Community Spotlight: Sneaky Space Marines, A Death High Hero & Mighty Gods
February 9, 2020 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking pieces this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Space Marines by dunham99
We start off this week with some Space Marines which have been painted up by dunham99. These folks are looking very cool, based on the new Primaris version of the Space Marines and painted up to look like they are serious about their business.
I really like the contrast that we get with this particular paint scheme, the camouflaged look of the khaki working very nicely against the pure white and gold of their shoulder pads. This gives you the impression that they are practical about combat and the colours that work when sneaking about but also proud of their Chapter's heritage.
Additionally, the work on the bases is very nice indeed and again offers the same contrast of deserts and scrub against the white snow. You can dive into the project above and explore more of what dunham99 has been working on within this project including some failures which make for good learning opportunities.
I am a big fan of these much more kitted out Space Marines, strapping all sorts of extra bits and pieces onto their armour so that they have what they need at any given moment. One of the cool things that dunham99 did for this project was also get some custom shoulder pad icons made.
These icons came from Pop Goes The Monkey and are a really nice little addition that helps build on the Chapter and gives them more individuality. No-one else is going to have icons like this! Again, you can see more of the work that went into these by heading on over to the project linked above.
Death High Miko by irishsteve
We're then calling in on irishsteve who has been showing off what he has been doing with the Kingdom Death range. This time around we're going to Death High and checking out this absolutely fantastic work on Miko.
Once again we're seeing some sterling work here from irishsteve who has managed to get a really solid paint job in the mix. I really love his shading work and the way that he manages to get the flesh of the model to look realistic too. The white of her top also serves as a great contrast to the deeper red and her facial details are top-notch!
It is always good diving in and checking out what irishsteve has been up to as there is usually something impressive to drool over. I would be very happy to see this pop up as part of a collection. Also, get a load of that custom base too! You get the sense that she is having to hold her own outside the school as something dangerous thunders towards her.
Make sure to head on over to irishsteve's project above to find out more about his work and peek at a few of his additional finished miniatures.
irishsteve also does a really nice job of presenting his miniatures, picking out the awesome details as you can see above. I wish I had the patience to build these little snapshots for my miniatures rather than just chucking everything straight on social media!
Mythic Battles Gods by joshtogo
Finally, we're getting a look at some work on two of the gods from Mythic Battles: Pantheon. We lead with the impressive Zeus who has been coming together for a while!
I went with a stone statue look for my gods from Mythic Battles but I reckon if I had give things a little bit more thought I would have certainly done something more in this style. I really love seeing the gods painted up like this, the deep bronze colour mashing up against the white of their robes. The work across the musculature is also top-notch and it gives things an almost graphic novel feel.
We also now have the model for Ares who has been painted up in, once again, a very cool style. I love the work that has gone into the shield and sword here and the red is a nice iconic colour for Ares too.
The bases still need a little bit of work here according to joshtogo but otherwise, I think these are some very nice looking gods for Mythic Battles: Pantheon. I am a big fan of cloaks and so seeing the deep red of that cloak there for Ares really does hit the right note!

WOW thank you! amazed to see my marines up here. It would be great to see more people post their failures as their projects progress, because nothing is perfect every time and it might just help someone else out in the future.
I’ll confess that I’m usually too wrapped up in trying to figure out what to do next that I forget to take a picture. I’ll see if I can change that as I’m definitely on board that we learn from mistakes..
congratulations folk’s great stunning work on your project’s.
Some really solid works here. The red on Death High Miko is pretty amazing.
Thanks for the button!
Pop Goes the Monkey has awesome stuff that I am sad you can only further customize from becoming a patron. Great way to make things stand out from the droves of other armored plastic soldiers.
Paint on everything overall, yep I need to keep at it to make my stuff pop like that. Good work all.
All very good entries but I just adore those Mythic Battles minis. Excellent work @joshtogo.
Thank you! I had forgotten how nice the sculpts were until I got this out recently for a game. It’s a new thing for me to work in this larger scale—it gives one rather more canvas.
incredible work … well done all
