Community Spotlight: Fairy Tale Heroes, Kill Teams & Reaper Demons
August 18, 2021 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Fairy Tales by macgothmog
We start off with a bit of display painting from the wonderful brush of macgothmog. They have been working hard on some amazing miniatures from the Tale Revision series and beyond. These are some stunning sculpts which have been painted up really nicely.
The first of the miniatures is for Cinderella and shows off a twist on the familiar fairy tale version of the character. I love that she still has the furry animals alongside her and yet is more proactive in chasing her dreams. Knife at the ready!
We also have this wonderful paint job on Snow White. This is another cool twist on the classic Disney-style princess.
She comes with the apple in hand, ready to hunt down the witch that put her into a deep sleep! She is also hanging around with a gruff little Dwarf who is at the ready to defend her should things get nasty! Both of the miniatures above were sculpted by Simon Remis.
The last of the miniatures I wanted to showcase is probably my favourite. Here is the sculpt by Ivan Santurio for Cat In Boots.
I really like the smirk that macgothmog has managed to capture from the sculpt and I like all of the additional bits and pieces that have been added to the finished product. The cool "Wild West" style approach to the miniature is great, especially when you notice the two flintlocks at his side. A great paint job for a fun sculpt.
Kill Teams by moonunit
Next up, we're taking a peek at moonunit and the work they have done on Warhammer 40,000 and Kill Team. The first miniature I wanted to highlight was the Inquisitor which was painted up by moonunit.
I really like the style of painting that was used for the armour. That shimmering blue gives things a more eldritch quality and works nicely with the character. This is quite the rebellious Inquisitor and so it would make sense that her equipment looks more Xenos in style and colouring. It then works really well alongside the weathering that you see on the base.
Some of the more recent painting comes in the form of this excellent Kill Team and some cannon fodder which have been added to the project recently.
As you can see, there has been a bit of kitbashing going on here. I really love how these have turned out, especially the blue-haired lady at the front. The bearded chap in the armour with the heavy bolter is also a top-notch addition to the team, especially with all of that patterning and damage. Kudos on getting that pale skin looking so raw and nasty on the Ogryn too.
Narglauth by maledrakh
The last miniature we're going to be looking at is from maledrakh who has been working away on this impressive miniature from the Reaper Bones collection. This is the mighty Narglauth!
I was incredibly impressed by the painting on this miniature, especially when it comes to that blood-red skin. I think the variation on shading here is what sells it and it makes me think of a blood-drenched demon stalking through some alternative realm. The object source lighting around the sword and up the arm is also top notch.
I always like that the bases on these miniatures are such a nice contrast to the miniatures. They look natural and feel like they could suit practically any Fantasy setting. There is some real expertise in this paint job, especially when it comes to the face. Attention has been paid to where the eye needs to be drawn with the likes of that toothy maw and those eyes.
