Community Spotlight: What If…We Did A Whole Week Of Marvel: Crisis Protocol?
September 22, 2021 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Marvel: Crisis Protocol by jelosloth
Taking a cue from the recent raft of announcements from Atomic Mass Games and the big What If...? series which is in the wild for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I thought it was a good time to talk loads of Marvel here on OTT. It seems like our community really love these miniatures too and they do paint them oh so wonderfully.
jelosloth is at the top of the billing for this week as they have been working away on all manner of amazing miniatures recently. There are loads for you to check out as part of the project link above but I wanted to draw attention to a few of my favourites from the last few weeks. Who could not check out the Mad Titan himself?
We also had the impressive miniature for Omega Red which was one of the more recent releases for the world of Marvel: Crisis Protocol. It is a stunning paint job, to begin with, and looks like it could have been ripped from the pages of a comic (or the 90s TV show). But, I like that the project itself goes into a lot of detail as to each character has been painted.
I also have to commend jelosloth for the fantastic photography in their project.
It is great to get so many different angles on these miniatures and get a real good look at them. This really is a range of miniatures which are perfect for those who like setting up diorama and vignettes on the tabletop and they work so well with the big terrain kits from Atomic mass too.
Captain Carter & Hydra Stomper by jayadan
Next up, we're looking at some miniatures which were 3D Printed and certainly fit into the theme of What If...? Here we have the paint job on Captain Carter and Hydra Stomper based on the first episode of the series.
jayadan has done a superb job on these miniatures and I would love to see more of these alternatives being sculpted up by budding 3D designers. I think they would make excellent stand-ins alongside some of the existing Crisis Protocol range. Captain Carter could use Captain America's statistics and Hydra Stomper, the Hulk-Buster or Iron Man more generally.
Whilst not strictly Crisis Protocol, I think it is worth tipping the cap to these miniatures, especially with the amount of work that jayadan has put into the paint schemes.
Marvel: Crisis Protocol by chaosgorka
Finally, we finished off this trio of Marvel projects with some more of the work by the ever-talented chaosgorka. They have been working on more characters in their signature style and I purposefully pulled together the Asgardians.
I love me some Thor so he had to find his way into this collection of snapshots from the project. I love the more matte look that you get with the painting from chaosgorka which is very individual to them I feel. All of the detail is there and I like the harsher highlights in places which really make the miniatures pop.
If I was going to include Thor then I also had to include Loki. Again, a stunning paint job that looks right and proper for the comic book style of these miniatures. I love the flash of teal on the armour and that incredibly bright blue used for the shard of ice he is summoning forth. The muted gold also works well alongside the green.
Last but not least we have the masterpiece in blue and green that is Hel.
Again, a fantastic choice when it comes to the scheme and I like how even though many of the colours are similar, they feel distinct and well laid out. I love the eerie green power flowing around her and the harsh highlighting once more on her horns. She looks like she means business. The warmth you get from her face and skin help to draw the eye to her detailed facial features too.
