Let’s Play Blood & Plunder: French VS Spanish
November 26, 2019 by dignity
It's Firelock Games Week here at the OnTableTop studio where Mike and Nate have decided to settle their differences over a game of Blood & Plunder.
Justin oversees this wargaming grudge match between the two from Firelock Games. Mike is taking control of the French Caribbean Militia whereas Nate is storming the beach and jungle with Juan Corso's Corsairs. It's a fast-moving battle where Nate must move out from the beach and into the jungle where Mike waits.

What's been the best battle of Blood & Plunder that you have played?
I’m the worst pirate you’ve ever heard of! And I still need to win that game to play it 😉
French vs Spanish interesting. The board looks awesome guys
My last battle was between French and Spanish too. Didn’t end as well for the French though 🙂
The foam terrain is perfect for this game for the cliffs and transitions from water to land. Watching these always wants to make me go back and play Sid Meier’s Pirates.
Curious to see what changes from this is Blood & Valour.
I love the activation mechanic you’ve got there. Most of all you lads had a great time playing. It looks like you have a winner of a game on your hands!
Wow! That was a slaughter! I was really expecting Mike to be in control of the Spaniards. You play other factions? ?
French Vs. Spanish is very interesting. I have to say, when playing Blood and Plunder I am more partial to Pirate type factions. The ability to use more than one faction models makes for a dynamic force (and great one at sea). If I had to play a land battle it would be natives all the way!
Perhaps I missed how LOS works. In the opening volley when the French Snipers shot at the Spanish on the beach, it seemed like there was enough in the way that the Spanish should have had a modifier for cover. But, maybe I am missing something.
There is no modifier for cover being in the way. The cover allows you to use your shoot save value(7+ on the majority of units) to avoid casualties. If you’re out in the open then you only cancel hits on a 9+.
Thanks for the response
Great game. Really like the way activation works and adds to the tactics of the forces!
The card system looks interesting
Good to see that gorgeous terrain set in use. And damn I miss playing Blood & Plunder, need to raise the black at the club again!
What a great looking table!
The more i see of Blood & Plunder, the more i like it.Trouble is,i cannot as yet get anyone else at my flgc interested.
Great looking setup…very aggressive attacking in the face of such a firing line didn’t seem the best approach 😉
Cool game… I liked the table and the forces were particularly interesting…
Looks like a fun game.
Such a great system. Can’t wait till my next game.
Great game – if the dice were a little crazy at time
Is that the Battlefront D Day mat I spy (looks pretty good for a Blood and Plunder game if it is), along with Lloyds “spongebob” terrain?
Pirates!
I must admit after watching the previous videos from Mike that I’ve been “re-educated” into the realities of the conflict. Previously I’d always gone “Pirate game, that’s all ships and boarding actions”, and I’d never thought about the more common land based actions. This of course opens up a load more colourful and varied units (like Militia and the Native levies), and make the game/period a lot more interesting. These series of videos from the Blood and Plunder chaps have probably been the most informative I’ve seen on Bow. Alas (like Kantor) trying to get anything not GW or Warlord… Read more »
Q: Why is pirating so addictive?
A: They say once ye lose yer first hand, ye get hooked!
Will maybe build a ship amd crew one day to represent a famous Swedish privateer… One day…
Why didn’t Nate take Lancers (or the naval version of them)?
Would they ride Seahorses?
