The Icarus Project Sci-Fi Kickstarter Launches
September 7, 2015 by brennon
Icarus Miniatures have launched their Kickstarter for the Icarus Project where you can get your hands on Starter Sets for both the Alliance and the Nexus. They're also aiming to unlock new races and characters for the game if they hit their stretch goals...
The Starter Sets
The two factions that are the focus of this Kickstarter are both the Alliance and the Nexus.
In the Alliance Starter you get a Gunslinger, Female Outrider (with sniper rifle), three Troopers (including one with a LMG) and a Female Trooper with assault rifle.
The Nexus Starter Set contains another six miniatures including a Nexus Assassin, Nexus Grunts, Feral Nexus and a Nexus Brawler. I would have to say that as much as I like the troopers from the Alliance the Nexus are an awesome alien race in design.
Stretch Goals
The current stretch goals are all lain out in front of you as the campaign starters too. As mentioned above there are some neat characters and more troops on the way...
If they can get to General Varakos with the stretch goals then I'm going to be a happy bunny. It would be interesting to see if his model is a bit more animated in the final sculpt or if he retains the look of the concept.
As the campaign goes on it looks like the stretch goals also alternate between the Nexus and Alliance hoping to flesh them out as factions.
The Miniatures
Everybody wants to know what the models are going to be like in terms of scale and Icarus have answered with this image below. The models stand a little higher than most standard 28mm at 35mm.
I think the models are looking great right now and if you'd like to have one for yourself they are selling the mercenary Gabriel Cross already over on their webstore.
If you want to try before you pledge then the rules for the Icarus Project are also FREE to download HERE giving you a taster of the game.
Are you liking the look of this game and its miniatures?

Another entry into an increasingly crowded market? Minis look impressive and good idea to have free taster rules to download…
One for the maybe list I think 😉
I like what they show so far. But I’m at my max in getting into games. There is a limit to individual games one can have before the wife cuts up the card. Unfortunately I’m at that limit.
@manpug exactly the same situation here
This is one of the coolest games to come around in a long time the one mini he has out is amazing. You need to back this great game.
I’m backing at £75, really hoping this game will get funded.
Tempted to put in for some aliens but the humans are too tall to fit in with the rest of the collection.
Pledged. BoW is baaaaa’ad! for my wallet.
Rules look interesting, one to keep an eye on.
I’ve pledged. The main reason i’m in on this game, rather than other contenders such as Infinity, is the miniatures. I’ve been looking around and waiting for some ’28mm’ true scale resin miniatures and a game to go with them. I’ve had my eye on Infinity as a game for a while but i just couldn’t quite bring myself to buy into it whilst its miniatures are metal. Whilst these are ’35mm’ they are actually the same scale as Infinity miniatures, that is they are roughly 1/48 and predominantly true to scale and realistic. They also appear to be at… Read more »
@totsuzenheni I’ll get some measurements of the Deadzone enforcers for you tomorrow if you want Thing to bare in mind (for me anyway) is that the enforcer and infinity bounty hunter are not normal human sized. The enforcer is supposed to be a mantic version of a space marine/ Spartan but true scaled the normal human sized minis are same night as GW minis but a bit thinner. And Infinity Bounty Hunter is supposed to be in Mobile Brigada power armour and their a fair bit bigger than the line infantry too ( I’m guessing the same is true with… Read more »
Gabriel is 6ft tall in the fluff and i have a vague recollection that Sun Tse was around 6ft too. I can’t find anything telling me how tall an Enforcer is so if you know that and have measurements that would be much appreciated. I’ve given up on GW ever having a consistent scale.
Hi the mantic enforcers are Restic 36.5mm tall and hard plastic 37-37.5 tall.
I’ve taken a scale pic and I’ll post it in my random sci fi log in the sci fi forums.
Good stuff. The Gabriel Cross miniature is 38mm tall.
Couldn’t have said it better! 🙂 Anto has always been upfront and honest and it is one of the core values of his company! I like infinity but I had to read the rulebook multiple times to understand, with Icarus I had the basics down within minutes but my main motivation nowadays is painting and their first miniature is pretty damn good!
Im in! i hope they go far!.
as @totsuzenheni said, the Gabriel Cross mini is very nice. Also got a nice written “Thank You” from Antony. I wish them luck, and hope they make it!
The scale is a slight issue as often nice if they can be used for other games as it helps with costs, but biggest thig for one here is that they cannot be easily reposed due to the way they are cast in one piece.
One likes to both model and game, these are very nicly detailed just a little static.
Weapon packs, head packs etc. Are planned down the line, apparently. You could try the hot water trick to add a bit more variety if you wished. Also the minis shown so far are the more basic versions, the more advanced troop types have more options and are going to be sculpted to allow this flexibility. I think unfortunately with all the different scale options and styles it would be impossible to use these parts in all different brands miniatures.
Got my Gabriel Cross model today, and detail is amazing!
I know, so with the excellent details it’s a little intimidating getting the primer down as I have a notoriously heavy hand when it comesto spraying :p
Kickstarter noob here. I don’t want to be a downer, but this KS is less than a third towards it’s pledge goal and there’s just over two weeks left. What happens to my pledge if the project isn’t funded in time?
