Community Spotlight: Orc Captains, Infinity Inspiration & Sci-Fi Explorers
October 20, 2019 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Forums and Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking pieces this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Orc Captain by horati0nosebl0wer
Kicking things off for this week we're looking at the work of horati0nosebl0wer on this superb Orc Captain from Black Scorpion Miniatures for use in their Fantasy pirate game, Cutlass! This fellow is also a perfect way to get stuck into Orktober.
This fellow has been painted very nicely indeed and I love all of the detail that has gone into his coat, weapons and accessories. I was particularly drawn to the way the cutlass and pistol have been shaded and highlighted to match the rest of the muted tones across the whole model. The big characterful base also pushes things to the next level.
In a moment which no doubt hits all painters and hobbyists the back of the model in some ways looks better than the front! I suppose since this is the bit of the model you're going to be seeing most of the time it makes sense to make it just as detailed. I really like the way the coat has come out with its folds and such clearly represented. The paler skin for this Orc also makes him seem like an older Orc who has seen many years on the high seas.
Infinity Inspiration by soapdodger
Next up we're looking to the work by soapdodger who has been inspired to return to the world of Infinity. He has done so in style with a couple of new updates on his project which show off characters, mechs and more.
The first model is for Saladin as you can see above with armour painted exceptionally well in that mix of creamy and deep green. I think the forces of Haqqislam are certainly one of the more intriguing to work on for the world of Infinity. I also like that his imperious character and mood has been captured in his face with lots of attention paid to painting it up.
Things then step up to another level with this awesome paint job on the Seraphs here. The big TAGs from Infinity have probably been my favourite releases for the game and the work here on blending together the blues and whites has really turned out good.
Things then match up really well with the bright white elements like the loincloth and the deep red for the helmet which acts as a good focal point, drawing the eye to the mean look of this TAG.
I am still hoping they do a proper TAG-based game which is just about big mechs fighting each other. It went down really well at a Boot Camp a few years ago and it would be fun to see that replicated someday. Make sure to pop over to the Project linked above and make sure that you check out more of soapdodger's fantastic work.
Stargate Team by shingen
Finally, we're turning to a painting project which caught my eye because it was based on characters that I remember very fondly. Stargate SG1 was a show that I watched pretty much every weekend and so it's neat to see shingen bringing the Hasslefree take on the team to life.
The full squad of Not-SG1 characters look fantastic and they have been painted up really well. I really like the way that shigen has done the black garments they are wearing under their body armour as it stands out well. Mix that with the detail done on the faces and the cool bases which work as a nice frame for the models and you have a very characterful crew.
shingen does a lot of good work and has been tinkering around on a range of different characters from the likes of Hasslefree and Statuesque Miniatures who also do great characters. Also, a final note, that camoflague on Daniel's jacket looks ace!
Make sure to also go and check out the rest of the Hasslefree range as they have lots of cool characters from a range of different TV shows and movies you'll no doubt recognise.

@horati0nosebl0wer Congrats to yourself! WAAAAAAAAGH!
Thank you @horati0nosebl0wer and the team of OTT.
Congratulation to both other winners of the buttons @horati0nosebl0wer and @soapdodger.
@shingen Those are some beautiful colour transitions on your minis. Especially the blue! Pan-O TAG, yes? Im rusty with Infinity…
This is indeed Infinity TAG, Seraph of Military Orders, sub faction of PanOceania (major power) to be precise, however, the one above was beautifully painted by @soapdodger.
Anyway, thank you @mage that you even considered me capable of such superb job ;).
Apologies @shingen I mixed the two entries up.
Very nicely done there and well deserved winners

@soapdodger It is some fantastic work right there, congratulations!
