Community Spotlight: Shadowy Rangers, SAGA Vikings & A Conquest Army
June 2, 2021 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Rangers Of Shadow Deep by demonsub
We're diving straight in with an awesome project from demonsub which takes us down into the darkness of Rangers Of Shadow Deep. With a crew of heroes assembled, demonsub ventured off into the different scenarios for Rangers Of Shadow Deep in this new project.
First off, the characters look great. I like that there is a good mix of different characters in here from a few providers. You've got a good mix of heroes here including a good selection coming from Otherworld Miniatures. I love their range and think it suits Rangers Of Shadow Deep very well.
What is particularly nice with this project though is what you see above. Not only is there some great painting here but demonsub has also put together battle reports so that you can dive in and follow along with their campaign!
So far two of the scenarios have been played from the start of the Rangers Of Shadow Deep campaign and they have been lovingly laid out on some cool battle maps. With the addition of a bit of 3D terrain the games have really come together and I love all the detail that demonsub has gone into.
Another element of this that I really liked was the fact that demonsub has taken some fun action shots from throughout the game too. As well as getting the layout sorted, they have also really gone in-depth and taken shots of everything, allowing us a window into their games.
As Rangers Of Shadow Deep can be a solo experience I think it's neat that you can use the projects to chart your story and progress. I am eagerly awaiting more and it is well worth checking out the project and dropping some thumbs up on it!
SAGA Vikings by nightrunner
Next up, we're looking at some excellent work on a Vikings army for SAGA by nightrunner. This army straddles the line between Fantasy and Historical which is ace as it means that as well as proper Viking warriors we've also got some ace monsters too.
Here you can see this mix in full effect. Not only do we have those grizzled looking warriors there but also a Viking mounted on the back of a snarling wolf and a seer who is getting ready to twist the weave of fate and damn his enemies to Hel.
Most recently we also got a look at some more of the Fantastical elements of the army. Here we have one of the Jotun and a pack of slavering werewolves.
The painting across all of these models is excellent and I have to tip my cap to nightrunner for doing such a sterling job. I love the clean lines, the depth, the basing and pretty much everything about the scheme they've gone for.
Whilst the most recent miniatures have come together to make something more Fantastical, previous entries have dealt with the rank and file. Even the bloomin' rank and file elements of this army have been painted really well.
This is a pretty special project which is packed with ideas and interesting ways that you might want to consider building your own force. I like that not only does it deal with the Historical but also the Fantastical and could be used across a myriad of games, not just SAGA and Age Of Magic.
Hundred Kingdoms Army by hazyboy75
Last but not least we have a little showcase from someone who did get to the end of their Path Of Conquest...for now. Here we have the final look at hazyboy75's Hundred Kingdoms army which is looking fantastic now it is all ranked up.
All of the miniatures that you see here have been finished to a high standard. The bigger miniatures are packed with style and I think hazyboy75 has gone a good job of bringing that out in the paint scheme across the board.
There are lots and lots of miniatures to drool over as part of this project. I also like that each character is presented as part of this showcase in that little vignette slot to the side of each unit. I think that is bloomin' ace and adds to the High Fantasy feel of this army from a rather twisted world.
If you'd like to see the army in more detail then you can hop on over to the project linked above and get a closer look. For me though, this army looks its best when you see it all arrayed on the tabletop.
Quite the challenge and it's neat to see that someone has managed to see it through to the end. If there are other projects which have completed their Path To Conquest then let me know in the comments down below and we'll have a peek at them! Maybe we'll see some battles being played out with this force soon as part of the same project?

Fantastic work, as always!
Great stuff this week. Love the Saga stuff and very clever to do both Fantasy and regular flavours with the same force.
Another three excellent entries!
