stats for all existing units?
And what will happen with the fluff from the three existing books? I have all of them, but for new players this would be interesting to know. Perhaps a separate new “fluff-book” that contains the existing storyline makes sense?
I am so looking forward for 2nd edition!
The care and love that have gone into DZC and the five years from v1 to v2 show the quality. Keep up the good work and may this be an even bigger success.
I’ll be keeping my eye on this. Are resin or plastic infantry a possibility for 2nd edition?
I am liking the direction that this is going, I look forward to finding out more, it will be interesting how big the book will be if it includes all the existing units plus some new ones.
Looking forward to the transport rule changes. Not looking forward to having to buy new sets of command cards though.
I like that sound of the rule changes mentioned. The wife is looking forward to the new edition as well, Dropzone is still her favourite game we play.
I can’t wait for the new edition, going to start saving my cash now
I wonder what will be in the new starter set. The current plastics still stand up well, but I’d snap up something new.
will be a great time for me to start then. Can’t wait to get some shaltari goodness.
Really looking forward to this. Perfect chance to reinvigorate Dropzone locally and get all the Dropfleet players onboard as well. I like the sound of the changes Dave mentioned. In particular the fast movers one, that’ll make make you consider will you throw your AA at it. I wonder can the same attack runs be used for intercept as well? The ability to customize your deck will be interesting, certainly would have helped non-flight UCM in the current edition. One thing I’d wish would be availability of a rules-only book. I love all the fluff and surely the DzC2 book… Read more »
I agree with @guillotine and hope that Hawk opt for a digital version of the rulebook (complete or rules-only). One of Hawk’s strengths is that they listen to their players and issue clarifications, erratas, and FAQs when changes need to be made. It would be much easier to keep track of everything if they updated into a living digital rulebook.
Dave mentions in the video that PHR will be more forgiving, but still quite slow. He also says that the Taranis will no longer be useless. I’m curious to see how all this plays out.
I really do hope the UCM drone carrier is more limited in the second edition. Endless spawning from something that clearly has a limited capacity is just ridiculous. Also it could easily get a little OP with unlimited free attack spawned units in games.
Stopped playing about a year after entering some tiurnaments and stopped for the reasons Dave pointed out
Take your time with the rule set and I look forward to getting my Scourge back on the table
Very much looking forward to my main game getting a fresh lick of paint. Bringing those few neglected units back into contention while giving fast movers a better place in the game all sounds great.
Finally a reason to get my resistance army up and running! Looking forward to going head first info this one after dropping in and out for five years!
I’m really liking the sound of all of this. Of the things not covered in the video there are four areas I’d like to see some changes: 1) I’d like to see some ‘ground’ lists. I definitely approve of making the game more dropship-focussed, but I’d like to see more ‘frontline’ or battleline type units. e.g. I’d like every now and again to see an army with say 8 Bear APCs carrying 40 stands of Legionnaires. Garrisoning a front line and not meant to be airmobile. Perhaps this kind of list would only be for scenario rather than tournament play,… Read more »
