It’s the XLBS Show…………..Happy Sunday Fellow CoG’s!
Unidentified Aerial Phenomena(UAP) is the new name for UFO , #uncanny ftw
Happy Sunday all. I’m not sure how I’d react to 10 foot aliens in my back garden, offer a cup of tea? You might be here to conquer the planet but I’m culturally obliged to offer you a warm beverage. Anyway your all behind the times, it’s all about the Loch Ness sighting now – 60 feet of shadow snapped by a Frenchman but unless it’s wearing a eyepatch or rocking pink lipstick it’s obviously not a member of the family ness.
Las Vegas UAP event that Lloyd mentions https://abc7.com/las-vegas-aliens-ufo-alien-news/13359881/
Did you sneak in an episode about 3D printing while Gerry had his back turned?
Happy Sunday XLBSers.
Great work Lloyd.
FED-EX you hear about them but never seen them.
Seen the video all you see is shadows ?
Nice youser Ben.
Yosser.
Is that not why women don’t judge distances accurately ? Because some men have sad that to them Ben, Gerry.
Hail Hydra.
Lol, John.
In my experience, a proper metal or resin miniature still beats a 3D printed resin miniature in quality, especially when it comes down to multipart models. I have an older printer, but they just don’t fit together well. The detail on my older printer (2k) is also not that great compared to “proper” miniatures.
Plant based resin, is still 80% made of chemicals that you can’t put through the drain….
I love @panzerkaput Rome, great job there.
You can get a additive to make car paints flexible so clear lacquer could be the way to go.?
Bye great show guy’s.
Happy Sunday.
I’m still in the non-3d printed camp. While 3d printed models looks very nice, I’m sceptical about durability and how well they can be repaired, especially when painted. It’s all very well saying you can just print out another mini but then having to paint it again…
But then each material has its ups and downs and with 3d printing I’m sure things will continue to improve.
My hope is the 3d printing will live alongside traditional cast miniatures and more choice is always a good thing.
I bought some 10mm Trolls. Dropped one about 3 inches on to my work table and the arms fell off
Oh dear. Did you manage to fix them? 3d printed I presume?
No I had ordered more than I needed so didn’t bother
I came here for button shield chat ?
Currently the things putting me off 3d printing, which may change in time, are:
Print lines;
Brittleness;
No space for a printer;
Current pile of shame
Don’t worry I still have THE LIST!
Happy Sunday. I really enjoyed the Warren-rant-less episode this week, but I do hope he comes back soon – I miss the meandering discourses! ?
I have to agree to Lloyd – the advancement of resin printers has pushed my back to a wall. Why buy stuff off Etsy when I can make my own for cheaper when building large armies.
But I just can’t be arsed farting around with a printer when I just want some models. 3D printing may be easier than it was, but it’ll always be easier to just click a button and have your crap come in the post a few days later. Harumph!
Which is why I think it would be good for companies to offer STL files and pre-printed physical items. I think there will always be a desire for just buying the stuff in a box.
Bizarre episode gents. Anytime Gerry is out…it just goes odd ?.
As for 3D printing, I’ve got an FDM and never have any issues at all, curious about Justin’s comment. Never been interested in printing my own figures though, prefer plastic.
Happy… too hot.

Huh. I’m scrambling to get the ldf bits of my Star Wars table done before the Spring Cleaning challenge ends and I discover that I’ve won a golden button for it! Cheers, hope you enjoy the last pieces!
For Justin, the prints are done on my brother’s Ender 3.
I own a 3d printer but I don’t use it. The one issue I have is the shelf life of the resin. If I buy a bottle online there’s no guarantee it wont have a BBE of 6 months. I want to be able to print a model, or some parts or bases when I feel like. To have the printer as an always available tool to enhance my hobby, not dominate it. If I want to run of 20 bases right now I’ll end up buying a litre, barely using it, and then in 5 months time mass printing… Read more »
28mm miniatures require resin printing, which has fumes, supports (cf. mold lines), and additional prep work. So I’d say it’s still in the Enthusiast stage of technology. Plastic printing requires better resolution for 28mm, so, hopefully we’ll see advancements there. 3D printing services may be a thing, since, obviously, there’s more to 3D printing than miniatures. Companies which already supply replacement parts (eg. in dishwashers) may use 3D printers to reduce inventory costs, as sell files to in-house maintenance (eg. a property manager who has a staff handyman for apartment repairs). For the hobby, etsy and other printing services are… Read more »
