Community Spotlight: Freeblades, Wraithlords & A Gotham Croc
November 10, 2017 by crew
We've got some more fantastic work from the community this week as we delve once more back into the Hobby & Painting Forum for another look at your work.
As always we love seeing your work and it's always fun seeing some great models with fun and interesting paint schemes.
Haradelan Starter Set by while
Kicking things off we're looking at the work of while who has managed to finish work on his Haradelan Starter Set from the world of Freeblades by DGS Games.
The brighter palette used on the models is looking fantastic and I like the clash of different attire from the standard soldiering garb through to the more rough and ready look of those militia types. Then, you have the gleaming armour of the warrior at the back with that impressive hammer.
There's still a bit of work to do getting the shields finished for these models but other than that I think the scheme looks great and the painting techniques have been able to get some great details out of each character. The basing is also spot on for the terrain they're walking about on - which is always good to see.
Wraithlord by martin45
Next up we're checking out this fantastic scheme for the Wraithlord painted by martin45. It's tempting to go with one of the standard Craftworld colour schemes with the Eldar, especially with that lovely Iyanden yellow being a thing - but this scheme looks brilliant.
The combat green works very nicely as the base colour for the model and works nicely against the dark yellow/orange of the tabard. The subsequently coloured gems/soulstones across the armour work as nice spots of bright colour to break up the model.
You can see it more on the model from the side. You can also see the way a fade has been achieved across the armour plates giving the look of the light catching different parts of the walker as it strides forward. I also love the plain white helmet for the Wraithlord that dominates the centre of the model giving it a ghostly feel.
Killer Croc by doctorether
We're now going to check out one of the characters painted up by doctorether for his growing collection of Batman Gangs and characters. Here we have Killer Croc.
I think of the things I like most about doctorether's painting style is the way he manages to give colours a lighter feel on the models. For example, here I think the way Killer Croc's skin has been done is great compared to it just being dark green - it means he's going to stand out on the tabletop or down in the sewers next to all that murky and rainy terrain.
While personally, I'm not a massive fan of the sculpt itself (I think the face looks a bit dopey) I think that doctorether has done a superb job on the model, especially the aforementioned crocodile skin. You can see more of his work on the link above where he's painted up two new gangs from Batman 2nd Edition.
Batman and The Joker are looking exceptionally awesome in this face off here. Hopefully, we'll see more of doctorether's work going forward as he explores different gaming systems.
