Community Spotlight: Old & New Elves, Grimdark Warriors + Relicblade Heroes
November 4, 2020 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Elf Army by firelock22
firelock22 has successfully been doing something that I've had trouble with and that's building a mass battle army! With the project you see here, he has been delving into both classic Oldhammer collections and also the new plastic offerings by North Star for Oathmark to make an excellent looking Elf army.
The most recent entry into the project and the one that got me looking back at this project was the introduction of these awesome Dragon Princes. I love the look of these ancient Elves and the choice of colour scheme in general which seems different from most other Elf armies out there. Here the deep green contrasts really nicely with the brilliant white.
The same applies to the standard foot infantry with these Oathmark Elves who have been tinkered with and tweaked in order to bring them more in line with those old Warhammer Elves.
Again, the white which has been worked into the scheme really makes these stand out and it reminds me a lot of Biel Tan from the Eldar of Warhammer 40,000. The miniatures here have been designed so they can be used for a range of different wargames like Oathmark, Kings Of War, Dragon Rampant and of course they'd also work for The 9th Age.
You've also got this impressive-looking Elf Prince who has become a mash-up of the older Games Workshop miniature and a weapon from the Oathmark kit.
As a whole, this is an impressive army and whilst it has been going steady over the last few months it felt like a good time to go back and highlight this army. These classic Elves are always fun to see painted up and it's great to see how well they work alongside the new plastics for Oathmark. I also love how this army can be mixed and matched to suit all manner of different games.
Space Marine & Necron by wrusher
We're sticking with a little Warhammer but in the grimdark future with these two miniatures by wrusher. wrusher won a competition and then decided to paint up a Space Marine and Necron to show off some different looking schemes for these Sci-Fi soldiers.
The Space Marine in particular was very awesome indeed. I love the down and dirty look to the scheme and that contrast of the cream and the yellow across both halves of the armour. The addition of so much rust, blood and grime really help cement this figure as part of the brutal world of Warhammer 40,000. It's like this Space Marine got lost in the world of Fallout.
The same dirt and grime come into play here with the scheme for this Necron Warrior. This is another warrior from the far future who has clearly dragged themselves out of the ground recently.
Another nice little element of the scheme is the glow effect which has been built into the gun and the eyes. I think this looks cool and gives this ancient-looking machine a little bit of life. The basing is also pretty cool and something a bit different from the norm too. Overall, this is a fun way to paint miniatures and I think it would work well across an entire army!
Relicblade by chaosgorka
We are finishing off with another super looking Fantasy game called Relicblade. Here we have some more impressive work by chaosgorka who has been showing off miniatures from the Moldorf Expedition.
I am always impressed by the comic book style of the miniatures from chaosgorka and how they look like they leap off the screen. With these particular additions to the Relicblade collection, you've got some impressive non-metallic metal work here plus plenty of excellent highlighting which makes the bright sections pop. The glow effect from the runes on the floor also helps to give the model a series degree of menace.
The same goes for this fellow above. I love the way the bright colours contrast so nicely against the darker tones and it's all then lifted up by the pink from the base. There is also incredible attention to detail in the little bottle of goodness strapped around his waist too where you can see the contents sloshing around.
We finish off with this aberration which has spewed forth from a magical void. Again you've got a real sense of life and deadly purpose around the miniature.
The bright yellow eyes peering out from that mist of red and blue is a fascinating look and I think those big black teeth help complete the look. This is another great looking set of miniatures from chaosgorka which show off a set of impressive skills.
