Sci-Fi Fallen Frontiers Game Gets Stuck In On Kickstarter
June 3, 2014 by brennon
A new Sci-Fi property has sprung up on Kickstarter from Scale75 called Fallen Frontiers. The galaxy has been colonised by humans and new ingenious energy sources and alien species have been discovered. There's gonna be a scrap for sure!
Already from seeing the artwork you get drawn into this world. It's very much the 'macho' first person shooter style of design where everyone has big muscles, massive armour, and bigger guns but hell that works! Above are each of the factions in the game that all actually look distinctly different and the miniatures look even cooler.
Now those are cool and it looks like they've got everything sorted from a miniature point of view but these are still in the prototype stage and may indeed get tweaked before release. However, since everything is pretty much done in terms of sculpting and designing it shouldn't take them long to churn out the goodies once the fundraiser ends.
The game itself sounds rather cool indeed drawing on both miniatures and cards to play the game...
"The factions and the cards use up resources to carry out some actions. The main resources are moral and Krithium. You can get moral by achieving targets and causing losses among your enemy while your army suffers as less as possible. Using these points will exhaust our army but, on the other hand, it will make it produce above average. The Krithium is a resource that has to be collected in game and it's a source of energy that enhances teams weapons and cards. The player will have an armory that can be used during the game and that has to be fed with Krithium (a separate deck where you get equipment paid with the Krithium collected). The contents of the armory can also be set up by the player just like the deck of cards."
Scale75 did well with their previous fundraiser for Duel Fighters so it looks like they know what they're doing with this one! What do you think folks?
Have you got room for another Sci-Fi game?

This looks like a great skirmish game that will have everything in the starter box to get going. I am interested, however, I would like to see a sample of how the gameplay works.
I think the minis are great and the card mechanic has me interested. I should also have money by the time it ends (unlike DUST) so I’m pledged.
This getting annoying, every time I think I’ve made up my mind about where I’ll spend my money, another great game pops up.
Between Dust, Wolsung and this one I’ve got some hard choices to make. These miniatures look absolutely fantastic.
Looks great, and the riff is a great range just cannot find room for another game
I’m sold, already put my pledge in.
On this. Just not sure how much yet as trying to weigh up Dust, which I have always wanted to get into and this, which looks all the more awesome if you have seen them next to the 40k terminator for scale. 😀
Wulsung next with Mantics Dungeon crawler also. Hmmm sometimes I wish I was the Prime Minister, so I would have easier decisions to make. 😉
Have tto also add that this has been the best KS video I have seen to date. Really informative about the whole project and you vet to meet the peple to. 🙂
I’ve pledged on this. Love the look of the scale, suits skirmish games really well I think.
Btw, anyone who likes the look of this or will be pledging, please “like” this game on facebook as it helps towards stretch goals.
Pledged. Those Berserkers are awesome!
looks good.
Want to see rules first, I have Deadzone so not sure I need another skirmish game, though those mini’s are awesome.
Though looking at it, they say shipping is April 2015!!!! Maybe I’ll pass, too used to Mantic churning stuff out the same year I guess!
I backed this the day it came out looks great and so far they seem to be answers any questions that backers are asking the only fault about this kickstarter is some of there spelling but then again English isn’t their native tongue
The Mini’s look nice though there’s a lot of repeated poses and they have provided almost nothing as regards to how the game works, it just seems to run using a mix of ideas used by some of the more current Sci-Fi Skirmish systems at the moment…
I ended up pledging for this one. The main drive was the fact that I love every mini in the starter.
This looks good but has it already been done.
Squad based games aren’t new, all you have to do is look as far as Deadzone and Mercs. I am in agreement with Calmblue I need to see some gameplay before I decide. Lovely miniatures do not always make for awesome gameplay.
Any other time i’d probably think of backing this. But i’m getting a bit sick of generic looking games with generic looking space marines in generic looking powered armour firing generic looking guns.
So may shinies…… so little time…….

I… uh… well hello there good looking! I could see you coming home with me!
Too bad they don’t stick to industry standards and have choosen an odd scale of 40mm 🙁
Didn’t notice that untill you pointed it out. That makes it a definite no from me then.
Same here. Not going to get into a scale that is unsupported by the rest of the world.
Alas I read this *after* I pledged and went hunting for one of the scale comparison pics which can be found in update #4 of the Kickstarter (and also, below). Once again I have been suckered by a pretty red-head in armour!
Drat!
Looks cool I hope they succeed and start putting out what looks like some really pretty, different/interesting miniatures. That said their price point is just too high for something I wouldn’t be able to easily get my game group into … what with Dropzone … Warhmachine … Deadzone … already. If they had free north American shipping I’d have been sorely tempted to jump in but being on the fence that was just enough to push me away from it.
Again though no criticism of the game or the figs, it all looks pretty damn cool!!
Excellent figure for free if goal is reached:

That guy would make an awesome Stage 1A for Deadzone! I’ve always been a little disturbed by the Plague’s lack of pants!
This looks amazing, really nice looking models, deep background. Really could have done without another awesome kickstarter this year but will be disappointed if I can’t scrape together funds for this…
I thought the poor English in their description was due to it being a foreign game. But then I found it’s from a company from London. I think one of their stretch goals should be for a proof reader. I didn’t see at first what the problem was with the scale being at 40mm. Then I realised it affects the size of terrain you need to play it with. Which means that everyone’s general 28mm to 32mm scale terrain will be too small, and they’ll have to spend time and money on making/buying new pieces to match the scale of… Read more »
They’re a Spanish company but you can’t run a KS from Spain. The only place in Europe you can run one from is the UK so that’s why it says they’re in the UK.
You can’t ‘easily scale down’ 3d sculpts, that’s really not how it works 🙂
Otherwise everyone would design 54mm figures then release them in 54mm, 40mm, 33mm, 20mm, 15mm, 10mm and 6mm all at once.
For every shrinkage in size you will start to lose detail and parts will need to be resculpted. The smaller you get the more difficult it is to get organic 3d sculpts to look good (or regualr sculpts for that matter).
