Community Spotlight: Tasty Purity Seals, Herbie In The Wasteland & The Eastern Front
November 23, 2022 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Purity Seal by somegeezer
We start off with something a little bit different. somegeezer has been working away on a project that is a little bit different. A cake was required and so they jumped in and designed their own Purity Seal that would adorn said cake.
There is a neat walkthrough on how this purity seal came to life over on the project. A nice bit of painting some sculpting and the use of a candle and some teabags ends up making for a rather awesome-looking seal worthy of the Space Marines.
The purity seal is only really the icing on the cake here. The actual main event is the birthday cake which has been designed to match a grimdark battlefield. Five packs of Oreos went into bringing this cake to life alongside vanilla frosting. Oh, and a Space Marine in the midst of it all. It sounds like a decision cake and I think the purity seal works really nicely on top of it.
It seems like a great birthday was had and this now has me thinking about what kind of Warhammer-themed cake I would have. It would have to be something Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Dwarf surely?
Herbie In The Wasteland by zebraoutrider
Next up, we're getting weird with zebraoutrider who has been working away on some more weird stuff for the tabletop. In this particular entry in the project, we got a look at Herbie who has taken a little bit of a journey into the wasteland.
The miniatures have come from a couple of different places. Wargames Foundry helped with the crew of ladies around Herbie whilst the car itself comes from Tamiya. The base that then sets the scene is from Legend Games and features plenty of skulls.
The entire thing is a wonderful little clash of aesthetics. You've got the crisp and clean look to Herbie in the middle and then the utterly terrible surroundings that Herbie has found themselves in. Still, it seems like Herbie is liking things with his new crew and I reckon that those doors might end up getting turned into something brutal and bladed.
This is a wonderful little diorama/vignette piece that mashes together some fun bits and pieces. I really like the little bits of dirty and grime that have been worked into Herbie himself and I hope to see more adventures for this adorable little car. Now I need to see Herbie do some Gaslands goodness.
Soviet Tank Riders by harry711
We finish things off with a look at some World War II goodness. harry711 has been working on a bunch of World War II miniatures but I feel like I missed the Soviet Tank Riders that were added to the project system a few weeks back. I love these!
A big grizzled tank that is covered in rust and looks like it has been through the wars is the way to go. I love all the weathering that has gone into the tank in particular and what's nice is that you can also see lots of little "fun" things that pop out. You've got the grimy red star on the tank's turret and the numbers that are slowly getting rubbed off.
There are also lots of bits of kit that have been added here and there. You have the bags and satchels that carry all sorts of kit and then the riders themselves who are hunkering down hoping they don't get picked off by the advancing Germans.
As well as showing off the awesome tank and the riders, you can also check out some of the neat infantry miniatures that have been painted up alongside the tank. The grim and dirty look of all of these soldiers work really nicely for the theme of fighting on the Eastern Front and it would be great to see more of this Soviet collection pop up in the near future.

Thanks for the golden button and congrats to my two extremely talented peers!
*blinks* Hell, have I forgotten to watch the XLBS? oO I haven’t seen these before so I guess I must have somehow missed it…
Needs to be fixed asap.
After dinner.
Thanks for the golden button!
It was such a great and welcome surprise to see you showcase my Herbie on the XLBS show. Again and as I posted then – thank you so much for the Golden Button guys! Much appreciated, although I’d like to acknowledge @scribbs whose kind words and encouragement got me to pick up my brushes again after a personal, sudden bereavement knocked me for six. Our ‘Halloween Challenge” kickstarted me (take a look at @scribbs Aboleth for his Silver Bayonet project– it’s fantastic) and as I reduced my own pile of shame, the Volkswagen model surfaced and it obviously needed to… Read more »
