Mythic Deliver Pulp Action In Reichbusters: Projekt Vril Trailer
November 17, 2018 by dracs
Mythic Games have published the new cinematic trailer for their next game coming to Kickstarter; the larger-than-life, pulp weird world war action of Reichbusters: Projekt Vril.
The trailer shows off the frantic action the game seeks to create, as you take control of a group of characteristic Allied heroes seeking to infiltrate the inner workings of the sinister Nazi vrilmeisters.
The trailer seamlessly blends animated action scenes with what's happening on the tabletop itself, giving us a good idea of the sort of atmosphere and feel Mythic are going for with this game.
Reichbusters generated a lot of interest at this year's Essen Spiel and it is one which we have really enjoyed delving into in the office. The game itself will be going up on Kickstarter come November 20th and be sure to keep an eye out for a Let's Play from us in the near future.
Think you'll be able to stand against the Nazi menace?

Still do not like the pose of the sniper figure, but that is the best boardgame trailer I have ever seen!
This is how you do a trailer…….outstanding!
Awesome trailer, can we get a series? 😉
Give us a call, Netflix!
Looks great. Well done, Mythic. You should have another success on your hands. 🙂
Well that’s my support gone.
If you’re gonna call them Nazis and theme the game that way, either don’t have any 3rd Reich war flags and armbands (they’re not necessary), or use the Swastika. This half-measure of showing something other than the swastika in that flag is just annoying and wrongly associates that symbol with Nazis. Stop it.
I would speculate that the lack of swastikas on display here might have something to do with a certain European country’s laws not permitting swastikas to be shown.
There are no such laws. They might not pass the censorship agency but that just means the game can’t be openly sold and advertised or might get a bad age rating. That’s it.
But then they’ll go to the length of translating the game into german anyway before selling it there, might as well take the symbols out then. Lazy, cheap, cowardly, glorifying the nazis but getting away with it. Take your pick.

thanks though.

No u?
There are a number of countries that still prohibit it’s use. I can only imagine it’s easier and more cost efficient to not use it, besides there’s nothing stopping you from painting then on yourself.
Such as? Germany is usually touted as the reason but the use in art is not prohibited there.
Prohibit may have been the wrong word to use but some of these may be cause for concern
Post–World War II legality of Nazi flags – …

Especially when you consider the definition of art is open to interpretation.
Also consider the ridiculous political climate we are unfortunate enough to inhabit, there are great swathes of people who get offended by and campaign against the tiniest of irrelevant things. Can you imagine the backlash for a so called hate symbol? It only takes one perpetually offended individual to see it to cause a cascade.
The issue wasn’t just Germany. If it was then a localised version just for that market would have been a potential option. We did our due diligence on what would and would not be acceptable in various markets and discovered that having the swastika would have essentially prevented us from being able to sell the game. It was an easy decision after that.
Then why not opt for visuals that lack the flag entirely? I mean even from a logic perspective why would the Nazis have their own flag as a rug they stomp around on every day? 😛
We consulted our Hollywood history books and we’re pretty confident they did walk around on it (and that people fired twin machine guns lol).
The Vrilmeisters were always conceived of as being their own faction with their own yet still recognisably Nazi symbology, even before we discovered that using the swastika itself wouldn’t be possible. That will become more apparent as the storyline progresses.
The game is clearly not historically accurate, so avoiding the use of the swastika seems sensible.
@redben :
I guess that makes sense.
I’m glad it isn’t a historical game so you do get a real in-universe excuse for the not-quite-Nazi theme.
I’m guessing there is no chance of a special Kickstarter only version with the ‘correct’ imagery ?
We did discuss doing two versions but it wasn’t feasible.
totally understandable, because it would have been a bit more than a change of cover art which is quite a bit of effort.
It is an alternate history/fantasy — they can take artistic liberty. Nothing about the game is historic, heck, the miniatures do not always have the correct weapons. If it was a historic setting, I would agree, given it is a made up setting, so what the artist and designers can take whatever artistic liberty they want. I watch Man in the High Castle another fantasy setting and just ignore the historic inaccuracies in the uniforms, weapons and flags and it does not detract from them telling a good story. I once played a video game where they combined the flags… Read more »
I think it’s interesting that the application of a symmetrical symbol in black, within a white circle on a red background appears to be evocative enough. It’s been used plenty of times in art ( e.g. Roger Waters/Pink Floyd hammers in The Wall – loads of them in a live concert in Berlin). In the last few years we see neo-fascists appropiate this style if not the specific iconography – arguably it”s that which should be constrained, not a symbol which for thousands of years represented peace and harmony across multiple cultures. I don’t think the actual icon matters so… Read more »
dammit, now I want to see the movie. someone get Netflix in on this please.
Great trailer, looking forward to this one
Amazing trailer. But isn’t that a lot of budget spent on 3d animation and post production? I love the idea – the way the explosions make the board jump is genius. That’s more than a few quid spent just on the trailer!
Because marketing is king these days.
One of our members of staff produces these videos. They re-use the assets which are already created for the game anyway.
That animation is superb!
Damn!
this looks a brilliant looking game.
Great little trailer, really have enjoyed (have watched it half a dozen times so far) it. Will be backing this, not sure which level will have to see what pennies are spare after bill`s have been paid. Roll on tomorrow.
I’m looking forward to this. I’ve managed to put a few pennies aside after completing my Christmas shopathon for the family.
Has there been any indication of delivery date for the project?
