Mantic Games’ Warpath Kickstarter Already Funded!
September 21, 2015 by brennon
Mantic Games' Warpath Kickstarter launched today and it has already bust through its original funding goal. They are immediately looking on towards stretch goals but lets check out the campaign as a whole first. See what you think...
The Factions
The game is going to focus on three main factions at the moment. These are the Enforcers, Forge Fathers and the Veer-Myn which have each got some of the best model kits in the Warpath universe as it stands. The last Deadzone Kickstarter of course helped bring some hard plastic sprue kits to all three factions too...
Each of these armies has its own way of playing and can be scaled between their Firefight game, a smaller squad based affair, and the main game of Warpath. I really like the look of the Forge Fathers and Dwarves are certainly my faction of choice but it's hard to ignore the Cerebus-esque armour (Mass Effect) of the Corporation Enforcers.
The Pledges
There are two big pledges that you should be focusing on with this Kickstarter. The first of them offers you the rulebooks that you'll need to get playing with your various Sci-Fi armies...
As you can see this gives you three different books, digital versions of them, dice and the counters that you need to play the game. A lot of people have existing Warpath armies so this might be a good way for you to get those older armies out of retirement.
The second of these pledge levels add some miniatures into the mix. Also, rather than having you stuck with one set of models when it comes to armies they are allowing you to choose what you want.
This means you can focus on getting a pair of armies to play with a friend or simply bolster your own collection by getting a battlegroup. I could see merits in getting either of these options but I'm glad that they stay around the same price.
Stretch Goals
Here are the two first stretch goals that have already been unlocked by generous and very quick backers...
Of course being a Mantic Kickstarter this is most likely going to rocket up when it comes to the money raised for the project...
Have you pledged?

Nice. That game looks to be great
As soon as I have some money I will join in. I’m very impressed how Mantic evolved.
Money pledged isn’t taken until October. I’m in with an early bird pledge. Looking great!
I hope, however that Mantic get the delivery out better than previous KS. Still waiting for my KoW packages …
Simple pledges, we’ll presented. Good job. I think I’ll pick up the books.
In for the Advanced Warfare, normally go a bit mad on Mantic Kickstarters but I think it will be September 2016 before I’ve built all the Kings of War up that I got!
Fortunately I’m on hols for most of the campaign so won’t be too tempted.
looks good. it’s just a shame i already have the mini’s from all their other deadzone KS. but i’ll still back this even if it’s for $1
Hmm, I’d hoped to back this but there’s only one force that I have any interest in in it. Shame the Corporation and Marauder armies (either one or both) weren’t included in the KS or I’d have gone straight in. As is I’ll have to wait and see how the KS goes before pledging.
I’d have probably pledged if Marauders were included…
Hope there will be more new released models too for every faction, that’s part of what the game actually needs, not just new rules.
I’d like to buy some models to play 40K 2nd edition games with squats and orks and actually there’s not enough model choice to make for diversified armies.
The blurb says new battleforces will become available as the kickstarter progresses. Fingers crossed.
Is the guy who voiced the kickstarter video the same one from honest trailers?
Space Rats….
Pledged
Well good luck to them, if they introduce “the nameless” I think they were called as a faction I might pledge if they are lovecraftian enough for my tastes.
I’m in on this for the squat proxies!
You could just back this…

I only want the mass battle book. No interest in the figures and the rest of the stuff. I will buy it after the KS
Dwarves. In. Space.
Nope! The models I am not a fan of. And the whole 2 rule sets situation confuses me.
And another Mantic kickstarter! Come on dudes, stop using it as a crutch.
Basically, 3 years ago they released a ruleset that basically worked like their Kings of War system but set in a sci-fi universe, but people really didn’t like it. One of the main complaints was treating units as single figures (ie multibasing). Their reasoning was to speed up play by not forcing you to deal with individual figures, while their players wanted an alternative to 40k with no weird experimental stuff. Anyway they stealthily released a rules rewrite after everyone had made their feelings known and promptly dismissed the entire thing. Unfortunately this one seemed to do what most of… Read more »
I downloaded Warpath v2 rules and was pleasantly surprised with them. The activation system looked good, individual guys, squad based…i certainly hope Firefight draws on these v2 rules… 28mm mass battle is not for me personally I think mantic missed a trick on doing an epic replacement with the mass battle variation especially if they’ve already worked the rules. Nearly everyone I talk too that was into epic says if they could buy an upto date version today they would…
Age of Tyrants is supposedly going to hit kickstarter sometime in the near future. Looks to be a promising new 6mm sci-fi game.
Yup – they have a lot in common with Bolt Action (which everyone raves about). I love the rules, but my son hates them.
“There have been some other changes to make it more sci-fi, but in general the reaction outside of the rather insular Mantic forums is at best, mixed.”
That’s a pretty good insular bunch to have, if they want to pledge $171,000 in a day.
Well the kickstarter includes both rulesets. If firefight wasn’t in there I’m sure the total would be lower. Although I’ll grant you that it wouldn’t be too much lower. I’m sure people jump on board these things because ‘OHMYGOD SO MANY MINIATURES’ not because they are excited about a promising new ruleset.
Kickstarter is an enabler, not a crutch. Creating whole miniature lines and games is expensive and the only other two ways to raise the funds in one go is to get a bank loan or go public. The two major drawbacks there is one saddles a company with a potentially vast amount of interest payments for money which would other wise go into creating more, the other replaces the desire for creativity and fun with the need to appease shareholders. This irrational dislike of kickstarter puzzles me. But then I remember this is the internet and people get pissy about… Read more »
Completely agree with you. Its just a shame that so many run away from logic as its some kind of witchcraft… 🙁
Personally I think id rather a company used crowd funding cause thats what KS essentially is over a more traditional business model if it keeps the company in touch with its customers. Better they ask the customer for funding for a new project over a bank. Keeps their loan repayment’s down and cheaper minis for the rest of us. I say this because I thought about the ongoing use of KS as a funding source too and thought well the alternative is most likely higher prices to cover the higher overheads for bank loans for funding new ventures. Personally I… Read more »
Well, I think I pretty much have a whole force of Veer-myn from the Deadzone kickstarter. I might pledge just for the rulebooks and any interesting character models if they pop up or any vehicles for the Veer-myn.
I might have slipped and purchased/baked this already. Hmmm so Enforcers and forge farthers or enforcers and ver-myn… the deadzone infestation kickstarter already has some ver-myn so I guess its more enforcers and Forge fathers then
I’m betting we’ll see some new stuff if this kickstarter keeps going =p
So… I was pretty convinced that Mantic and Ronnie were saving the Corporation (human grunts, not Enforcers) and the Z’zor (insect men) for Warpath… there was a bunch of discussion about this during the Deadzone: Infestation Kickstarter and how they didn’t want to do Human Corporation or another Alien team (besides Veer-myn) too soon in Deadzone because they were likely to be in Warpath… now the Warpath starter is out.. and it’s not Corporation and it’s not Z’zor insects… I know Mantic has figured out how to run Kickstarters.. so I wouldn’t be surprised if an all Corporation Army and… Read more »
Corporation is going to be the 6th army in the project after Asterians and Plague if the funding gets that far, but Z’Zor are being saved for the next Deadzone expansion, and really annoyingly Marauders are being left until the first Warpath expansion. Nobody knows what’s happening with Rebs though.
I’m mildly interested in the veer-myn and one or two vehicles but I doubt I’ll pledge in for this one. Based on what I’m hearing about a deadzone rewrite, less than two years after the first KS backers got their core sets, and about a year after retail, I simply feel like Mantic isn’t really interested in supporting and growing games for the long term. Two years isn’t long term in my mind.
I say this as a backer of almost all their earlier campaign bar Mars Attacks, which is the one I wish I had done in retrospect.
I have to say the more Mantic grows the more it seems to be the company offering to fill the Sci-Fi and fantasy void I have been looking for. Affordable, collectable miniatures with what I am told is a robust gaming system. This might just be my very first KS investment 🙂
@obisidan3d, I think this actually shows how much they do support their game systems! Deadzone was perfectly playable but over time it became clear it had a couple of gremlins in, the new DZ is supposed to be more streamlined and to have ironed out some of the balance issues that had arisen. Certain other companies are happy to let these things sit until that particular book is die for a reprint 3+ years later, that really leaves players in the lurch. I think if Mantic are guilty of anything it’s spreading themselves thinly, they’re only a relatively small company… Read more »
While I like the look of the starter set I have no interest in a mass battle game, certainly not at 28mm scale anyway.
Warpath: Firefight might be interesting but there is little to go on and right now it feels a bit tagged on.
I wonder if they will do a Firefight pledge at some point.
The models are pretty disappointing so I will be giving this one a miss.
Enforcers and Forgefathers are very nice looking factions.
Bad timing for the Icarus project kickstarter, which seems a much more character led universe (I’m not knocking Mantic, and I’m sure I’ll jump on board too), and looks like it may not get it’s funding…
Just goes to show that we are spoilt for choice nowadays, and we don’t have the time or money for everything we’d like.
Those jetbikes though… superb.
