Starship Troopers Battle Report by oriskany

We start off this week with a look at what oriskany has been up to. Most of the time, we find oriskany delving into some Historical wargames but in this particular project update, oriskany took part in a BIG Sci-Fi showdown on the tabletop. Dive into some Starship Trooper.

Starship Troopers Battle Report #1 by oriskany

The game was played out at the South Florida Miniatures Gaming Club and took the form of a Navy crash where Carmen Ibanez had to be rescued before the troops could get the hell out of dodge. There were six people playing as the Mobile Infantry whilst two players took on the role of the dastardly bugs!

Starship Troopers Battle Report #2 by oriskany

What follows is an awesome photo-based battle report which showcases the bugs swarming over the horizon and looking to bring low the human infantry. There are some excellent shots as part of the project and the captions certainly get a thumbs up from me.

You will certainly want to dive in and check out the rest of the project as it's particular inspiring and might get you wandering about staging your very own Starship Troopers game.

Starship Troopers Battle Report #3 by oriskany

Some impressive vehicles have made it into the mix for this particular battle report as well. It's not just the impressive bugs being all impressive. I love those big drop ships and it properly adds to the scale of things. I would imagine that you do indeed want to know more...

Snowy Dwarves by basicbrush

Next up, we're looking at the work of basicbrush who has finished painting up an army for someone at their local club. Yes, it's Dwarves but that's not why I picked it! Honest!

Snowy Dwarves #1 by basicbrush

There is a good mix of different miniatures that came together to make this Dwarf army. The majority are from Oathmark but there are also some older Warhammer Dwarves in the mix here too alongside some Atlantis Miniatures ones as well. All good Dwarves with darn lovely beards!

What's also really nice about this army is that it shows off how to make awesome snow bases. I am always worried about doing snowy bases but this project has made me feel a lot better about the process!

Snowy Dwarves #2 by basicbrush

I think it looks great using the big snow drifts and then working in that muddy brown underneath to really add some contrast to the miniatures. I think it helps that the colour scheme for the army is pretty natural as well which means that the snow isn't massively overwhelming but instead complementary.

Snowy Dwarves #3 by basicbrush

I think everything has come together really nicely and additionally, it is also good to see that the entire army is finished. Done. Completed! Getting an army done is no mean feat and this is darn lovely to see. Hopefully, this army sees plenty of play on the tabletop.

Warhammer Fantasy Battles by horus500

Last but not least, we have some more work by horus500 who has been doing a sterling job expanding their miniatures painting log for 2023 already. The 2022 log was pretty packed and I hope the same can be said for this year. We start with something ace though, Warhammer!

Warhammer Fantasy Battles #1 by horus500

There is a good mix of different units getting painted up for Warhammer here. At the heart of it, we have some excellent old Bretonnians with both the archers above and the absolutely excellent Knights Of The Realm below. It is no mean feat painting the colour on those Knights and so have to tip my cap!

Warhammer Fantasy Battles #3 by horus500

It's always neat seeing someone power through their backlog of miniatures and it's even nicer to see these older Warhammer miniatures getting a proper outing. If you don't like your Bretonnians then have no fear, some more Empire chaps are making it to the battlefield too.

Warhammer Fantasy Battles #2 by horus500

I was never able to get my hands on Pistoliers for my Empire army but they do look darn awesome. There are quite a few of them making their way onto the battlefield here and that means plenty of firepower for blasting away Beastmen and Chaos Warriors.

Is this making you want to crack out your old Warhammer miniatures so you can get some paint on them?
