Community Spotlight: Time Robbers, Warcasters & Steam Dragons
December 16, 2020 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Time Robbers by wayneh0200
A classic band of Time Robbers which may or may not be based on a certain selection of well-known miscreants are first up when it comes to this week's Community Spotlight. wayneh0200 has done a superb job on these excellently characterful miniatures.
You can see what some of the work-in-progress characters look like over on the project link above but as a whole, this seems like an awesome set of painted individuals. I love their mishmash of clothing and those really characterful faces which have been painted in plenty of detail.
There is something fun to note about each of the individual characters here. I love the little map which one of them is pouring over and the bottle which is sloshing; full of liquid on the left-hand figure. This is a great set full of unique miniatures and well worth looking at as a project should you have your own to paint.
Aeternus Continuum by lawnor
Moving on from this world of quirky Fantasy we have an excellent looking set of miniatures painted up in a striking colour scheme for Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika. lawnor has got their hands on these Kickstarter miniatures for Privateer Press' new Sci-Fi game.
I really like the scheme that has been used here with that really dark armour accented by spots of creamy white. This is then made all the more impressive thanks to those glowing orange lines that move their way throughout their armour and across their weaponry. The same scheme works nicely across the rest of the members of this Starter Set...
This is an excellent set of characters and this shot of the miniatures reveals just how nicely that dark armour has come out. It looks maybe a bit too dark on the first image but here you can see the shades that have been worked into the mix. The orange lines also pop very nicely once more. I should also tip a cap to the work on those bases which certainly help to build up the narrative for this force as it clambers through a space station or something of that type.
Steam Dragon by danlee
Finally, we have something a bit different for one of danlee's armies. He is working on Dweghom for use in Conquest but wanted to share a large model that might be working its way into this force. Here is the Steam Dragon which was finished off recently which is a Titan-Forge sculpt.
This is a simple but effective scheme that I really like and think it stands out nicely. The metal has been painted well and then small portions of the miniature have been picked out with the gold in order to make them miniature look like less of a blank slate. The touch of fire and brimstone which has been added around the mouth with those glowing teeth and eyes really works.
I also really like the way that canvas has been painted which makes up the wings of this Steam Dragon. As a whole, I do like this beast but I maybe would have done something a bit different with the base. Obviously, this matches the bases for the rest of the army but it would have been nice to have something which made the dragon pop a little more.
This massive piece was actually printed out at 50% size and it's still huge as you can see. It does seem like a very fitting addition to this angry faction of Dwarf-slaying Dweghom if you fancy moving away from the official Conquest range.
