Happy Sunday CoGs and OTTers!
I object to people calling them tabletop rpg’s. There are ‘RPG”s and everything else is just a computer game
@warzan Poor poor old man caught up as the ferryman for the source of his own demise. A tragedy in the writing for his yet unpublished rpg epic. Now, as far as rpgs I’d say you’ve described some of the game engine dynamics of the roll/keep system of 7th Sea and Legend of the 5 Rings that made them interesting. Good luck on the prewinter priming. Under the snow in your hobby hole piles of minis will be piled up like cordwood. @avernos Sleep, the soothing salve to the wearisome soul which is you. I believe that your description of… Read more »

A very happy Sunday to all….bit of a personal hobby update, while not a warhammer 40k player I’ve picked up the newish boarding action terrain set so want to start a generic sci-fi dungeon set up
Happy Sunday! Jesus that aqua man is amazing ! Thank you for the button 🙂 I’m gonna have to batch prime like Warren as it’s either raining or baking hot on my weeks off no middle ground .
Rules for boardgames don’t have to be “simple” to the point that only a few things can be done. Rules need to be logical so you can extrapolate whatever is needed even if you ‘forgot’ the exact rule. The walking dead had the ’50/50 die’ (black die?) that could be used to resolve tasks that weren’t in the rules. The illogical nature of the dice rolling in AD&D was the one thing that stopped me from understanding the rules and making them work as sometimes you had to roll over a target number and sometimes under and there were these… Read more »
Smelly Sunday! 00:00 Oh look, a wild @warzan appears. But it’s the one from the mirror dimension! 01:00 TAXI! 02:00 Like an old man? Mate: have I news for you XD 04:00 The word changed! 07:00 It’s Zombies!!! @avernos and I have a stack of those. Nice little game with a lot of minis inside. 15:00 Random maps? But how can you alphastrike those?! 15:30 JEEBUS @brennon ! XD At this rate you’ll kill Gerry 33:30 Water Cooler Moment. That’s a term that makes no sense in my part of the world unless you know it’s origins. Trying to come… Read more »
TORG had a nice system but instead of dice pools characters and major NPC’s had cards that could used to help or hinder another character perform a task or feat of derring do
Role Master was firggin Hilarious. My group would play occasionaly because it gave a few of them a chance to go fn’ nuts on min maxing character generation and seeing how many tables they could get thier characters to trigger. It was actualy a fun system for those that engoy getting together a spending 4 hours nutting out a 3 minute comabat. And the system did generate some suprising and entertaining results but it takes some work. There is a lighter version HARP (High adventure Role Playing) which tried to take the best of RM and remove some complexity. I… Read more »
“Powered by the Apocalypse” RPG’s (like Dungeon World, MASHed and Cartel) have this thing where stats and skills are given thematic names.
It takes a bit of getting used to and not every game is good at making it work, but the ones that do should be really fun.
Cartel : picture movie like Sicario and possibly Breaking Bad …

MASHED : not the tv-series, but the setting is identical

Glad to see Warren back! His ramblings are like a spiritual mantra for me. 🙂
Happy Sunday…..a Warrens back!..
My biggest thing with any game, in any world, of any genre, has to be a story good enough that I care about what the dice roll is. If you have to roll for goofy shit, it doesn’t really matter, and it makes future rolls less impactful. When everyone is up off their seats to see someones dice roll, cheering or booing, you know you have a good game going.
I always wanted to come over for a bootcamp, so I’m going to throw out the suggestion of playtesting Warzan’s dungeon crawler.
Now that’s a topic for bootcamp where there would be many a volunteer to have it whacked in their face!
