The pair show off the rules for the game and give you a good idea of how to play Fantastic Battles at home. It's a solid set of rules that should work for any army you could think of!
Which side are you on; Dwarves or Orcs?

@avernos where did Nic get the measure he was using?
I think he got them from the same place I got mine, https://productsforwargamers.com/ if not you can get them there at least.
Hi Avernos,
Where did OnTableTop get the mat you were playing?
What is the mat called?
Do you have a link for the mat?
hawker2000
it’s actually a Flames of War mat from Gale Force 9 https://www.gf9.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=6422 I really like it and use it a lot. so much so that hills and tree bases are blended to match it.

Great rules
Great to see some pondering and wheels being measured and executed
I can see my next purchase for fantasy rules as I have a large number of these in boxes ready to be based and painted.

@grimwolfuk
I’ve looked at these several times if not more but I keep going back to 10mm
The Dark Alliance have some lovely sculpts in the ranges
I love the Dark Riders and the Troll Catapults
I have come to like these rules more than Warmaster, especially the flexibility of troop creation. I have been testing them out with a friend for about three months now, and all things being equal, they are in my opinion a head above over systems when considering all factors – including unit control, diversity of unit creation, adaptability etc. I even prefer them over Kings of War (Sorry Gerry!).
wrong but I forgive you!
Jokes aside they’re a cracking set of rules with command and control and shockingly flexible for everything from fantasy and historical games.
Hugely enjoyable Let’s Play, great showcase of the rules.
Thanks, great to see this and will be studying this over the break. I have the rules and its a system I wouldn’t mind trying, but to my great shame until now it hasn’t clicked. Seeing a play through is really helpful.
A fabulous active game with plenty of toing an frowing in the game a fab gaming video guy’s.
Can you remember how many points it was per side
going to say `12
I bought myself Fantastic Battles as a Christmas present. I’ve yet to read the rules but I’m looking forward to playing a few games after watching this! Great stuff.
I accidentally bought a high elf army this week.
But will it ever be painted…..
I’ve got an old GW high elf army that needs to be painted. And a skaven one. I’m optimistic that the new Army Painter speed paint might start to solve this grey plastic problem when it’s released.
might get painted, I’ll see when they arrive
Have you thought about how you might base them yet? Warmaster rectangles or the squares favoured by Fantastic Battles?
I might be looking at a few ratmen at the moment and trying to decide which method…
squares, I’ve 60 odd 40mm bases set aside for FB with every two regiments equalling three in FB I think I’m going to split them into eight companies of bowmen, twelve companies of spearmen, then combine what is left to make ten companies of seaguard (spear bow mix), six companies of bolt throwers and heroes rounds out my ebay reward but I think I may have some cav and a dragon for the elves in the loft. It comes in well over 1000 points so I doubt I’ll be getting much in the future, I could even repost some of… Read more »
Sounds like a very well thought out accidental purchase! I’m guessing you’ll be basing four models per 40mm base?
I’m now expecting to see a project on the progress – with a battle report.
I’m just now beginning to watch the video, and this may not be fair at all, but to be honest, I really disliked all the dice rolling at the start. It looks time-consuming and extremely random and disrupting of the game balance, without the player effectively being able to do anything about it. It appears as though if one player gets unlucky and the other lucky, the game is mostly a foregone conclusion.
I think it trys to simulate not everyone appearing on the battlefield at the same time. I guess you could leave that bit out if it didn’t suit a particular scenario or just don’t like the rule at all
