The Umbrella Academy by ugleb

We start with a look at one of the fun boxed games from Mantic. Here we have The Umbrella Academy and some of the painted heroes and villains. It's always nice seeing someone crack out some of the models from a board game and this one has some really awesome-looking miniatures.

The Umbrella Academy #1 by ugleb

All of the different characters from the box have been painted up in a nice way. I love that ugleb looks to have worked with the style of the art from the box and such to bring the miniatures to life. I like the attention to detail with the colours and the good use of big bold colours which works for a comic-style miniature.

The Umbrella Academy #2 by ugleb

I've picked out some of my favourites from the project but you can go and check out a bunch more on the link above for yourself. I was particularly drawn to the finished look of Hazel & Cha Cha. These characters (below) look awesome!

The big bold colours for the masks are great and I also like that there are flashes of blue on their suits so that you don't get lost in the black! I think these are possibly my favourite miniatures from the set and I look forward to seeing them on the tabletop. I also like the blank, simple bases which work well for board gaming. They're going to get handled a lot so your basing material is going to go everywhere if you're not careful!

Greenskins In Frostgrave by warbossd

Next up, we've got a nice showcase from warbossd. Here, as if to prove a little bit of a point, we have an awesome warband of greenskins that have been introduced into the adventures of Frostgrave. I like seeing people make games their own and this tickled me!

Greenskins In Frostgrave #1 by warbossd

The main Wizard for the warband has come from the folks at Reaper Miniatures and certainly looks the part. He is joined by a pesky Apprentice (check out the Project) but then there is a good mix of classic Games Workshop miniatures in the mix to help build up the warband.

The painting of these is great and I like the paint scheme for the warband. I also love the little snowy bases that they're on which help to set the scene. Based on the first edition of Frostgrave, this warband has grown in number which seems apt for Orcs and Goblins!

Greenskins In Frostgrave #3 by warbossd

This is a solid set of metal and plastic miniatures for use in some adventures within the Frozen City and I do like that people did go off in different directions with games like Frostgrave. With a DNA that links back to the likes of Mordheim, there's no reason why you couldn't introduce the likes of Rat Men (Skaven), Dwarves and Elves if you are willing to do some tinkering. You could just use them as stand-ins for regular old Humans if you prefer!

HSM Starling by firelock22

Last but not least, we're looking at something impressive from firelock22. As well as diving into an awesome bit of hobby surrounding Cruel Seas, they also finished off a rather impressive (and big) HMS Starling.

HMS Starling #1 by firelock22

This miniature that was painted up was one of the most successful anti-submarine vessels of World War II and the Royal Navy. It was awesome reading some of the background to this particular vessel which destroyed fourteen U-Boats during its time.

HMS Starling #2 by firelock22

The detail on this baby is wonderful and I really like the swoosh of camouflage that you see on the side of the boat. With a good application of that slate grey and some spots of wooden decking here and there, you get the look of an impressive show that could cut through the water. The crew are also a nice addition to see added into the mix.

HMS Starling #3 by firelock22

It is well worth diving in and checking out the rest of the work that firelock22 has been doing on Cruel Seas. If this larger ship has got you excited then you'll be wanting to see some of the smaller bits and pieces as well.
