Is Gambit Getting His Own Film?
May 19, 2014 by dracs
When it comes to the X-Men there is, in my opinion, none cooler than the team's resident card sharp Gambit. So as you can imagine I am rather psyched about the news that not only will this mutant be returning to the big screen, but he could be looking at his own spin-off!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Raging Cajun will be appearing in the next film in the franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse, after which he will be receiving a stand-alone spin-off.
So who is it that they have lined up to play this fan favourite? Channing Tatum, star of the recent comedy movies 21 and 22 Jump Street.
Now admittedly the only movie I have seen that this guy has been in was The Lego Movie (in which he voiced Superman), so I cannot really make a judgement on this choice of actor. All I can hope is that they give the character a bit more to do in Apocalypse than he had in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Are you hopeful for Gambit's return to cinema? Is this the right casting call? Who do you think they should have got to play him?
Mais oui, ma chere!
Really like gambit, to bad the actor changed. I think it breaks the spell of the franchise.
Tatum has a few good movies, I liked ‘white house down’. So we’ll have to see!
It would give confusion as to how he wouldnt seem a day older, remember that Wolverine origin played in the 60ties.
I’ll just… leave this here.

Brill…I always loved the New Avengers…Pity Gareth Hunt passed away so cant play the role again
Lol
Well he was good in 21 Jump Street – but will have to wait and see on the Gambit front I guess.
Oh, didn’t know that he passed away.
I don’t think that he is good for this. I want to see Gambit more slimmer, more sly.
That’s like about Grey from Fifty Shades of Grey when they want that guy from Pacific Rim… misscast
Poor casting choice for me. It seems more about tapping into a certain market than actually being true to the spirit of the character. Tatum is a decent enough actor and I’ve enjoyed one or two of his films but I’d rather have seen somebody like Josh Holloway (Sawyer in LOST) bring the shady Cajun to life. The back and forths Holloway would have with Jackman would have been terrific IMO. Tatum is just too young and clean cut for this role. Pity.
Ugh, heard about this 2 weeks back. Seriously Channing Taters (he looks like a potato). Is it any wonder they kill him off in the first 15 minutes of the GI Joe sequel. Because he sucks.
I remember when Gambit was a new character, but I’ve never been too fond of him…
i bloody love gambit, hated the version we got of him in origins! hopefully he’s done right this time!
i know they’ve cast tatum already, but if they fancy changing their minds and casting norman reedus instead, i’d be happy with that decision 😉
Norman Reedus for Cletus Kasady AKA Carnage in the Amazing Spider-Man universe! Josh Holloway for Gambit, NOT Magic sodding Mike.
I read a lot of X-Men in the late 80s and early 90s. I’ve not been impressed by any of the films and I doubt I would go out of my way to see a Gambit movie. In all honesty, I don’t think any of the movies based on Marvel characters coming from other studios, are a patch on the ones made by Marvel Studios.
Actually, I was a big collector a few years back. With ‘days of futur past’ coming to the big screen, I started reading what I have, filling the gaps with comixology. ATM I’m at number 151 of the uncanny x-men.
I couldn’t tell you what numbers I was reading, but i do remember the X-Men at the time were based in Australia and there was a big story involving Mr Sinister as the villain. At the time Storm was the leader and was a completely kick-ass African goddess. I think the way Storm was portrayed in the movies was the biggest disappointment of all.
I wasn’t that fussed on Rogue either. EMO ROGUE! Bleh.
I think rogue was a mix of rogue’s powers and sprite/shadowcat’s young attitude.
The other way around pyro is waaaay cooler in the movie.
Storm looked the part, but had no inpact on the story.
Maybe with the x-men, there are to many strong character to fit in a movie. Maybe the origin movie aren’t a bad idea.
Isn’t the ultimate universe the basis of the movie franchise?
The Storm I remember had a big mohawk and dressed like a biker chick. Movie Storm looks like they just stuck a bad wig on Halle Berry.
Well, where I’m now, storm is the leader after cyclops left because Phoenix died. Don’t know how long she’s going to be top dog as cyclops just returned.
That’s in my futur reads.
