Launch Date & Miniatures For Warhammer: The Old World!
January 2, 2024 by brennon
Last week, we looked at the big preview for Warhammer: The Old World by Games Workshop revealing the first wave of releases for this return to The World That Was. Well, we now know that pre-orders are going to be going live THIS weekend on 6th January ahead of a FULL launch of the game on 20th January. Not too long to wait!
New Books // Warhammer: The Old World
Shop Warhammer @ Store.OnTableTop
Rather than rehashing the talk around the new Army Boxes and the books, you can read all about that on the link down below. Make sure to check out the details on what's going to be included in the books, how they work and what comes in those big sets for the Kingdom Of Bretonnia and the Tomb Kings Of Khemri.

With that in mind, let us look at all of the other releases coming up for the first two factions in Warhammer: The Old World. We start with the Kingdom Of Bretonnia.
Kingdom Of Bretonnia Miniatures Range
We start with a returning (and expanded) plastic and metal range that a lot of folks will be familiar with.
Battle Standard Bearer On Royal Pegasus // Warhammer: The Old World
Pegasus Knights // Warhammer: The Old World
Grail Knights & Command // Warhammer: The Old World
Grail Reliquae // Warhammer: The Old World
Battle Pilgrims // Warhammer: The Old World
Mounted Yeomen & Command // Warhammer: The Old World
As you can see, some great classic miniatures are returning to the fold. You get a good mix of both metal and plastic in these kits. As was the traditional way of things, the mounts were often plastic and the riders are in metal. What's also really good is that there isn't any "Finecast" in sight. Even older miniatures that were only released in Finecast are now going to be done in metal which is a big boon!
When it comes to resin though, there will be some Forge World Resin releases like these below...
Handmaiden Of The Lady // Warhammer: The Old World
Battle Standard Bearer Mounted & Foot // Warhammer: The Old World
Questing Knight Paladin // Warhammer: The Old World
Since everything has been lumped together when it comes to Games Workshop now, you will be able to find all of these miniatures in their section on the Games Workshop webstore soon. Additionally, yes, OnTableTop will be bringing the first wave of Warhammer: The Old World releases to your tabletops in our store!
Tomb Kings Miniatures Range
On the Tomb Kings side of things, a LOT of big favourites are going to be returning.
Tomb Guard // Warhammer: The Old World
Sepulchral Stalkers & Necropolis Knights // Warhammer: The Old World
Necrosphinx // Warhammer: The Old World
Khemrian Warsphinx // Warhammer: The Old World
Settra The Imperishable // Warhammer: The Old World
Liche Priest // Warhammer: The Old World
Ushabti // Warhammer: The Old World
Much like with the Bretonnians, you are also going to be able to get some Forge World Resin miniatures for the Tomb Kings. So, if you're looking to throw in some new miniatures alongside the returning classics, you won't be left out!
Tomb King // Warhammer: The Old World
Tomb Kings Battle Standard Bearer // Warhammer: The Old World
Tomb Swarm // Warhammer: The Old World
The miniatures are looking great and again, it's so awesome to see so many of the old miniatures coming back. With so many classic sets dropping for these two factions, it will be awesome to see where they go with the likes of the Empire Of Man and the Dwarfs (I wonder why I'm so excited by that?). I hope that the kits that they release find themselves readily available so those who didn't join in back in the day are going to be able to build their armies for The Old World.
New Warhammer: The Old World Accessories!
As well as the miniatures, there are also a few bonus releases coming up for those wanting everything for their faction of choice.
Kingdom Of Bretonnian Card Set // Warhammer: The Old World
Tomb Kings Of Khemri Card Set // Warhammer: The Old World
There are dice sets for both factions and a set of reference cards that you can use during your clashes on the battlefield. No need to flick through books with these. I would imagine all of these are going to sell out very, very quickly.
There is also this more general set. It comes with some The Old World dice set alongside two packs of cards covering Magic Items and Lores Of Magic.
Dice & Card Sets // Warhammer: The Old World
This is just the tip top of a rather impressive first offering for The Old World. Games Workshop have gone a LOT harder on this than I thought they would which is good to see. Next up, we need to just see if the game is any good! If not, you could always use these miniature releases to play older editions of the game if you have them on your bookshelf.
What do you think?

Both starter sets needed to play….around £325 to play a game…..
I’m interested to see how the Bretonian prices compare to Fireforge Games’ Forgotten Worlds and Medieval ranges
Hmm… pass. Not for me.
Rulebook and old armies first methinks… see where this goes
Not excited about the boxed sets, but looking forward to play the game with other armies.
Bit strange that most of the new models are NOT included in the boxed set.
I am happy the fantasy is back and I can finish off a Bertonian Army I started 30 odd years ago. The boxset is a lot of money but you get a lot of mini’s in that set. With the 10-20% discount from local stores the models are less than 2 pounds each. You get 1,250 point army in these boxes. That seems a good basis for a starting force to play with at that points level. Then you add maybe an extra unit and couple of heros plus magic and gear it would not take much to get to… Read more »
Not every store offers discounts. Especially on GW product.
My wallet wants to know if I’ll be able to preorder these from yourselves?
Store.OnTableTop will have pre-orders open for a lot of the launch line (so the army boxes and books etc) but some of the miniatures like those above might be direct only from GW.
Not going back…
This still feels like a “win back some praise with minimal effort” type cash grab.
I’ll stick with Warmaster, thanks.
I see a lot of people are not very excited. That’s a shame.
I am very excited.
It is great that they start with Tomb Kings and Bretonians.
These are two armies my brother and I never got into.
So a Great new starting point for us.
It is great that with the Old miniatures they are probably keeping to the same scale.
I was worried that they would go bigger like Age of Sigmar.
Now we can keep playing our old armies as well.
Great. Can’t wait.
The only model of this range I’ve seen so far that looks tempting is the Prophetess on Unicorn. Might have to get that one if she’s not too horribly overpriced.
Love the way they painted her to look like a Meissner porcelain figurine, very, very bright white with barely any shading. I’m kinda hoping this may signal the end of the black primer era.
