This is actually quite cool, I could see myself creating all my WoW characters 😀
I see they do an STL option as well so will give that a go and see how well my own print comes out.
I did an STL and printed it myself and am very pleased
Looking good 🙂 . I’m very tempted to give Heroforge a go myself in the near future now.
having used the service (also the premium plastic) the only criticism i have is the material is extremely brittle drop it or to much pressure and it will break , yes they take some extra prep but thats really nothing when you’re getting YOUR mini.
I believe that is because it is resin.
What more girly armies, my mate Kevin will be having kittens!
Nice figures though, did immediately think Fabled Realms
Would an acetone bath work to help soften the stepping? If the fragility is an issue, would it be better to use the mini as a master to make a mold so you can make a solid resin copy?
It depends on the material that is used. That would work with PLA. I am not sure what HeroForge uses but I believe they use a SLA printer with a UV Cure after it is completed.
Great looking figures love the fact they can make personnel figures for the personal touch.
I was very curious about the quality of the miniatures from Heroforge. Thanks for this. Nice to see if I choose to use their services what I’d get.
Excellent presentation !
The stepping is easily corrected on capes and armour plates with just a little bit of fine sandpaper, keeping all the little details pristine !
I’ve ordered a few miniatures from them, for specific D&D characters (there’s a derth of gnomish and dragonborn miniatures that aren’t Reaper-cliché, so HeroForge was a boon).
They take the brush very well, I must say, and they keep adding new items and outfits for all tastes and genres.
Minis look good to me! You can see a bit of ‘stepping’ on the chest plates (bonus texture?) but the faces look smooth…pretty sweet!
I wish I could get some Goliath juves out of this but at $20-$30 a pop I’m better off buying myself an SLA printer like the Peoploy Moai or the Wanhao Duplicator 7 and noodling out how to get them working.
@johnlyons thank you for a great Vlog on a topic I’ve been very keen to hear more about. One thing I didn’t hear in the video (apologies if I missed it) – was this the “premium plastic” option you went for, or the regular print?
This is definitely something I’d like to try for the D&D group I’m running at the moment…
@georgesealy – he said he paid the extra to get the premium plastic.
My group has gotten several of the heroforge models, and we have also been impressed. When painting them up for the guys, I went sandpaper and then primer coat (spray can) and it was fine. Biggest take away I see is I just have to get a new airbrush….haven’t used one for years, but you have convinced me I have to add it.
I need to check the 3D print forum, I think I’m completely out of touch about the detail 3d printing can get nowadays…
I’m completely blown away by these John, really impressed with what Heroforge have done there. So much so that I’ve not got myself a young eleven female on order to lead my kitbashed sell sword/adventurer guild.
Thanks for sharing this 🙂
I loved the “breasts are round objects” comment – not a Madonna fan then @johnlyons
The self leveling primer did ‘er good!
I was not sold on this one but now seeing that I will send link to my DnD group.
