November 24, 2021 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Horus Heresy Primarchs by rickabod41
We start off this week with some work by rickabod41 that has been long in the making. rickabob41 has been working away on each of the Primarchs from The Horus Heresy collection by Forge World and I picked out some of my choice characters from the bunch.
Loads of them have come together over the past few months and it has been fun to see the finished product across an array of characters. For example, Lion El'Jonson here looks fantastic. I love the big green cloak and the way it matches well with the cream. The black armour is also clean and crisp with some great detail worked into the face. A solid paint job.
The same goes for Alpharius where I love that all of the detail has been picked out. You can see lots of time and attention has gone into making sure that all of the trim has been painted up nicely.
A fantastic miniature and one that I think must have been a joy to work on. I love all the scales across the Power Armour which, whilst they might have been a pain, have come together really well.
Lastly, I wanted to pick out the shimmering gold armour of Rogal Dorn here. A mighty character in a commanding stance.
I think the gold here looks spot on and I might have to nick this idea for my Adeptus Custodes when I get around to them. The deep red also compliments very nicely and I think the bright white hair is a solid way to draw the eye to the face. A great scenic base too!
Napoleonic French by nightrunner
Next up, we're going back into the depths of history. Here we have some work by nightrunner who has been working on some 1/72 Napoleonic French for De Bella Napoleonics and KISR Publications.
Each of these miniatures has come together over a fairly hefty array of months and the fruits of their labours is pretty fantastic. I think the colour choices are on point, the metallics look solid and it feels like it is one of those armies that would just pop on the tabletop.
I also like the detail that has gone into painting the banners. I also like that some of the units have that mixed look and feel. So, you've got the mounted officer riding into battle alongside the soldiers on foot. The Napoleonic era really is one that draws the eye with all of its colours.
There are loads and loads of miniatures in this project that are all painted to the same high standard. Once you see all of the miniatures ranked up like this, it feels complete. Imagine these marching together into battle across a blasted field.
Tyrants Of The Tor by danlee
Last but not least, something a little quirky. Here we have danlee who has been working away on the Tyrants Of The Tor. This is a weird collection of miniatures from Oakbound Studio. They do some weird and wonderful miniatures that's for sure.
I really like the colour choices here. They feel like the kind of cruel and twisted villains that you might have bumped into when watching a Saturday morning cartoon show for kids. These are definitely the creatures that plagued the dreams of 70s or 80s kids in my mind.
The sickly green works very well and it works nicely when sat alongside the yellow. I also like the muted colours throughout give them an almost drained look, as if they really are a bunch of evil fiends! It's almost like they remind me of some real-world terrors that plague our daily lives.
