Oldhammer Ork Village by shinnentai

We start this week's Community Spotlight with some work by shinnentai who has been playing around with kitbashing terrain for use in some 2nd Edition Warhammer 40,000. This terrain has been inspired by classic Oldhammer Ork terrain of the period so it's a little more refined than the new Ork terrain you see bashed together!

Oldhammer Ork Terrain #1 by shinnentai

The terrain as part of this project features a whole bunch of different plastic kits and some good old-fashioned foamboard. There's Warlord and Dead Man's Hand terrain in here as well as other Renedra kits and even a bit of Fougou. All of it comes together to create quite a defensible little hovel.

The terrain then got a bit of texture on the walls to mimic the look of the buildings from old White Dwarf magazines. From there, some base colours went down to start blocking out the building and slowly but surely, the entire piece started to come to life.

As you can see from the interior of the finished building here, it's looking superb. The little bit of distressing on the metal elements works very nicely and the pale colour alongside the bright green grass screams Oldhammer.

The idea is that these buildings have been designed to be playable with plenty of space on the steps and the roof for battling. You've also got some space inside for a good ol' scrap. Another building is in the works for this project which will feature the chequered pattern that is so familiar to many an Ork whatever the era of wargaming. We can't wait to see how the rest of the set comes together.

Full Spectrum Dominance by deltex

Going from the old-school 28mm battles of the Sci-Fi future to the epic-scale 6mm clashes of Full Spectrum Dominance, deltex is diving into the game and showing off the painting of the different armies and also how to store the game and get it on the road.

Full Spectrum Dominance #1 by deltex

The aim of the project was to get the armies, terrain, accessories and more all ready for a convention, CitizenCon 2024. All of this had to be packed into a suitcase safely for travel and it certainly looks good from a quick and painless point of view! The two armies have turned out really nice thanks to a judicious application of Contrast paint. Both the Enlisted and the Tech are looking fantastic with bright poppy schemes.

Full Spectrum Dominance #2 by deltex

I like the spots of colour on the Enlisted which help to draw the eye. Also, the use of the textured paint (Agrellan Earth) is brilliant and it looks good on an epic scale. I make a lot of use of this on my 28mm miniatures but I think it works very well on these smaller 6mm miniatures.

I also mentioned packing away the whole shebang! It looks like it all fits into that nifty case.

Full Spectrum Dominance #3 by deltex

A good use of magnets to keep everything in place including the terrain and all of the accessories. I hope that deltex got to have lots of fun at their convention and maybe convinced a few more people to start playing Full Spectrum Dominance.

Epic Undead by firelock22

Last but not least, we're having a look at some more tiny miniatures for a bit of classic Fantasy wargaming. Using the Forest Dragon 3D prints, firelock22 has been painting up some excellent 10mm Undead for use in games of Dragon Rampant. Latching onto that classic Oldhammer undead vibe, firelock22 has been working on great army.

Tiny Undead #1 by firelock22

The miniatures have been ranked up and based for use in Dragon Rampant and the current project features finished painted miniatures for characters like the Necromancer above and also classic Skeletons. I think firelock22's work on these miniatures is spot on and the contrast paint has done wonders on these small miniatures. This reminds me that I should really get back to painting my own epic army of Dwarfs.

Tiny Undead #2 by firelock22

More and more characters and units have been added into the mix over the last few days and I think the army is coming together very nicely. With the speed which firelock22 has been painting these miniatures, I hope that we're going to be seeing a massive army on the tabletop soon battling against an opponent or two.

Tiny Undead #3 by firelock22

I know that Lloyd wouldn't agree on the whole bat-winged helms but I think these look great. The basing also works very nicely and gives off that vibe of classic Oldhammer-style mass battle armies clashing on expansive battlefields.
