Sorry but for that price I’d be very upset that it fitted together so badly
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem uncommon with big resin pieces from the ones that I’ve had experience with. I built a couple of Forgeworld titans and several other large pieces a few years ago and they were all a pig when it comes to misaligned pieces, you just have to try and find the best (or least worst) fit and work from there. Personally, I just don’t think large pieces of resin work very well for multi-part kits unless you are happy to put quite a bit of work into getting them to fit. If the challenge of building a complex… Read more »
Looks good did you use a toothbrush to add more wood grain to the greenstuff or was the sculpting tool just as good John?
I just used the sculpting too the whole time. I;ve so little experience with it I was just seeing what I could manage to do.
The model looks great John.
greenstuff gap filling is an art. it’s also a great technique to hide the conversions and mistakes you make when building stuff 🙂 ( gluing the wrong arm on a double handed weapon so the arm doesn’t fit flush)
challenging yourself with a build can leave lasting memory. i have models that were painful to build(forge world) but the pride i get from looking at them complete even after 10 years add to the model.
I quite enjoy shoving putty into holes, but find that green stuff sometimes isn’t the best one to use because it isn’t the easiest to sand.
After Gerry’s videos I got the feeling that Milliput would be better for gap filling, I’ve made a recent start at trying to gap fill some Kingdom Death and found Green stuff easiest to use but the Milliput easiest to finish, sanding as you say but also post-drying sculpting.
These big resin kits don’t go together too well, though I do quite enjoy the process of filling gaps. It’s just an opportunity to give the model a really good finish. That must’ve taken an eternity though. Good going!
I think it took about 8 hours over three days? Just a rough estimate.
And felt way longer than that?
Honestly, I just enjoyed the experience with the greenstuff. So it wasn’t so bad. I had to find a point where I needed to stop 😛
I have rivets and panel lining in my future. I could do with your patience 😉
