Grot Tank by grayprimer

We start off this week's Community Spotlight with a look at a project that capped off Orktober. grayprimer created a fantastic diorama based around a big tank that has been suitably Orkified! It now plays host to a bunch of Grots who are eagerly getting ready to ride into battle.

Grot Tank #1 by grayprimer

The basis for this diorama came in the form of the Meng World War Toon Sherman Firefly with additional miniatures coming from the Warhammer 40,000 range and the Gretchin. The rest of the materials for bringing the scene to life came from Geek Gaming Scenics, Greenstuff World and Woodland Scenics. As you can see, it has come together rather nicely indeed!

Grot Tank #2 by grayprimer

The World War Toon Tank makes a lot of sense for the Gretchin that have been used here as the crew and the whole feel of the piece just works. I like that a lot of kitbashing and customisation has come in here to make that vehicle feel suitably Orky. It just goes to show that anything really can be an Ork vehicle if you put the time in.

All of the little details across the diorama are fantastic too. I like the crews and they have been chopped and changed in part to work with the overall feel of the piece. There is a good breakdown of how all of this came together on the project link and it's well worth having a peek at the board in full when you can.

I really like the way that the churned mud has been added behind the tank and I think that all of the colours pop, even the lovely flowers and foliage in the front of the piece. A well-crafted project to support Orktober.

Dystopian Wars Fleets by hairybrains

Next up, we're fittingly looking at some work by hairybrains who has been getting into the Dystopian Wars spirit. They have been working away on finishing off two fleets for use in the game. You can see the finished look for the Imperium and the Crown below!

Dystopian Wars Fleets #1 by hairybrains

Some work had already been done on this collection over the last while but recently, more effort went into finishing things off so that the fleets could be used for some BIG battles. This showcases the contents of the Ice Maiden boxed set, the Britannia Battlefleet Set and the Crown Support Squadron.

What I really like about the look of these miniatures is the way that they pop off the tabletop. You instantly get a sense of which faction these ships are for and it will make them very handy for gaming with on the tabletop. There are also a few little bits here and there that totally caught my eye.

I like that all of the additional bits and pieces have been fully magnetised allowing for the swapping out of different elements. I also really like the ice effect on the side of the Ice Maiden itself. You don't really realise just how big that truly is! Finally, the water effect on the bases of those planes is just phenomenal and I love the variation and textures that it gives off.

I am eager to see what gets finished off next!

Darth Vader Diorama by fleboy

Last but not least, we have a phenomenal bit of work from fleboy. They were so inspired by Rogue One that they just had to put together a diorama showcasing that final scene with Darth Vader. Those poor Rebels never stood a chance.

Darth Vader Diorama #1 by fleboy

The background that was used as the basis for this alongside the miniatures for Darth Vader and the Rebels all came from a 3D printer and the various provides of said files can be found on the project up above. Needless to say, this is very impressive and I love the way it gets across a sense of power and dread.

Darth Vader Diorama #2 by fleboy

You get a real sense of menace oozing off Darth Vader as he strides forward. I like that you've got the fallen Rebels around him and also those who are yet to be given their final judgement at the hands of Vader. The subtle glow coming off Darth Vader's lightsaber also works very nicely indeed.

You'll note that there are also a few errant blaster rounds that have scarred the walls of the corridor and a chopped-off hand! Vader really does like chopping off hands. The diorama looks brilliant and has got me wanting to watch that scene again now just to see Vader kicking ass. It's always nice to see people getting so passionately excited about something that they go above and beyond with the modelling!
