Community Spotlight: Draugr, Ork Pit Stops & Europe In Flames
October 27, 2021 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Undead Vikings by dugthefug1644
We start off with some miniatures from dugthefug1644 who has been painting up some of the models from the first Ragnarok Miniatures Kickstarter. Here we have some of the fearsome Draugr that have been summoned to fight once more during the Viking end times.
dugthefug is a prolific painter and loves a bit of SAGA so it was no surprise that these popped up as part of the project system. The different steps that it took to bring these to life have been documented over on the project but it has come together nicely. I like the earthy tones of their tunics and such and the little glimpses at what they looked like before their deaths.
The miniatures are then taken to that next level with all of the battle damage that has been worked into them, the blood, the rips and tears in their armour and more. I like the restraint when it came to adding things like verdigris to the miniatures and there is just enough blood here without going over the top.
I think the basing also works really well and it's neat seeing the added bits of dirt and earth on the shield for example. This chap has clearly just pushed himself out of the earth.
Ork Pit Stop by grayprimer
The next of the projects we're going to be looking at comes from grayprimer. They have done something fun for Orktober where they wanted to show off what the Orks do during their time away from battles. This is the culmination of three kits from TTCombat and a bit of boshing here and there. Just like a good Ork!
I think you'll agree that this piece of terrain is looking pretty darn awesome. There is loads and loads of detail worked into this piece from the weapon racks through to the fast food joint where they get some grub. This is an impressive terrain kit that would suit many Ork players. I think it would be good for an inter-clan clash.
All of the details shown off here give you a closer look at the piece but it looks even more impressive once you take in the entire terrain piece. I was particularly drawn to the awesome fast food shack that we talked about earlier.
I like that all of their food consists of Squig. I also think that the almost murky quality of the colour works in the favour of the Orks. You could imagine them daubing it all over and being very happy with it. Make sure to check out the video from grayprimer here...
Give the video a watch yourself and follow the steps through to completion. I think this is great and a nice alternative to just painting up some more Orks for Orktober. Well done!
Normans by piers
Last but not least we have some Historical from piers. We started with some fantastical Dark Age goodness and now we have some proper historical miniatures. Here we have some Normans from the talented piers.
Four of the miniatures have been painted up so far showing off some of the elite additions to the Norman army. As you will have worked out by now, piers is a darn good painted and I love all the detail worked into the different aspects of the miniatures. The shield work in particular is really nice.
It is neat to see a good mix of different infantry figures here too. You have the heavily armoured fellows with their full helms and then those with the classic style too. The spot colours there and about help draw the eye and break up the mass of metal that adorns them when it comes to the chainmail too. I can't wait to see more!

huzzah to the winners of the butt butt dings!
Nice work…
Terrific work everybody well done!
Fantastic detail in all paint jobs. These guys are so good they could become professional mini painters and that’s probably why I will always remain an amateur? Extra credit to @Piers for his photos as they take the minis to that absolutely professional looking status without a doubt. Jaw dropping quality… ???
