Happy Sunday CoGs and OTTers!
Good morning and a happy Sunday to one and all.
Happy Sunday all ?
The whole terrain to terrain movement in crossfire works because it has interrupts and activations swapping from player to player quite quickly and it’s the core mechanic that the rest 9f the rules are bolted on to . There really isnt a turn sequence in the game For scouting why not bastardise Clash of Spears scouting system. Works beautifully but you could maybe only use light troopsand light cavalry (give them a reason to exist in the game) . Just need something rulewise so that the scouts final position on the table relates to initial deployment of the main army… Read more »
@warzan An interesting thought on movement but not a thing that I’d latch onto to make an entire game on. It might prove more interesting in the importance of choke points. Now leave all that seed which grew the fringe for the shrubbery out of this. @brennon Good work on baby trees… now we’ll be expecting the creation of full blown ruined temple boards as you’re proving you can do the basics. Look upwards to what you can achieve and take the step to rise or ruin. @johnlyons My eyes! @avernos Your work leading to other work leads the rest… Read more »
Probably. Maybe. Definitely perhaps
Was the photo of John’s East Germans taken during a game of Team Yankee?
LoL
In regards to terrain cork tile hills and brown and green felt fields and woods still have their place in wargaming
I’ve upgraded some of mine to timecast latex. But they’re always a great stand by and the range sell a4 pieces in the craft section so easy to get to
Happy Sunday OTTers and XLBSers.
You should call it MICKY @warzan ?!??
Theirs tablet’s for helping you with that now Warren.?
A chess/hex board could be the way to go guy’s?
Like the Battle Isle PC game.
Poor Ultramrines getting it in the neck again Grrrgh.
Ooh Floyd on terrain making?
A fab interesting show guy’s.
Happy Sunday.
I like my terrain to be easy to store and to cover and make a white variety of uses and setups. While purposely made boards look fantastic I agree that they’d get a bit same after a while.
I’d go with some sort of grid system, whether it’s hexes for squares. I’ve seen quite a few great looking tables with both types in the project system.
Also, I thought Warren loves mats?
he just says that to get them into bed

Yes it was their sat nav they forgot to update the thing before they left camp? @Sundancer.
100%
Interesting convo once again! A thought on the terrain to terrain movement and the need to get some risk/reward to stop abuse of the system. One balancing factor could be that if you want to make a scout move i.e. take a big run across the board away from your main lines, then you only have the ammo you can carry. You’re not close enough to your lines to re supply. So you might gain a positioning advantage, but you only get so many shots until another unit comes to re supply you, or you retreat back to the lines.… Read more »
Totally agree Warzan. I miss a real landscaped table. I actually like doing a 2×2 foot or a 2×4 foot textured tiles that you can rearange. That is the happy medium that works for me personally.Pink foam board is a gammers best friend! Dammit…… Now i gotta make a new set of 2×2 tiles. hahahahhahaa
Terrain should help you play a game. Not be the focus of a game. Plastic sets that collapse and store, or 3D sets that can go in a storage bin allow for almost infinite setups and playability. A large built setups looks great but becomes boring very quickly, and that takes away from my enjoyment of the game.
In regards to the movement mechanic. You could use the rule from Undaunted where you can only move to a spot that your scouts have already been to.
Warren’s comments about built-out tables vs mats reminded me of something. Several years ago I saw a presentation by one of the model builders at Weta Workshop. He was talking about the models they built for the Lord of the Rings movies, specifically that the model of Minas Tirith was just the right scale for Warhammer miniatures. They even hatched a plan at one point to sneak into the workshop at night and play a game on the model, but thought better of it.
Happy Sunday..game tables, sure Warren i think it was a cloth table mat review and put your made terrain hills etc underneath the cloth mat.
Overwatch is always interesting. My suggestion would be to decrease the efficency of overwatch the more turns that a unit has been on overwatch or the later in the game it is as people on stag or in an OP have the tendency to zone out the longer they have been sitting on an position or if they have been doing something before and want a bit of a rest. Haribo doesn’t eat itself afterall I’ve heard…
