VLOG: Normandy Boot Camp Prep – Terrain Colour [Part One]
May 13, 2019 by dignity
The team are gearing up for the next boot camp with Battlefront Miniatures as we start to construct the invasion of Normandy.

Warren and Justin take us through some of the terrain mat preparation. The mats provided make for a good Eastern Front but there is some work to do so that they best represent the Normandy invasion. Shades of green are added through some nylon dye and airbrushing.
What are you hoping to see from boot camp?
Rather smart idea, something to look out for on my next trip to Home Bargains.
That´s allready looking very good. You can make and should do it rather juicy green, I believe. Normandy happened in late spring, early summer, so a kind of fat green is appropriate.
As you´ll have 10 mats I suggest you sell some once the boot camp is over
Wait? What? But @theterraintutor already did tone down his mat! @warzan didn’t do his research! SHAME! (Damn it, can’t find the video… but he did one where he darkened the mat to fit his Burma build)
yes but he was toning down scatter and seeds on a caulked mat he made himself. The question we had was would it work on the screen printed nylon on top of the neoprene
No, I’m pretty sure he used a printed and bought mat. But unless I find the video he did it in I will never know.
the burma mat was one he made himself, unless it’s in his paetron feed or something like that
Yes, he used a DeepCut mat and recoloured it with some housepaint through an airbrush. I don’t think there is a tutorial video on it (yet), it was on one of his rambley vids.
Mel found it! 😉 @warzan you may want to look at the Burma Build Videos #9 and #10.

A word of warning using fabric dyes. Make sure you use the Dylon Cold Dye Fix. Otherwise you will find yourself and your clothing taking on the colour you laid down. Take it from someone who has been on the receiving end of this.
Great Vlog BTW
I thought the preferred method was using your hands 😉
I hope you are putting thoughts in to sealing it in. I’d be afraid it’ll come off on peoples hands and perhaps minis after a few games. Especially steressfull games on hot days when perhaps people are getting a little moist.
I have rubbed myself vigorously on one of the mats (as I do during every mat test I’ve ever conducted)
more of me ended up on the mat than it did on me 😉
Stay class, @Warzan! Is this footage for “Warren Meets Mat After Dark”?
Neat idea guys.
What no mask, even when spraying outside………………Great idea @warzen, but sadly something i
ll never have a go at. Can
t wait to see the mats finished, and everything set up on them. I won`t be at the boot camp, but i will be following the event.People wear masks while spraying?
We should do @torros, after all we do breath in the spray when spraying.
Bringing out the big guns I see
a great idea guys one downer on this video @warzan at least use a particle mast you only have one set off lungs guys.
Hmmm…i picked up an inexpensive sheet of light grey 3mm neoprene to act as a table cover for boardgames and I’ll have some cutoffs. I think I may experiment with painting my own terrain…trying on the cutoffs first of course!
@warzan making love to his mats just makes me think this might have been better titled “50 Shades of Green”… which might not be unlike the OTT staff in the aftermath of Lloyd’s wedding (Sam’s last video as case in point)
How many wives does Lloyd have now?
His collection is apparently growing lol
I really do love how inventive you guys are I would never have thought of this or dared to do it for fear of ruining a very nice mat.
This is why you are the true hobby gods, looking forward to the boot camp
I can’t wait for this 🙂
Thats acttuallt a firly simple way if adapting your terrain. I would never have thought it was that easy! Nice one guys ?
