Is Games Workshop Expanding Warhammer World?
March 28, 2014 by dracs
It looks like Games Workshop are preparing to revamp Warhammer World, their HQ in Nottingham, as some plans have appeared giving this heart of the hobby a brand new look.
The proposed changes bring in more floor space in both the first floor and the main mezzanine, as well as new public access stairs and lifts.
From these images, which can be found along with the rest of the details at the Nottingham City Council website, it looks like Games Workshop are heading for a far more modern look for Warhammer World, which personally I think is a shame.
I love the medieval castle look that Warhammer World currently has going, and while I don't think this is going to totally disappear I still think it would be a shame for that atmospheric style to go. Though this may just be me doing a reflex reaction against change.
What is your opinion of the new look for Warhammer World?

Yeah but the current build was built as the ultimate expression of hobby – a soulless retail park is a much better match for the company direction over the last few years.
Shame was at the current set up a few months visiting friends up for a tournament, still a great set up
They better leave Bugmans alone. Bad enough they don’t serve the Belly Buster anymore.
Rumour I heard was a 40k makeover to the place, I guess that’s the game that drives the revenue train there.
I know, 3 hour drive and went to reward myself with a belly buster and it was gone!!
No more Belly Buster?!?!?!?! Well at least I’m spared the shock when I visit again next year 🙁
I have to say, the plans look pretty good. I can’t speak about the visuals etc, but the plans, especially of the 1st floor look pretty good. It allows people more access to additional store space, and thus stock, (if that’s what they want) especially for Forge World and Black Library, and gives people access to more display areas etc, although it does cut down on the amount of available gaming area
The building does look really nice, but I hope they keep the castle look on the inside personally….
If they’re re-vamping it in a more 40k like appearance, why the fantasy warhammer logo on the entrance?
Well the pics seem to hint that the medieval inside will still be there.
If they are going to give it a more modern/40K feel where are they going to get enough Skulls????
Well if they rename it the Burke and Haire room then we shall know
I think it could do with.. something. When I poped in I was supprised how the door was quite small and kinda oddly located for the enterence for such a large venue.
They should put in a Victoria’s Secret Boutique to attract more hot ladies to the venue. I’d be down there every week. Wouldn’t get much gaming done though.
good lord, judging by the pictures, GW hare now able to clone people. looks like GW are now after global domination 😛
Now after it? When I worked there 10 years ago their staff handbook had “Total Global Domination” embossed in silver on it….literally, no joke, complete straight face,
And now it looks just like any factory office in any industrial estate in any corner of the UK or most other countries. Corporate lack of identity… must be some new 21st century business philosophy…
Looks like they’re just surrendering 1/3 of their gaming space for a bigger shop floor with the store coming out of it’s little revetment and into the hall with a Forgeworld stand nailed on.
I guess with their lack of tournament support these days, they need less space in the hall to house what’s left. Perhaps they’ll move the figure cabinets from their current hiding place in the roof space, into the spot the store used to be.
Well since the sad turn in events of the last several years there in the U.K. It appears that gamers over yonder fancy the drama more so than the war gaming or maybe you gals consider the drama a vital part of the war gaming experience. Eitherway Games Workshop is probably pulling down the game tables and painting station. In order to build a TIKI bar complete with very fancy brightly colored drinks and a juke box loaded with Madonna and wang chung music. So you girls have a place to hang out and gossip while you paint each others… Read more »
“… as some plans have appeared giving this heart of the hobby a brand new look…” Please define “the hobby” in this case. Is that the much-vaunted “Games Workshop Hobby,” as their various rulebooks and periodicals name all wargaming in a propagandist attempt to brainwash their followers into believing that only GW products and games exist? Or are we taking it a step further and again implying that GW is somehow the “heart” of the entire wargaming industry? An industry, might I remind, that has existed in a codified form for a hundred years before GW showed up, to which… Read more »
y’know, looking at the pre-vis, I would say that the glass wall is the current location of the long south wall of the hall, so they’ll actually be making the space bigger, replacing what I have always assumed to be the location of the shops storage and WWs scenery workshop with these new GW and Forgeworld (and presumably Black Library) stores.
The new entrance extension is a good idea as the current one has always been a bit dark and small.
If you actually look at the plans for the first floor it’s loosing gaming space in favour of more retail and exhibition areas
