Community Spotlight: Blood Bowl, Necromunda Terrain & Konrad’s Bust
April 24, 2024 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Blood Bowl Teams by innes
We start off this week with innes who has been working on a fun selection of Blood Bowl teams with a mix of both commissions and more. We start off with a Savannah-themed team from the Galladur collection which works as a Lizardman replacement during your games.
I always like seeing people dive into Blood Bowl teams as they seem to have the most fun with them. You get a collection of characters that you can put a lot of time and attention into. The elephants (above) look great and I like the way their skin has been done as well as the ivory of their tusks. The green, gold and red then works nicely as a scheme.
The whole team is made up of various creatures from the savannah looking fantastic. They all have a lot of character to them and I think innes has done a sterling job on these. The special attention paid to the bases is also nice, especially with the little critters painted up to help break up that sandy/earthy colour.
Next up, we have an Inquisition team which works as a team of humans in the game of Blood Bowl. It's all change on the colour front with lots of black and purple to give off that papal vibe.
These miniatures came from Rakovendetta and certainly would stand out on the tabletop. I like all the details that have been picked out within the team across their armour. The bases also, one again, look great and help to enhance the team and nail that aesthetic. I would love to see what other teams innes works on this year!
Necromunda Terrain by corax.cox
Next up, we have corax.cox who has been diving into the Spring Clean Hobby Challenge 2024 and working on some Necromunda terrain that has been sitting untouched for a while. They are revisiting the terrain for use in a Necromund campaign and doing all sorts of tinkering to get across that grimdark look to the Underhive.
Here you can see how the terrain was looking at the start of the process. A lot of it was painted or had some weathering done to it but there were still plenty of bits that needed finishing. As well as the plastic terrain you'll also see other bits and bobs, odds and sods, that have been used to complete the look. There's even a cheeky Greggs in the background.
With that in mind, corax.cox has been breaking out various tools that are perfect for getting grim and dirty terrain ready for the tabletop. Winter Streaking Grime and Dirty Down Rust have been liberally used throughout the terrain layout to get that look of a horrible Underhive location where gangs are fighting endlessly against each other and the threat of disease.
There are some great examples of how the terrain has been elevated by the simple addition of those two "paints". Detail has also been added back into the equation here and there with some interesting floor patterns to break up all the metal and rust. Make sure to go and check out the project linked above for a closer look at that.
I also really like the piles of detritus that have been shoved into corners and against walls. It gives the terrain a lived-in feel as if someone took at least some time to walk through and try and clean up. I'd guess it's actually some unloved servitor doing all of that work!
Konrad Bust by rickabod41
Last but not least, we have some more work in the realm of Primarches from rickabod41. They have worked on painting up a variety of different characters but their latest project has been on bringing Konrad Curze to life in bust form. The project has recently been following the painting of the bust. The final result is ace!
Painting busts is very different from tackling a normal miniature as the larger surface areas mean that you need to put a lot more care and attention into bringing them to life. I really like that over the course of their Primarch-based journey, rickabod41 has been developing and enhancing their skills and the work here on Konrad is bloody brilliant.
I was immediately drawn to that midnight blue armour and how gorgeous it looks, especially with the armour trim which must have taken a while. Konrad's face has also been painted spectacularly well and there is a good breakdown of how that came to be over on the project if you're interested.
It's always nice to see someone try something big and different like a bust. I think a lot more Night Lords are going to be making it to the tabletop in the near future for this ever-expanding army but in the meantime, this bust seemed like a nice distraction.

Amazingly inspirational. Love the grittiness of the terrain and the colour choices for the BB teams.
All the bloody bowls! Huzzah! 8)
Got to say those Blood Bowl teams like extra special! Love the Inquisition team as well, that colour scheme is super moody, and I can them working nicely as an Imperial Nobility team (at least until we get Bretonnian’s back). I saw the Elephants on ETSY and was tempted to get them, but I have about 3 Blood Bowl teams sat base coated somewhere which I have never gotten to! (Note to self – Really need to get those Vampire’s painted for this years Full Beard Cup). Oh and thanks for the Golden Button! much appreciated for what has really… Read more »
