Community Spotlight: Brawling Heroes, Wild Gauls & More Star Wars!
February 10, 2021 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Super Fantasy Brawl by neesol
We start off this week's adventure into the realm of painting from you folks with neesol and their Super Fantasy Brawl heroes. These are already fantastic miniatures but these paint schemes have given them a real boost.
One of the awesome things about the miniatures from Super Fantasy Brawl is that each of them is unique. Each time you sit down to paint one of these you're going to be tackling something different. I absolutely love that the miniatures are also home to really poppy schemes which really build on the wow factor.
This means that we have some excellent looking miniatures here which focus in on classic Fantasy archetypes. I love the mage above but there are a lot of fascinating miniatures in this project which are all worth taking a peek at.
This is a really fun project to dive into which gives you a bunch of fascinating looking miniatures to drool over. I love that they are all home to a range of different techniques which could be useful for others who are attempting these miniatures or perhaps something else. It is well worth diving into this project in more detail and taking a peek at the rest of the heroes painted by neesol.
Clash Of Spears Gauls by aurorainbag
Next up, we're looking at the start of a Clash Of Spears project from aurorainbag who has been a staple of the community for a while! Here, she has been painting up an army of Gauls to use in this ancient wargame.
Each of the miniatures here is looking great and I love all the colours that have been introduced across the collection. I really like how the hair has come out in particular and the detail in the faces, especially with the work done to pick the eyes out!
There are even some less well-dressed gentlemen who are no less dangerous looking. I have to give kudos for all the work done on the trousers and tunics above including the tartan!
Another cool addition to this project is a run-through of a 650 point Clash Of Spears game showing off how it plays on the tabletop.
There is still a bit of work to do on the rest of the miniatures in this collection but I can already see that this is going to turn into a very impressive army once it's all done. With Gerry working on his army and aurorainbag doing the same, we just need Lloyd to finish off his own army!
Star Wars: Legion by ninjilly
The final selection of miniatures for this week is a look at a project by ninjilly. Here, they have been looking at miniatures in their collection and either painting them or tossing them aside. In this case, we got to see some work on some excellent Star Wars: Legion miniatures.
Here, we have an excellent look at Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Clone Wars set which has been painted up really nicely. I love the white of the armour and the off-white/cream robes. I especially like the additional point of detail with the symbol on the shoulder pad.
Another of the excellent miniatures from this collection is the indomitable General Grievous. Again, there is great work going into the armour of his droid body, the massive cloak and the eyes, oh the eyes!
There are some fun miniatures as a whole amongst this collection and if you're interested in seeing some well-painted Clones and Droids then you should dive in and explore this project.
I am doing everything in my power not to end up buying some Clone Wars troops. I really like the Clone army and the characters within it, especially the Jedi of course, but I think if I was going to dive into this era of Star Wars, I would certainly be playing as the clankers!

Really worthy golden button winners.
Clash! Aahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
It’s a shame you can’t put it in here 😀
Thanks guys, so much <3 This was a real surprise.
Honestly though, I feel like the odd kid out. Cause the other two projects are just incredibly amazing <3 Well deserved buttons for sure.
You feel odd kid out? I’ve got the Bolden Gutton for sand and spackle covered plastic trays 😉 And your paintjob is good.
stil no word yet on whether the celts are going to take a dettol dip
Insert high tension music “Duuuh Du Duuuuh Du Duuuuh Du” as a stopmotion movie shows the Celts moving closer and closer to a dettol bath
Congratulations to all on three fantastic projects.
Fantastic, as always, chaps!
I love the variety of projects that get highlighted here. Another great week with very worthy work.
