Community Spotlight: Cursed Cities, Mushroom Trees & Warmaster Titans
April 21, 2021 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Cursed City by tuffyears
The first miniatures we're looking at from this week include a wander down the streets of Ulfenkarn. tuffyears has already begun work on painting the miniatures from Cursed City and the speed and talent are impressive!
The first of the miniatures is for Radukar The Wolf (above). I think the colours here are spot on and I really like how the wolf cloak has turned out in particular. The whites and greys work really nicely together and it matches well with the deeper reds and greens.
Lots of painting work has gone into the myriad undead and hero miniatures from this set. For example, here we have Brutogg Corpse-Eater. This fellow is painted in a style that wouldn't look out of place in older rulebooks.
Again, the attention to detail is spot on and I really like the mix of different colours throughout the scheme. The metallics look great and I love the faded pink/red worked into the shoulder plate.
Last but not least, we also have some of the shambling Ulfenwatch who are wandering the streets of the Cursed City.
Again, the painting here is great, especially for such a short time spent with the product! The touch of ageing across the armour and weapons is spot on and I liked the ragged highlights on the leather for each miniature too. It's neat that we also have that symbol painted on the tattered flag. There is plenty more to check out as part of the project on the link above. Quick work tuffyears!
Mushroom Trees by phoenixman
Next up, we're heading to a Sci-Fi realm and the work of phoenixman. I love a good tree at the best of times but it's even more impressive when those trees are mushroom'd up!
These trees have been painted up so that they can be added to games of Stargrave. I really like the texture of the trees and how that has come out. Additionally, the big mushroom tops to the further reaches of the trees look really neat and work well in conjunction with the trunks. The little spots of bright blue then give things that Sci-Fi edge.
These are also absolutely massive trees as you can see. I love that they tower over regular miniatures as they give things an excellent sense of scale. The clumps of foliage that are clinging to the trees also add another dimension to them and make them feel more natural.
I think, alongside some big buildings and scatter terrain, these would be perfect when added into Stargrave and the like. I would happily battle my way through a strange alien forest made of mushrooms!
Warmaster Titan by brushstroke
The last miniature is a new one. brushstroke got early access to one of the Adeptus Titanicus Warmaster Titans. This is the result and wow, it's fantastic!
This miniature is immense as you can guess and it is one hell of a challenging paint. I think brushstroke has, as always, done a superb job on this miniature and I love how clean it all looks. The white is crisp, the purple matches well and the gold completes the look.
When you get a closer look at the miniature you start to see more of the amazing work on this miniature. All of the little details have been painted wonderfully including the glaring eyes, heated guns and the very bowels of the machine.
A masterfully painted miniature that really shows off the grandeur of the Adeptus Titanicus range. I particularly like those glowing plasma coils and the fact that the ends of the barrels have seen some use. This is quite the monument to pageantry and I reckon most people would be proud to have this in their collection!

Painting your Cursed City Boxset? That’s like setting fire to a million pounds! (ala the KLF)
I am sitting on mine until it quadruples in value!
But in all seriousness, nice work on the Orge guy @tuffyears.
on The Big Bang Theory, guest Leonard Nimoy as the voice of Spock doll said, is it not logical to play with your toys. I used to collect, etc , now i buy and build and play. If not, sell to someone else. That is the way.
Amazing, as always, chaps!
Thank you for the award guys 🙂
and well done to both @tuffyears and @phoenixman great work!
also, some might be interested to know I’ve made a paint guide video for this mini on my YouTube channel

And congratulations to yourself:)
Cheers, same to you brushstroke
congratulations to you too !
Three very different projects that each stand out in their own way. Beautiful jobs done!
My favourite has to be the titan though. It just looks like it really could be GIGANTIC. I imagine it firing up its arm guns, ready to grill its foes, and birds just falling out of the sky around it due to the energy fields around it.
Good job all, I like the shrooms and I havent even got started assembling my copy of cursed city yet. Loving the titan @brushstroke I saw that titan on warhammer community today.
