Community Spotlight: Pubs, Dark Demons & Devout Kill Teams
October 6, 2019 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Forums and Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking pieces this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Burrows & Badgers Pub by oathsworn (Jo)
The first project we're going to be looking at here comes from oathsworn but more specifically Jo. She has been working away on some awesome terrain for use in their game, Burrows & Badgers and the Pub Interior has finally been completed, and it's looking awesome.
The layout has been designed to match the Brock’s Rest Tavern from Sarissa Precision and came to life so that a tavern brawl could be played out on the tabletop as part of an upcoming scenario for the game. So, to that end, Jo went out and grabbed lots of blue foam and went to town on the terrain as you can see!
Pretty much everything in the tavern has been crafted out of blue foam apart from a few elements which got created using wood and resin. There is a spectacularly in-depth project to follow on the link above which takes you through the various stages that made up the creation of this tavern which seems like a superb place to have a drink and enjoy yourself before the fighting starts.
A lot of the little details have been great seeing come to life like the message board, dartboard and fireplace which seems like a place you'd most certainly want to sit down at and enjoy your beer. I might be a bit biased as many folks do know my love of Burrows & Badgers but I think you'd agree that this is some wonderfully creative work which shows how easy it is to turn blue foam into something very different!
Onigor Demon Lord by thebucklandbrewer
Next up we're leaving the sedate world of Burrows & Badgers behind and checking out thebucklandbrewer and the work done on this Onigor Demon Lord from AntiMatter Games for ShadowSea.
The thing I absolutely love about the models from AntiMatter Games is that they are entirely different from everything else out there in the miniature gaming world. This then leads to some stunning paint jobs across their miniatures as people are encouraged to go wild with the paint schemes to bring this world to life.
The purple skin here is great and it matches up well against the white hair, blue (and glowing) base and the weapon. As a whole, this is a brilliant looking model which showcases the work done by AntiMatter and also the wonderful painting skills of thebucklandbrewer too. I particularly like the facemask with those glowing green eyes peering down on his foes!
Ecclesiarchy Kill Team by elysium64
Last but not least we're heading to the grimdark future of Warhammer 40,000 and the work by elysium64 as he works on his Ecclesiarchy Kill Team. Three members have already been finished as you can see here...
The painting on Sister Superior Amalia Novena was what first caught my eye. I think the scheme used here, while traditional, works really well and the black armour has been contrasted well against the deep red of her robes. I think her expression has also been picked out really well too and it is a testament to not only elysium64's painting skills but also the sculpting we're seeing with this new range.
Things go to the next level with the other members of her troupe who are looking terrifyingly holy in all their accessories. Fire and the mighty mace of the priest are going to be enough to end the life of all manner of foes.
I can't wait to see how things are going to be changing up as the Kill Team comes together with more characters.

Great job by all the golden button winners.
@oathsworn Loving the setting of the pub and the lovely work that has gone into it and all the miniatures.
@thebucklandbrewer I really like the skin work you have done and especially like the base.
@elysium64 great job in bringing these to the level of vibrancy you have achieved.
Looking forward to seeing more lovely work from you all!
Cheers @noyjatat I had loads of fun with it and it’s great to play on. Now I’m looking at my pile of blue foam and planning what to build next 🙂
Great job everyone !
These are outstanding. I’ve had a painters’ block forever, this has stirred me to pick up a brush again.
*doffs cap to all*
great job guys.
Well done all!
Some pretty great painting skills shown off this month.
well done folks congratulation’s.
Great work all.
Amazing work from all the guys. Also I have to ask @thebucklandbrewer that mask looks like the one from crash bandicoot, is this intentional or do I play too many video games?
@lordsanes I had to google it to know what you meant. I don’t play any videogames… I only based my painting sheme on the concept art of the mini 😉
@everyone thanks a lot for the nice words and likes in the forum 🙂 This mini was a real pleasure to paint. My focus was totally on the skin here, tried a different way then I was used to and it turned out better than I had hoped for.
Thanks a lot @OTT for the button!!
