Miniature Wargaming The Movie Kickstarter Is Live Now!
June 27, 2016 by brennon
We've been following these folks for a while now and it's great to see Miniature Wargaming: The Movie, back on Kickstarter looking for additional funding to help them finish off the project. This is a grand undertaking and we can see it being a neat window into the lives of those who love tabletop games...
The film is going to be following the history of Miniature Wargaming as a hobby and a craft from the view point of those within the industry and those that play the games - more often than not there is a crossover!
Famous Faces
It will feature interviews with many different companies and individuals giving you an insight into the world.
They have also had plenty of help from a whole range of different companies who have come on to talk about their life within the hobby and where it's gone. They will even be following the exploits of two tournament gamers as they head off to challenge others with dice and tape measure in hand.
Of course the movie is going to be available in a range of different formats but the big one is the Special Edition version which you see at the top of the page.
Special Edition Models
This will come with some very nicely sculpted miniatures which you can add to your collection including...
That's a fair bit of metal for you to be working through as you watch the movie in the background. As mentioned before they are going on quite the journey here exploring all manner of different things.
Funding The Movie
The campaign itself is looking to fund a number of different things and this will include...
- Licenses
- Post-Production Editing
- Wages
- Travel Expenses
- Film Festivals
- Film Premier Costs
- ...and of course creating the end product for you in physical form!
We'll have an interview with Joseph Piddington from the team on The Weekender soon so watch out for that to get a bit more information on how this all came to be and where they hope it will head in the future.
Will you be keeping up to date with where this is heading?
Having spent a little time with Joe chatting about the movie, I really am looking forward to the 4 human stories he has threaded through this. Two in particular hold real interest for me 🙂
Tell more at the weekend…
More shots of me playing with Aneira Im afraid……..
I am at a quandary here. I want this to be so bloody much, having gamed between myself and Steve well over a century and played just about anything you would care to mention. I am looking forwards to this I am worrying also, that the wargaming hobby, may well receive another hit from a product that has so much to put across and fails to deliver. Let us be in no mistake here I am wanting this to deliver I want it to be the best and beyond that a screaming success. There is of course a doubt, this… Read more »
It’s one of those things @chrisg that unfortunately the makes will never be able to include everything or please everybody, ultimately they can only do their best and make a movie they love (because they are the ones who have to stand over it and watch it about 100 times at all the film festivals etc) As important as the history of our industry is, I get the feeling there is a very much contemporary story to be told here and while I’m interested in the ‘factual’ side, I only really started to engage with this project when I realised… Read more »
I’ll definately be supporting this !!
Now this is a documentary I would love to see. I hope we get to see good behind the scenes footage of how miniatures are made and the thougths of how game design work. It also seems interesting to follow the four gamers.
I’ll be pledging on this one!
I believe there’s some behind the scenes footage of how miniatures are made on this very site 🙂
Nice guy, had a few words at the Salute meet up – so backed
yep its fantastic oportunity, for everybody, and there is so much going one that just cant be covered in one 130 min movie. also there is GW that never want to be in anything that just have to be skipped – shame. I met guy too and wa have been talking for at least half hour if not much more. fantastic guy with great ideas,
Stoked after watching the trailer, really has that king of Kong vibe to it, if it manages to get distribution could see it becoming a Netflix must see…
The tale of four gamers 😉
I wish I had the chance to work on this. From a content stand point, it appears they have handled the subject matter well, it’s easy to make this sorta thing cringey or not very representative of the wider community. I do hope the stories aren’t too desperate though, I think this will do well if it includes the “every man” who war games, not just those who “need” the hobby as a form of relief/counciling etc. Not that i discredit those gamers, I love that this hobby can help so many people in so many ways but simply for… Read more »
backed إن شاء الله
We will be backing also, it deserves our support. I got to talk to Joe at Salute briefly and he has a n incredible passion for this project. Besides we share a love for the same camera systems!
I too remember the Edward Woodward series and Time Commanders on BBC2, both of which I thought were excellent.
Whilst I would be willing to buy this just to watch it because it is about my hobby, I have not had the inclination to become a backer.
Perhaps BoW could look at doing something similar to the Edward Woodward thing now and again as that would be great.
Having been working with Chris for some time now, I’m extremely interested in seeing how this pans out, it looks absolutely fascinating.
