The Plague of Deadzone Spreads in Its Final Week
May 27, 2013 by dracs
It is the final week of the Deadzone Kickstarter and Mantic are pressing towards some exciting stuff in these final days, the first of which are the terrifying Plague Zombies!
These are the poor unfortunates infected with the plague and will be ranging from the infected scientists and civilians to infected corporation soldiers.
Yet it is not just humans who must fear the plague. Mantic recently unveiled the reptilian looking Teraton, along with a concept sketch of what could happen if the plague got to it.
Yet Mantic have also shown off something far more rare and far more dangerous. The only Judwan assassin ever to have existed.
Turned into a killer through barbaric methods, the being known as Wrath is the most wanted sentient in the galaxy. Something to do with murdering one of Council of Seven and taking their ceremonial blade.
Now is your last chance to enter the Deadzone, head to the Kickstarter and pledge your support.

I’ve not been that impressed with some of the recent stretch goals but the Wrath has got them right on track!
The Teraton model looks fantastic!
I’m a big fan of what Mantic are trying to do – fists full of mini’s at reasonable prices – so I’ve backed this since the beginning. Even if you’re not into the mini’s though, the terrain range they are producing is fantastically versatile. I highly recommend you check it out, even if you only play 40k, Infinity, or another 28-ish mm scale game.
They produce interesting concept art and background, their kickstarter really fleshes out the warpath universe.
I’m not really that into the Plague as I see it as a rip-off of Sedition Wars the Strain. Studio McVay worked hard on coming up with a unique sci-fi zombie not to have others copy it. The other stuff is good as I see it as Mantics very own ideas, as apposed to them mimicking others ideas with a slight twist. I didn’t mean to rant on like that, it’s just I support small companies like Studio McVay and see it as low to step where others have gone. You end up taking away what little business they need… Read more »
The McVeys and Mantic are pretty close. I’m sure if Mike thought Ronnie was ripping him off he’d say something. What with the McVey’s having worked with Ronnie at GW and then doing design work for Mantic and all.
How is the plague anything like the strain? I thought the strain was an intelligent nano virus ?
arent the strain a kind of metal zombie hybrid?
The low level strain are pretty much the bad guys out of Virus. I half expected the Sedition Wars kickstarter to feature a Jamie Lee Curtis hero miniature! The higher generation strain are less zombie like and more original in their design 🙂 That said, while I agree the high level concept for the game does seem pretty close to Sedition Wars, I don’t see too many similarities between the Strain and the Plague in terms of the models (except for the new plague zombies Mantic are working on). The generation one and two plague minis look pretty cool in… Read more »
Seriously the Sedition wars Stain is a hard to get unique concept? Sorry, but lets disillusion ourselves, zombies are an ancient concept, cybernetic zombies, zombies made from nano virus and zombies plague created by ancient artifacts are not a new idea. Neither is the combination of any of the above, similar concepts have graced the sci fi scene in literature, movies, comics, anime and games for decades. Yes, mc vey did a nice cyber zombie, mantic did a nice alien virus zombie, neither of which are unique or original. I do not think anybody can come up with an original… Read more »
I own Sedition Wars and quite like it, but I’m in for Deadzone too. I really enjoy Dreadball so I hope the designer’s work will show through in this game. I have enough room for similar concepts in my gaming world, and the amount of stuff for the money is great value, as usual from Mantic.
Well said, mate 🙂
I quite like the fact that the aesthetic is similar, as it means I can combine the forces from both games much more easily with a single colour scheme 😀
Love the Teratons!
Looks like the riot shield Enforcer is a universal hit 🙂
As a very wise man (Warren Johnston) once said… “I want me one of those!”
I want to like it but there’s so much that’s been done before. I’m so sick of zombies of any type. I would like them to a bit more unique with story and look.
how about giant teleporting tortoise warriors? Or strip-mining space dwarves without beards? Or grey aliens, commanding armies combat droids from their comfy orbital starships? Or Afrika-corp orx with combat exo-skeletons and exploding chainsaw dogs? Or there’s just a whole load of inexpensive, versatile modular buildings, and great deals on antenocitis accessories and army painter gear? Any of that sound like its worth a look? 😉
Check out the latest stretchgoal list and the exclusives for those who are pledging $400+ and $500+.
I love the diverse mixture of races, the possible alliances, the potential for backstabbing in multi-player games (like Game of Thrones in SPACE!)
