Community Spotlight: Dungeon Saga, The Baron’s War & Tavern Terrain
November 10, 2021 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Dungeon Saga by wrusher
The first of the projects we're going to be looking at this week is from wrusher who has been finishing off some miniatures from their Dungeon Saga collection. I always like seeing board games and boxed games getting finished off and this is a really fun set of miniatures.
I was particularly drawn to how the object source lighting has been done here. I think it suits the demons really well and the glow effect that washes over their bodies really breaks up the intense red that you normally see on these demons.
You get the same look on these miniatures here, the flaming spheres casting a glow-up their arms and across their bodies.
I also really like the way the flagstone floor has come together and the fact that all of the bases feel like a portion of a larger whole. You get the sense that something is happening just out of reach.
As you can see, the miniatures as a whole are looking fantastic and this is a great start to a dip into Dungeon Saga whilst also being a solid way to get started in Kings Of War too.
A great looking set of bad guys that would be great for those seeking to do a bit of dungeon delving. The collection as a whole just pops and I think it looks fantastic when combined together like this.
The Barons' War by panzerkaput
Stepping away from the Fantasy, we also have some Historical as panzerkaput's The Barons' War collection has expanded even more. Here we have loads of additional characters from their project that are well suited for a Medieval clash.
I really like the choice of colours throughout this collection. I also like that in addition to the miniatures we're also getting a look at some bits and pieces that could be used for objective markers in your games as well. I love things like this which add a bit more life to your tabletops.
I particularly like these on-foot Knights that you can see in the image above. The bright, poppy colours all add to the pageantry of the period and allow you to easily pick out specific characters on the tabletop as well as looking good. I think it works really nicely with the murky, muddy bases too. Very English.
As you can see, the whole collection looks fantastic.
I love the way that these miniatures have been presented too. The backdrop of the woods and the painted scene really makes the miniatures pop and means that you're viewing the miniatures as they would appear when used in gameplay. I would love to do more of this with the miniatures that I've been painting.
Tavern Terrain by zebraoutrider
Finally, we take a look at some more Fantasy from the folks at zebraoutrider. This is from the Dunkeldorf collection and is absolutely packed full of character.
The terrain has been designed to be painted so that it would fit into a proper grimdark setting like the one from the Dunkeldorf collection. I think this looks like a grime-filled tavern where everything you drink and eat from is questionable.
Despite that, the terrain also looks like it would be incredibly warm and hearty to be around. You could imagine the smell of ale in the air and roasting meat. It seems like it would be a nice place to sit down and relax after a hard day out on the cobbles.
I love seeing terrain like this come to life. Much like with what we've talked about here earlier, this all helps to add a sense of place to the adventures we play out on the tabletop. It would be great to see more of these terrain pieces coming to life as part of this project, especially if we can get a barfight in the mix at some point!

Thank you so much for the Golden Button and your enthusiasm for my collection on the CoGs Sunday Weekender… I am very, very humbled. ? I will shout out to young Thomas who inspired this project and for me to paint and give him a set of minis for his D&D campaign and reduce my pile of shame. Thanks to him I got to 50 minis painted by September and now I’m onto the next 50 to hopefully paint by Xmas… we’ll see ? Many thanks again.
Soooo many Buttons!
