New Faction & More In Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Dominion!
May 31, 2021 by brennon
Games Workshop unveiled what's inside that new launch box for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. The "Epic Fantasy" continues with the Stormcast Eternals finding themselves facing down the forces of the Kruleboyz Orruks in the Realm Of Ghur. We even got treated to a new cinematic trailer...

The new trailer shows off some of the characters that we'll see below descending from the Realm Of Azyr to do battle with the Kruleboyz. We get a good look at the expansive realm that Sigmar has called home and the rampage that these new Stormcast Eternals are looking to halt.
New Stormcast Eternals
On the one side of the conflict, we have the Stormcast Eternals who are being led into battle by Yndrasta, The Celestial Spear.
Yndrasta, The Celestial Spear // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
We've seen her model before of course but it is still pretty cool I'd say. I like the armour, the pose, the weapons and those impressive wings. However, she is going to need some champions to join her in battle.
Featured in the cinematic trailer, we have the strategists of the Stormcast Eternals in the Lord-Imperatant.
Lord-Imperatant With Gryph-Hound // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The model is pretty cool and I like that it comes with those two head options. The bearded face is nice but I think that the stylised mask and helmet certainly continue through that immortal and undying warrior feel. I will say that despite being a strategist, it didn't stop him from roaring like an idiot at those Kruleboyz that shot him. I think he needs Reforging so he can get some more training.
The forces of Sigmar don't just rely on martial might. Some of their kind were once powerful mages in another life and so once more fulfil that role as Stormcast Eternal.
Knight-Arcanum // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Once again, very sold on the miniature, especially when it comes to the masked variant. It's also neat to see another female character model for the forces of Sigmar. I think you could have a lot of fun painting up this particular character with crackling energy radiating from around her staff and outstretched hand.
Banners look to be back in a big way too. The Knight-Vexillor here comes with that impressive standard which pushes the forces of Sigmar on to greater feats of heroics.
Knight-Vexillor With Banner Of Apotheosis // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
It actually has a small piece of the Anvil Of Apotheosis imbued into its design meaning that the Stormcast Eternals now carry a part of their immortality around with them wherever they go. This is probably a good thing since Be'lakor made it much harder for a Stormcast to return to Azyr now.
New Stormcast Eternals Units
We also got to see some new Stormcast Eternals units as well. For example, we have the halberd armed Praetors who are going to be striding into battle alongside your characters.
Praetors // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
If you prefer the idea of just rushing in and crushing your opponents into smoking ruin then you have the rather excellent Annihilators. I still absolutely love those hammers and shields.
Annihilators // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
I think the Annihilators, alongside the Knight-Arcanum, might be my favourite miniatures from the new set. There is also a place for these new rank and file units.
Vindictors // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Vindictors // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The Vindictors carry over that theme of Ancient Greece into the design of the new Stormcast Eternals. I like the spear and shield combo when it comes to their choice of weapon and they feel like they are going to look amazing when arrayed on the table in a shieldwall. Again, a good mix of different body types in the set and plenty of bare head options for those who like seeing the faces of their warriors.
Upcoming Stormcast Eternals Miniatures
As well as getting a look at what is included in the Dominion set, we also got a peek at two miniatures coming up shortly after its release to expand the armies of Sigmar.
Knight-Judicator With Gryph-Hounds // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The Knight-Judicator seems like a pretty awesome miniature to include in your force if you like the idea of hunting down your enemies from afar. He comes with a pair of much more feral looking Gryph-Hounds too that are ready to rip some Kruleboyz apart when they get their beaks into them!
You'll also be able to ride into battle on the back of a Stormstrike Chariot which comes with two crew who are armed with a bow and axe/spear.
Stormstrike Chariot // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
A cool addition to the army which continues that trend towards that more Classical/Ancient look. Some pretty awesome miniatures for Stormcast Eternals collectors although I would say that their range is pretty darn well catered for!
The Kruleboyz Are Comin'!
The forces of Destruction are now bowing down to the might of Kragnos and so a new breed of Orruk has crawled out of the swamps of Ghur. Whilst the forces of the Ironjawz might serve almighty Gork, these Orruks are more cunning than that and fight for Mork's glory.
Killaboss On Great Gnashtoof // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
This new sub-faction for Destruction can be led by the likes of the Killaboss On Great Gnashtoof. As you can see, these are more "lithe" looking greenskins which have a little more of the Grot about them than their larger and bulkier brothers in arms.
There is a really distinct aesthetic to these new Orruks which moves more towards the designs that you might be familiar with from the Peter Jackson Hobbit movies.
Swampcalla Shaman With Pot Grot // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
I can certainly see more of the Azog in these miniatures than your traditional Orcs of Warhammer Fantasy. As this is the first reveal of their army, we get a lot of different characters in the Dominion set including the Shaman above and the likes of the Killaboss on foot.
Killaboss With Stab-Grot // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
I like the addition of more Grots into this force and I know a lot of people are already very much in love with the Stab-Grot. You'll also note those shields they're all using. It's very much a call back to the old shields that we used to see on classic Orcs but they also represent each Orruk that carries them into battle.
This particular miniature speaks to their swampy origins too.
Murknob With Belcha-Banna // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The Murknob carries a banner that has the pinned tongue of a swamp beast lashed to it. This allows it to spew forth noxious fog and more across the battlefield concealing their approach. It also shows the hierarchy of the Kruleboyz clans. On top you have Kragnos (of course), followed by the Orruks and then the Grots at the very bottom.
New Kruleboyz Units
It's not all characters though. The Kruleboyz also got access to some new units like the stabby Gutrippaz.
Gutrippaz // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Whilst most of their bigger brothers in arms would just charge headlong into battle, the Gutrippaz actually taunt their enemies so they can draw them into ambushes. They really have got a lot of Mork running through their veins.
Maybe you could even draw them into the crossfire of one of your Man-Skewer Boltboyz units?
Man-Skewer Boltboyz // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The Boltboyz are able to choose between two different firing modes when in battle. They can either go for a quick volley or take their time and snipe their targets with more deadly bolts.
The last unit for the Kruleboyz in the box is the Hobgrot Slittaz which are very cool indeed. If we weren't going to get Fimir then I was hoping for Hobgoblins!
Hobgrot Slittaz // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
These warriors scamper around the battlefield looking to shank those who are within an inch of death. They make a great screening unit too if you want to throw someone under the bus. Don't count them out completely though as they come armed with some nasty grenades which they received from an unknown patron.
It's Chaos Duardin, right? It has to be Chaos Duardin. Hobgoblins have always been attached to them in the lore of Warhammer Fantasy Battles so it makes sense to carry that through into The Mortal Realms.
Upcoming Kruleboyz Miniatures
That brings the Kruleboyz units from the Dominion set together but there are also some new releases for them coming soon after too.
Beast-Skewer Killbow // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The nasty Beast-Skewer Killbow is an upgraded version of the ones that the foot troops carry. This is operated by a team of Grots and one Orruk who uses this to pin down large beasts and cause havoc amongst the enemy army.
They also have this very impressive miniature, the Breka-Boss On Mirebrute Troggoth!
Breaka-Boss On Mirebrute Troggoth // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Again, I really like the idea behind the miniature and think that it would be impressive to field on the tabletop. The gut plate is a nice addition to the miniature and I like the character they've managed to bake into the "rider" and his mount. Again, very Peter Jackson's Hobbit in many regards.
The Dominion Boxed Set
All of this comes together as part of the Dominion Boxed Set that you see below (bar the future releases of course).
Dominion Boxed Set // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
So, that's two full armies which you could split with a friend if you were so inclined. You also get that new Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Rulebook with its Limited Edition cover.
Limited Edition Core Book // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
This comes with all of the updated lore and more that you'll need when diving into the game. Considering they've said this is the best version of the game yet and it comes with tweaked and refined rules, one would hope that it's a good'un. They've also said that they've taken even more time to explore the background of The Mortal Realms to give you a good grounding in the game world.
You also get all of the appropriate Warscrolls for these units and War At Amberstone Watch which allows you to play out a narrative struggle between these new miniatures.
War At Amberstone Watch // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
It should be noted that Games Workshop said that they have made more than enough of this boxed set but that you SHOULD pre-order it to guarantee a copy. We shall remember that Games Workshop!
Capping things off for this pretty immense box, we also have the Dominion novel by Darius Hinks which will be available separately. So, if you want to do more reading on the story behind Dominion then you can certainly do so!
Dominion Novel // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
I am very much into the novels of The Mortal Realms right now so I will probably give this a read/listen when I can. It would be neat to see if it's all from the perspective of the Stormcast Eternals or if we get an insight into the mind of the Kruleboyz too.
Well, that was a long one. What do you make of the new miniatures from Games Workshop for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar? Will you be buying this new set when it comes out? Are you tempted more by the Kruleboyz or these new Stormcast Eternals?

Did they make all the 3d designs for the Hobbit Orcs and had to use them from these. I am looking at you Murknob I mean Azog no Murknob.
AoS Orks = LotR Orks with more bits tacked on … because that appears to be standard in GW design.
It’s like they don’t even try to create interesting stuff.
One could argue that this is the result of the sprue-requirements that are focused on monopose figures, but I don’t think so.
When there is the will there will be a way.
GW isn’t even willing to think different.
I hope it is just management that is holding the designers back, because then there’s a chance a few of them might escape and start their own projects.
We did get Beyond the Gates of Antares when Rick Priestly left GW and took up with Warlord Games, so it definitely seems like there is creativity behind the scenes, it just isn’t exercised (or if it is, it’s in the WRONG way)
Don’t forget ‘two thin coats’ Duncan as well.
Not everyone has the ability to excercise that creativity as they’ve got bills that need paying.
A job at GW is stable (or as stable as any job can be these days) and no amount of passion can pay for the insecurity of running your own business.
Job security is not something to take lightly … especially these days.
I’m lovein all the new figures after seeing the video I think the Stormcast should have been called battle angels.
I haven’t had chance to play Soul Wars box yet… just about painted and ready by time covid kicked off and prior to that I had trouble meeting my wargaming rival (friend, but rival at the wargame table) due to our days off seldom matching up. So I was hoping that the Dominion box would suck so I could just ignore it… but it doesn’t. Some impressive stormcast in there, but as with Soul Wars, it’s the opposition that sells the box. Very cool and cruel orcs that I’ll get to use in RPG’s as well as wargames. Despite GW’s… Read more »
Keep in mind that this is going to replace the current ‘Soul Wars’ boxed sets … so out with the old and in with the new.
Indomitus was never meant to be the default starterset for 9th edition, so they didn’t need to keep it in stock.
This box isn’t replacing the standard two player starter set.
Dominion is the AoS equivalent of Indomitus. It is limited production, they made that clear in the stream.
Like with the 40K launch last year, this is the launch box, the standard starter boxes, 40k has 3 different sizes so I would think AoS will have the same, will be announced later on.
Why do GW insist on this “early access/limited” boxset shenanigans? Sounds like it’s all going to be a repeat of Indomitus and the “limited/early access” boxset of the Adepta Sororitas (is Dominion going to be added to the roll of products by GW that just annoyed a fair few of their customer base?) Wouldn’t it be simpler to just release the starter set as a line item that’s going to be available for more than 10 mins as GW will be stocking and producing this item for years to come (as they used to do back in the days of… Read more »
Blimey. I’m really rather liking the new orcs. Good for the design team in going in a different direction with these. I say that as an Old Worlder who still loves his Kev Adams (and Perry twins) sculpted orcs but I’m likely to pick these up for other generic fantasy games.
I even like the toned down Stormcast models….I think I might need to go and lie down now.
I prefer the look of these orks to the more traditional GW orks. They look more natural and less apish.
The shaman IS brutal..oh shit..my wallet
lmao “Killaboss”
Those names are getting more and more childish. I mean those are some nice looking orcs but naming could be less childish than it is.
Pretty sure their naming conventions are based on what they can trademark these days, unfortunately, so after a while the good names run out. Just another reason to give all your characters names so you can avoid the slightly silly titles they have. 😛
Was really excited about this till the end of the presentation when they mutter those immortal lines, “we have made plenty of them” and “while stocks last”. After what happens with with the ‘Indomitus’ release it may be wise to jump in early before the scalpers buy up every set.
My local GW manager pointed out that as it doesn’t contain space marines it might last a bit longer than 10 min online but then again we can all look at what happened with Cursed City.
They are really nice models and if the price remains about the same as previous boxes we are getting a lot for our money. What is slightly interesting to me is how they have played this safe in AOS terms giving us almost a classic ork or hobgoblin look. A part of me was hoping they would throw in some Fimir or odd looking set of swamp beasts. Aside one or two models they did the same with the vampires it is almost as if they are designed with the Fantasy Old World in mind as a lot of these… Read more »
It’s possible they might not have the rights to use the Fimir without paying royalties. A lot of the really old lore belongs to the creators of said lore rather than to GW themselves and if they no longer work for GW or were free-lance at the time then they may have ‘lost’ the ability to use them without paying.
Oh look. Mystery solved. Orruks (orks with a hiccup in the middle) and the Sigmarines. Gee. A new combination never seen before in the annals of Warhammer.
Sarcasm off.
Some nice figures on both sides and some ” more of the same.” Then again, we could tell that it wasn’t going to be fimir since one of the rumor images had 2 eyes. And that they’d have to actually come up with stats and models for dozens of units.
So, now begins the wait for the new Stormcast units to hit Warcry.
Once I saw the ‘red sun’ ork sign in one of their ‘rumour engine’ teasers I knew Orks would get their time in the spotlight (again). However I’m afraid that the bits in the starter sets are going to be the only stuff that will be available. Everything else will be limited and web-only once that supply has run out. Same pattern has held true for every single faction release so far. GW never do complete factions, unless they’re new … and only for a limited amount of time at that. I wish GW would admit that and scrap the… Read more »
Just when I was looking at options for a Weirdboy for my 40k army, along come two options in the Shaman and the Murkboy. I’m still tempted by the Warchanter but these new guys are very tasty indeed…
Massive centaur lads and now (trademarkable) hobgoblins. Still no spiky dawrfs and big hats. YOU MOCK ME GW!
I’m definitely feeling the Stormcast burnout with everyone else here, but those new swamp orks are really quite nice! They feel more brutal and grounded than the more cartoony and light-hearted orks we’ve gotten for the Ironjawz and Bonesplitterz.
With the exception of the hobgoblins, I really like everything shown here. My son thinks the Stormcast are amazing, so they’ll probably go towards his army. The Orruks can easily be pushed a bit further into some grimy AoS28 directions with paint and textures.
Well these Orks/Orrucks looks to be taller than the previous Orks (did they just “Primaris” the Orc line?), so they wouldn’t mix in with an existing Ork army (if you where attempting to mix them in with the same unit). Now the Dominion Box set…it’s going to be UGLY. You can bet the scalpers/split sellers with have their Bot Software up and running. So for your best chance of getting a set it’s going to be sat at your PC (as you can type faster than on a phone) at 10am AND order from GW direct (as the independent retailers… Read more »
Hobgoblins are a thing again!?!
Bring on that Chaos Dwarf Blood Bowl Team!
The boxset should be called The “Baby Legs and Regular Legs” boxset. LMAO. I mean really that is all I can see, and now I cant un-see it. Baby leg Kruleboyz. The killa Bosses are the worst offenders of this. No wonder one rides, with those little legs its just easier. Honestly I kind of like them, otherwise. Need to see them in person to get a really good idea just how they look. Pictures dont always do a model justice. However, I do not like this “long waist” and “short leg” look. So if it is too pronounced then… Read more »
Can’t unsee that now, there was “something” that didn’t seem right and now you pointed it out to me. Does look like they stuck dwarf legs on an middle earth orc indeed. Was it the first day for the sculptor involved at work perhaps with new CAD software and he/she messed up with the scaling? Now you said that, I wouldn’t be able to buy them (I’ll just stick to the old “comic” stylings of the older Orc lines instead, you can still use the old 40K orcs as fantasy/old world Orcs so there still load available via ebay) 🙂
I think they’ve tried to very closely “ape” the proportions of Chimpanzees – the shorter legs, posture, slimmer shoulders. Google “chimpanzee standing” https://www.ardeaprints.com/chimpanzee-standing-1318481.html and you’ll see lots of imagery that really feels close to what the designers have gone for.
On the Orcs, I think it works really well, but I agree that the Hobgoblins have taken the stunted proportions perhaps too far.
Orcs are a big improvement!
