Prepare For Pirate Adventure With Firelock’s Blood & Plunder Kickstarter
April 19, 2016 by brennon
Firelock Games have now launched their Kickstarter for Blood & Plunder meaning you can now get stuck into some piratical jaunts on the tabletop using a proper Historical setting!
Let's see what's available in this awesome looking Kickstarter...
What's On Offer?
As well as a range of different options we're going to focus in on what someone might want to pick up if they were to take a look at this project. So, how about the rules and one of the Starter Sets for the game?
As you can see this gets you one of the Starter Sets plus the Rulebook and the Cards that you need to play as them on the tabletop. You get quite a lot of miniatures here giving you a good starting point. As well as that they have some interesting Add-Ons including...
...Legendary Figures like Henry Morgan and Rivero De Pardal here. Of course it would be remiss to not talk about the awesome ships that are also part of this campaign.
I really like these three ships which are big resin kits with added wooden dowel and black cord for fixing the rigging. You also have the additional metal pieces which allow you to affix cannons and swivel guns to the sides of the ship.
The nice addition of the Long Boat also helps for those boarding parties you might be putting together.
Stretch Goals
The first of the stretch goals to be unlocked is at the 35k mark and will get you the Kickstarter Limited Howard Pyle Art Inspired Miniature.
As with most of their exclusives this will only be available after the project at certain events and special occasions.
Factions
There are multiple factions that you can play as in Blood & Plunder and we've got a little bit of detail below about each of them...
"The English Buccaneers were privateers (or sometimes outright pirates!). Usually sailing out of Port Royal on the English colony of Jamaica, these soldiers of fortune harassed Spanish settlements and shipping all over the New World."
"These civilian soldiers defended England's colonies in the Caribbean against Spanish reprisals and attacks by French, Dutch and Carib raids and invasions."
"These Spanish "Coast Guards" were commissioned to hunt down Pirates and enforce Spain's New World policy of forbidding all foreign trade against any ships encountered. Plundering all illicit trade, these where often little more than pirates themselves."
"Defenders of The Spanish colonies from all walks of life, these often poorly equipped troops made up for their lack of equipment with ruthlessness and adapting to their environment."
I reckon of the lot I would play as the English Caribbean Militia. I really like the look of them and like playing as folks who are a bit ragtag.
Gameplay
If you want to get a handle on the gameplay of Blood & Plunder then the folks at Firelock Games have put together a rather awesome gameplay video which you can see above.
Check it out and give yourself a taster of what's on offer from this pirate game. I really like the idea of some seamless battles between sea and land along with some daring raids on villages and more throughout this land of plenty of plunder.
Will you be giving this one a go?

and its funded! 🙂
yikes … that was quick.
Almost double the required amount within a day.
If they keep this pace it’s going to be a real Golden Age for pirates …
Can I get an Arrr Yeah ? 😉
Double the amount in less than 3 hours!
Funded in under 15 minutes according to their update.
it’s got to be some kind of record for Kickstarter.
I’ve only got one excuse for not pledging : no Dutchies, no deal 😉
(at least that’s what I’m telling myself … lol)
“it’s got to be some kind of record for Kickstarter”
Not even close.
aaarrrrr! I kept hovering over the gripping beast website and watching vikings trying to decide if I should jump into Saga or not. Now seeing the Kickstarter of Blood & Plunder I jumped head first in with the captains pledge! The dark ages and the so called Pirate Age are my favourite periods since I’m a small boy. Still not sure but the offer is to good so I think Ragnar and Odin have to wait. And I think I will upgrade the ship from a sloop to a Brigantine and get me some long boats as add ons…..damn you… Read more »
I love a bit of pirate gaming, been meaning to get into it for a while!
I was backing this but sadly the delivery costs to the UK have put me off. I know that shipping lots of resin is expensive but it was adding an extra 50% to the cost of what I wanted. Looks like I might have to wait for my FLGS to stock it instead.
I’m in for now as I’ve been really hyped for this but shipping is a bit of a killer for me too. I do worry a little about the ease of buying stuff post KS. Arena Rex is another game I’d love to play but it’s just so expensive when you’ve got to order it from the states.
Given it’s a historical setting, would it not be possible to pledge for the rules and pick the minis up from a European company?
That’s what I was thinking, however the shipping for the rulebook is nearly as much as the book itself 😛 The ships are really nice and seem cheap but again, once you add shipping I can pay a similar price and pick ships up over here. I’m not blaming them, shipping costs what shipping costs, it’s just a shame 🙁
One of those that I’ll wait to hit retail I think, it’s already well past funding so I don’t have to worry about that and I can at least see then how accessible the game is in the UK.
At least it’d just one thing you’re paying a lot of shipping on instead of a large pledge. Whereabouts on the page does it list the shipping costs? I can’t seem to see it.
They’ve built it in when you select your pledge.
Looks amazing, I’m in!
My poor wallet. … It will feel it when this one hit …. Admiral
I’ve gone for the captain level and will be adding on a starter set to make sure people can play me. I will be going for the English buccaneers and the Spanish militia I think. The shipping cost is a bit high but worth it since it includes customs,so no random charge.
