Happy Sunday CoGs and OTTers! On Epic gaming, I’ve loved Warmaster and Epic KoW, Epic Saga, Space Marine/Adeptus Titanicus, Epic Pike and Shotte and can’t wait for Epic Hail Caesar. That level of gaming just feels better for larger battles than 28mm. #D printing is new for my gaming group down in sunny OZ (the heat has been next level in Sydney this last week). Our first toe in the water has been scenery. Much of the stuff we’ve printed has been completely out of our price range until now. We recently printed several Star Wars tables. We also printed… Read more »
Getting rules to reflect a setting is always difficult. The issue is usually accurately reflecting a change in weapon technology and/or tactics. A man will die regardless of race or training if you stab, shoot or blow him up. A man is a man as they say. Recently an archeological group I belong to discussed the question of is it tech or tactics that change history? What would have happened if Crassus had taken long bows to the invasion of Parthia? Why did slingers stop being used in the Roman army? Rocks and lead bullets didn’t stop killing people. Cataphracts were… Read more »
Scaling to conflict is an issue to work out by your interest in scope. I don’t think you could well play Silver Bayonet at 6mm or even 15mm due to the nature of the narrative. It all works well for Legions Imperialis and Battletech for the same grand strategy and involved units but seems a bit wonky if you try to shoehorn it out of scope. Great inspiration on the Butt-dingers and I will be taking inspiration for future work from these great offerings. It all comes to a bit of life sorting and mental housekeeping. This community is great… Read more »
It’s the XLBS Show………Happy Sunday Fellow CoGs!
Love the thumbnail for this episode!!! It maybe my favorite of all time! I think I’ll print it to hang on the wall in the Studio. Yeah, it’s a keeper.
@warzan Toy soldiers for Christmas?..Seems pretty obvious your getting a Cafetiere to go along with your advent calendar
Do Your Rules Reflect The Period?
To paraphrase Sherlock Holmes. This is going to be a 3 episode problem
@Warzan Hopefully your new table will have a giant Helter-skelter in the Barrius Amusementarus and a Kelliatum rest and relaxation facility for the troops
Morning Otters/CoGs.
There is a dude on Facebook that has done a similar thing to that Undaunted with Heroes of Normandy with 15mm mini’s and vehicles plus 3D terrain.
What about a Soho Risk or woukd it be Soho Risqué?
Ok I have not yet watched the show, will get around to it later but on the subject of historical rules reflecting the period. Some do and some don’t Mortem et Gloriam Renatio et Gloriam Chain of Command I ain’t been shot mum General de Brigade Rapid Fire Barons War Are rules that I have played that give a feel for the period Bolt Action SAGA Flames of War Black powder Hail Caesar Kriegsmarine V Are rules that I have played that break that in some way for me personally. I will say that no ruleset is perfect, it will… Read more »
Muskets snd tomahawks captures the French Indian War really well at a skirmish level and using it for napoleonics itz focus is small level ambushes smaller areas of larger battles. Has to be my favourite blackpowder skirmish game but zooming out to the bigger picture you need smaller scale
Yes… yes they do.
Just a matter of finding rules designed to reflect the period rather than sell figures.
Happy Sunday XLBSers and COGz.

Ben is absolutely correct about using command and colours with minis , in our club we did exactly that we scaled up the board to tables of 8×4 and used 6mm figures to replace the blocks, looked so much better ?

Happy Sunday….
Please don’t taste the water under the bridge, there be trolls there.
What I don’t get is the “perfect information” we have in wargames. Sure, it’s convenient (you don’t need a computer or other third party for the fog of war) but hardly accurate. Additionally, as the Ukranian war shows, you have incompetent leaders on the battlefield, as well as political agendas overriding strategy, not to mention logistics and corruption. Of course, accuracy might take out the skill of playing a wargame. What’s the point of playing a game when you’re more skilled than your opponent, only to find the game system causes you to lose because it’s hidden important information from… Read more »
