Exclusive! Take A Look At Firelock’s Blood & Plunder Ships
April 4, 2016 by brennon
Firelock Games have been good enough to share with us some images of how their ships have turned out for use in Blood & Plunder.
Set Sail Soon!
There are going to be three ships in all and they're looking great and raring for tabletop action!
The first ship (see above) is the Sloop which is the smallest of their seafaring pieces. All of the ships are going to be made out of resin with the rest of the components crafted from wooden dowel, black cord, and metal. The metal forms the basis of the swivel guns and the additional rigging options.
The next ship is the Brigantine which has two masts. This is the step up from the Sloop. I can't wait to see what people do with the sail designs for these ships and of course the fights are going to be intense.
Last but not least we have the big Frigate...
All of these ships are going to be competitively price to make them enticing to pick up. Ranging from around $35 to $75 in price these could find themselves on many a players table sharpish I reckon.
Which Ship Will You Captain?
This seems like a good way to go about making ships with a big sturdy bottom and additional accessories helping to add the flavour. With the rest of the components being things you could find yourself in craft shops repairs and additional extras shouldn't be a problem either.
You can get a feeling for how these ships look in the midst of combat when all painted up. I was afraid that the ships were going to feel too 'squat' looking but they really do take shape once you've got a lick of paint on them. Of course all of them are historically accurate too.
Packed with shouting men, guns roaring, the sea churning beneath them - I could see this making for a cinematic and exciting tabletop experience. More combat on the seas in 28mm is certainly something we'll have to look into.
What do you think of their ships?
"Packed with shouting men, guns roaring, the sea churning beneath them - I could see this making for a cinematic and exciting tabletop experience..."
This Kickstarter is about to make me break my new miniatures embargo in a very big way.
Miniature embargos are made to be plundered, pillaged and looted by new shiny trinkets.
And my balls will be torn off and fed to the sharks if the mrs finds out
Beautiful and cheap. The terrain makes me want to play yet another minis game… shiny treasure straight ahead, aaaarrghh!
Been looking forward to this for a “Very Long Time”, now i`ve seen the ship`s i need to save more pennies (or poss sell the “wife”, if any body’s interested that is)…………………..I do love her, but gaming was my first love.
Man, between this and the American Revolution article, it’s like “Black Powder” day at Beasts of War. I love it! 🙂 White cotton puffs on the miniatures table! And I really like the realistic numbers of guns on the ships, not the triple gun deck, 144-cannon galleons you often see in the movies.
It would still be cool to see a big Spanish galleon, transporting treasure back to the mother land and bristling with guns being swarmed by smaller sloops and brigs.
They look great. Pirates are the new post-apocalypse.
I am very interested in this game, and would love to jump on, but I hate being a broke college student. I love pirates so much, and this looks so great!
I guess the pirates arrrrh! back 😉
Oh and : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFSc275logg
Damn I need a few of those
YES!!!!!!
So rum and bones will be running the same time as this? So much piratey goodness. Been looking for good looking value pirate ships for years. Now it looks I have found them.
They are very nice looking ships and for the price they are asking thats a steal.
great stuff! I always wanted to create my own pirate crew with ship in a historical setting. If I get me one of these I already have plans how to customise it.
this looks really nice i wish i had the money to spare…grr
I really like the look of these. (But I really don’twant another game …. see this weeks Backstager …. why do you do this to me BoW ??? Why????) One of my favourite GW games was Man O War and I always wished it was larger scale , this is a dream come true
That ship looks very nice, I can’t wait for this kickstarter to start.
In true Pirate fashion I think I’ll start off with a sloop then see if I can capture the a bigger ship off my opponent. You do get to keep your prize surely ?
Giving your ship a suitable name will be fun
Swansong I think
The black pig
The Llandoger Trow (great pub, also was the setting of the real life inn at the start of treasure island, infact most of treasure island is set in bristol…)
or the obligatory Boaty McBoatface
Unfortunately the great name of Boaty McBoatface will probably already be occupied. However “The Boat formerly known as Boaty McBoatface” is available. 😉
They look fantastic, and the prices… They’re just unbelievable! I was expecting something three times this at least! It makes it an easy decision to succumb to the cult of the new, certainly.
Even if I don’t get into the game , I sure want one those ships to detail and crew . Maybe a walk the plank type diorama . And I know the perfect band to listen to when I get playing , Alestorm . Captain Morgan’s Revenge indeed …
Not only am I going to be all over this like a rash, the ship is much needed for my freebooters fate board
looks like the ships from Ainsty castings
Sold! How can a big clump of resin be that cheap?
I’m very tempted to own at least one of these.
And is it just me or does the Sloop actually look longer than the Brigantine?
Great looking kits and very much fair prices for them too. They have to put this out when i’m marathoning Black Sails too, it’s almost like they know! 😛
These look great and sound very reasonably priced. I’ve been planning to get & use ships for more than one game for ages, so I think these will have other uses as well as this game which sounds pretty great in itself.
Hope I don’t get my rigging in a mess!
the ships look great.
Are you ready kids? “Aye Aye Captain”
I can’t hear you! “AYE AYE CAPTAIN”
Oohh…
Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
“Spongebob Squarepants”
Absorbant and yellow and porous is he!
