Community Spotlight: Warlords, Fantasy Footballers & Howling Wolves
April 24, 2019 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Forums and Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking pieces this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Werewolf Pack by miniaturebrushwork
We start off this week's Community Spotlight with a look at the work on this awesome Werewolf Pack by miniaturebrushwork, using the stunning Atlantis Miniatures sculpts. Check them out.
Each of the Werewolves has been done in a different style giving you the sense of characters from Fantasy and myth. Each of them has been created to be the wild, raging form of an In Her Majesty's Name crew member, hence the different styles of fur on show here. I think it's great and as someone who considered doing this to match my friends' Werewolf: The Forsaken characters I heartily approve.
I think my favourite of the three had to be this one here which has the look of a Russian wolf (or so Google tells me). I love the blending of the colours throughout the fur going from that off-white through to a deeper brown.
Even this one here which looks more like an Arctic Wolf caught my eye. I'm not entirely sure that I like the way that the fur has come across here, perhaps because it might need another wash or something over the top of it but it still gets a seal of approval from me.
I think that the big bases really help the miniatures and whilst they are each different breeds they feel like they've been bound together as a pack. I might have to pick these miniatures so that I can do something similar!
Guild Ball Players by innes
Next up we're looking at some awesome Guild Ball players which were painted up by innes in the forums.
Each of the characters has been given a really poppy look which brings them in line with the over-the-top style of the Guild Ball world. I think that each of their characters are neat as skirmishing and role-playing characters as well as for their game of choice.
I really liked this one in particular with lots of really good detail put into the face here as well as the dress, especially when you see that make-up/tattoo work. I think these would be wonderfully evocative once down on the tabletop.
Lastly, we have this fellow who again has been painted to look really dynamic. It would have been a little nicer to see this from a different angle so we could see the details a little more but otherwise, I think this is a great example of making striking comic book style models.
I think the scenic bases are again something which would be really good for tying together a group. I like that each of these features the water-filled gutters and the stonework as a counterpoint to the colourful characters.
Abaddon The Despoiler by chaosgorka
Last but not least we're looking to the work of chaosgorka who has done a sterling job making sure that this new version of Abaddon The Despoiler looks fit for a crusade.
Whilst we saw this miniature last week painted by another community member I think it's awesome to see an alternative take on the same model. Once again the work on the dark armour is really nice, especially when contrasted by the gold and the glittering runic sword.
There is perhaps a little more of a blended effect going on here with this version of Abaddon which makes him feel more like artwork than a miniature perhaps?
Once again, a superb iteration of Abaddon and a perfect way to start off a crusade. The sword is the really impressive piece of this model, especially with that drift between the different blues and that stark white used as a highlight.

Nice! Though I wish I’d put up better pics, the lighting in those is terrible 🙂
Congrats all, they look amazing. Well done.
Thank you. And congrats to the other projects. Great stuff.
3 more well deserved golden buttons, well done everyone.
These are all fantastic. Just great work across the board. I love the details in the basing on all of them too. Congrats
Three amazing sets of minis. I keep window shopping those werewolves, I ought to paint my Morticians and I just wish I could paint like that Abbadon. Hats off all round!
