A New Edition Of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar On The Cards
May 10, 2021 by brennon
Alas, Saturday was not a day to get excited about 10mm Warmaster-esque Warhammer Fantasy Battles. But, it was a chance for Games Workshop to show off some teasers for the new edition of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar which is coming up later this year.

The newest take on Warhammer Age Of Sigmar follows on from the end of the Soul War and the culmination of the Broken Realms series. With the rise of Kragnos, an old god born anew, and Be'lakor disrupting the very nature of the realms, Sigmar has had to call on new allies in order to win back the realms from the forces of Chaos.
As mentioned in the video above, the team at Games Workshop are going to aim to produce a version of the game that is as tight and fun to play as possible. As well as mechanical changes which are set to make the game more fun to dive into, the new edition of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar will also feature a new breed of Stormcast Eternals.
New Stormcast Eternal Celestant
Leading the way is Yndrasta, The Celestial Spear. Sigmar has many champions with the Celestant Prime being the bearer of Ghal Maraz and his representative on the battlefield. Yndrasta is similar in power to the Celestant Prime and is now leading a new vanguard of Stormcast Eternals into battle.
Yndrasta, The Celestial Spear // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
The Stormcast Eternals of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar have always had that heavenly quality to them, sent down by a god on crackling streaks of lightning to do battle with the forces of darkness. Yndrasta takes things to another level and really hammers home that angelic quality to them as a faction.
Yndrasta, The Celestial Spear // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
She carries brutal new weapons which are forged to hunt down and slay massive monsters and she wears a new suit of armour that has a stronger connection to the realm of Azyr. I think she looks bloomin' awesome as a miniature and I can see a lot of people being eager to start up a new Stormcast Eternals army just because of her!
Also, I really like the addition of that mutated and very strange looking squirrel on the back of her base. I need to know what one of those is so that I can take it as a wizard's familiar in a roleplaying game in the future!
New Stormcast Eternal Warriors!
In addition to the new Celestant, we also have some new miniatures. Not all souls of fallen Stormcast are making it back to Azyr thanks to the scheming of Be'lakor and so Grungni, Sigmar's Duardin buddy has forged him some new armour in which to send his Stormcast Eternals into battle.
Stormcast Eternals Vindictor // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Vindictors now serve as the rank and file of a new Chamber that fights for Sigmar against the forces of Chaos. Their armour is more attuned to Azyr making their trip back to the celestial realm a little more certain. That doesn't mean that they will always get home but it gives them much more of a fighting chance.
Stormcast Eternals Vindictors // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
I've always liked the look of the Stormcast Eternals as these heavily armoured paladins but I think the Vindictors turn things up a notch. I like the sleeker armour design and the addition of that scalemail into the equation. The spear and shield combination also gives them an almost phalanx/hoplite feel with the masked helmets evoking classical Greek and Roman heroes. It's very cool and I could see it looking fantastic when ranked up on the tabletop.
That's not all though. We also got a look at some of the heavy hitters that Sigmar is sending into the fray. Here we have one of the Annihilators.
Annihilators // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Going full Thor with those crackling hammers and carrying immense shields, these Annihilators look like the Terminators of The Mortal Realms. Much like with the Vindictors, I think these fellows look absolutely amazing and I can't wait to see them in more artwork doing their thing. It might all be very over-the-top but then again that's why a lot of people love Warhammer Age Of Sigmar.
A New Foe - The Fimir Are Coming?
As we talk about artwork, it's worth showing off the new cover of the upcoming Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Rulebook for the new edition.
Rulebook Art // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Again, I am sold. It has the look of High Fantasy and epic heroics that we've come to know from The Mortal Realms whilst also very much drawing on that grimdark heart that beats in the chest of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. I'm sure plenty of people are getting a very Inferno vibe from this as a character descends into the heart of chaos.
As well as gribbly monsters, we also got a tease of the foe that the Stormcast Eternals are going to be fighting in the realm of Ghur.
Beware The Swamps Of Ghur // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
Is it time for the Fimir to make their appearance? The mention of swamps and fens would certainly fit with these strange and eldritch beasts from the dark corners of Warhammer lore. We've already seen the cyclopean Fomoroid presented as part of Warcry and so it wouldn't be too much of a leap for them to sneak their way into the game in greater numbers.
I think Games Workshop might take some time to tweak their lore, especially certain elements of it, but in the main, I could see it being a fun new way to introduce a race of terrifying enemies for the Stormcast Eternals to face in that new Starter Set.
Are you excited about the new edition of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar?

Those new space marines look nice.
ha ha classic!
Actually GW started the joke…
Bride of Sanguinius.
To be fair that is a lovely looking model, I love the way they have painted the wings.
Might be interesting to see if GW go full Lovecraft with this new faction.
It is pretty stunning, right? I was thinking of converting her to a Living Saint for 40k, but she’d make a nice display mini as is, to be honest.
Great looking new figures an the battle Angel would be great in army’s for warhammer or 40K a great addition to the new Gaunt’s Ghosts when they’re fighting with on in one of the book’s
Stormcast with .. spears! genius!
These new Stormcast look nice and I’m interested in how many Yndrasta will be made into Celextine or something else
Oh those are just more Sigmarines. Yndrasta is only one from those that stands out.
I think this is GW being nice. Now we can use the same minis in both games 🙂
GW must have a very slow spy in my house as ever since 3rd edition ive wanted Fimir to comeback, always set up just patches of fog and prior to the battle let a middle man know what was in each patch to match the lore. In them days you had to get within 12 inches to positively identify the type within the fog and by then it was sometimes too late as only then would the fog clear and you saw what you were gonna be fighting. hours of fun making unit sized fog patches with my ankle biter… Read more »
So instead of doing away from the double turn, they are doubling down on it and making it even better?
There would have to be something spectacular in the new age of sigmar box to get me to buy it. More rank and file stormcast is dull… every big box by GW has to have space marines or fantasy space marines. Persoanlly I’d like to see a Cities of Sigmar force… a mix of aelves, duardin and humans… but that is very unlikely. I picked up the Soul Wars box for the Nighthaunt. The rule book is just fluff text… not important to me for a skirmish game… In my opinion the Warmachine/Hordes fluff is far more interesting… but equally… Read more »
Sigmarines make perfect sense from a 40k Lore perspective. In the original 40k Rogue Trader rulebook we were encouraged to mix in our fantasy figures for skirmish battles. It was clearly implied that Old Hammer and 40k were set in the same universe. 🙂
Oh the good old days of Rogue Trader… it was so much fun getting to mix and match with all the crazy forces you could put together!
I have never been a big fan of wings on models but it is a really nice model it is a pretty interesting female head very different to the sisters of battle ones. The rest of the stormcast is an improvement on the older models I am still not stuck on the faces or the lore behind them. It will be interesting to see what models they put in the box. If you look at the eyes in both pairs and single I think we have two type of enemy. I think we migth see a return of the Fimir… Read more »
Paint her red and call her Sanguinius!
Jokes aside, a really amazing model as are all the Sigmarines. Still won’t play AoS but might pick up the odd model for use in other games.
Yndrasta would make a really good alternate Living Saint if you dabble in 40K, or just as a generic angelic warrior for other fantasy settings!
This…really feels like they’re phoning it in here with the Stormcast. Apart from some new armor sculpting, these guys look exactly the same as every other Stormcast we’ve seen, and don’t even have any new weapons or anything to set them apart.
That being said, that new trailer about the fens of Ghur has me intrigued, and will hopefully have a good payoff.
I like the Yndrasta so, a probable buy for me and i also like the new Vindictors, a possible buy for me depending on a few factors and i don’t care too much for the new Annihilators, though i can’t quite put my finger on it…
I already have a big army and still haven’t been able to play the game yet since getting into it a few months before the “event”…
No boob armour or high heels and they have used armour panels to suggest the female shape rather than a weird form hugging suit. Good choices.
It looks like those are high heels.
Wow, the first female GW has made in some time that doesn’t look like a sack of smashed arse*oles
I thought these to be quite good, surprised me how much I liked them. Will have to see what the rest are in the box.
I guess they took the criticism to heart, those golden boys are much better proportioned and look like actual humans in armor and they actually have decent mix of women and men in the set. Andraste looks pretty neat too, much better than stormcast prime.
Releasing a new set of rules when we have been denied a years worth of enjoying the current edition in face to face games is a pace of change which is too quick for me. It is actually putting me off investing in further print products unless they support new models that I want to play (lovely though the models are). I will stick with what I have I think.
